El Jimador Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Staunton

Much to our delight, this is not just another Mexican restaurant. To be honest that's what we thought when we first heard about it. The restaurant surprised us in many ways. First, the decor is beautiful, very tastefully done and is not tacky. And the interior is much larger than it appears from the outside. We were there in the afternoon and the atmosphere was very welcoming and I imagine the lights make it very romantic at night. Our server Medium was a delight and added her lovely personality to our dining experience. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced for the portions given. We ordered fried Chimicangos with chicken and vegetables and Tacos El Pastor. You can see from the pictures the beautiful plating and from the empty plates how good it was. The food is not your regular Mexican food normally found in other restaurants. This is authentic recipes and ingredients cooked to perfection. My sister & I went here August 6, 2023 for my birthday. We were both SO disappointed in the food here. Honestly, it was the worst food I’ve ever had. Although the restaurant was busy we did get seated in a timely manner. Our waitress was nice. The main problem was the food. My sister at first ordered a sprite, once she finished it she asked for a water. She received her water in the same glass her sprite was in, making the water taste like sprite. I ordered a steak fajita, the steak was lukewarm at best & even with peppers, onions, lettuce, sour cream & hot sauce my food was still extremely BLAND. My sister ordered a vegetarian quesadilla & said her food was basically tasteless as well. The food was cheap as it only costed not even 30 for both my sister & i but we left very upset. The food was most excellent! My wife had the Piña Loca, which was fantastic and came out sizzling! She also had a frozen lime margarita that was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed my Carnitas and Bloody Mary! My 2 girls also enjoyed their food, they even had some Mexican themed children's options to choose from, which unfortunately most restaurants only have a few basic items for children to pick from. They happily substituted beans instead of fries for my youngest. One thing to note for children that choose the steak and fries from the children's menu that like their food separated (my oldest is one), the steak and fries come mixed and covered with cheese, we will ask for it separated in the future.
