I've been regular Staunton Kroger shopper in Staunton since the mid 1980's...but I've reconsidered this. I had purchased Kroger brand popsicles, and after having the box for over 2-3 weeks found two of the twin packs were sealed, but empty. When I attempted to explain this to the customer service attendant, I was met with a distain attitude asking me where the other popsicles were. I reiterated I had the box for over two weeks and had eaten most of the others. Then I was accused of not bringing the box back immediately. This fool could not grasp the fact that this wasn't noticeable until the box was nearly empty. I was not asking for a full refund, just a 20% discount on another box. There are supposed to be 20 popsicles in the box, I was missing 4, that's 20%. This obviously was way beyond his ability to understand. So then he demanded that I show him a receipt...again it had been 2-3 weeks since I had purchased them. While I do keep receipts for large items...a box of popsicles doesn't fall into that category. And again, this was a KROGER product, something I could only get at a KROGER store. Plus to add, I had witnessed this man being very rude to the lady ahead of me, acting as if doing his job to help her was a chore beyond all endurance. When I asked speak to a manager, he threw up his hands, and yelled there is no one else you can talk to. This is the point where I left before saying something I might get arrested for. I went back several days later, saw another customer service attendant. He wasn't as rude, but still no resolution because I didn't have the receipt. Again...it was a KROGER product. I know it was only popsicles, but it became the principle of the matter. I ended taking the box and empty wrappers to the Kroger in Waynesboro and was given a full refund with no questions. And the employees got a kick out of invisible popsicles. My business with Kroger will now be at the Waynesboro store...it will be worth the drive. Staunton Kroger should send their employees to Waynesboro for customer...
Read moreDreadful little grocery store. I gave it two stars instead of one because the employees are nice and the produce is usually pretty good.
There's always abandoned carts left in the aisles by stockers that are hard to navigate around, one cart full of cardboard once sat in the middle of the frozen aisle for at least two days. ALWAYS check the expiration dates on things you purchase, we've had to return bread that was mostly mold, and a raw whole chicken that was FIVE DAYS expired.
Self checkout is a pain because there's a limit of 25 items that you are not informed of before using the self checkout, and there's a long holdup if you use the scanner gun because an employee has to come check your cart and put a sticker on every item that you didn't bag.
Lastly, my absolute silliest and pettiest complaint is the carts lack cupholders, so if I bring a drink I have to carry it and push the cart one handed, or balance it precariously in the baby seat 😖 the Chinese restaurant next to Kroger has boba, I want boba to soothe the pain of having to shop in this crappy store!
Planning on switching...
Read moreThe employees have mostly been very helpful which means a lot to me as I do have physical challenges. Often I'll shop after 9:30 pm when only the self check is available + I need assistance. Most of the time staff has been helpful. Last night Tori was on duty. Immediately she offered to check me out in the regular checkout lane without hesitation. This was the first time she was on self checkout duty when I checked out. In the past I was helped, but checkout took awhile longer because other customers also needed help. Tori checked me out in the lane + it took a fraction of the time and I didn't have to wait at all which helped alot. I thanked her + said I wished others would do it because it saved me time + it took less time for the employee. Tori said that staff was authorized to do this if needed.
I wish others would do it because it was helpful + took significantly less time for the staff. Tori went above and beyond and I hope that this will be noted...
