⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Truly Elevated Experience at The Frenchman
I cannot say enough good things about The Frenchman in Staunton. The location alone is stunning — tucked in the most charming spot with trains passing by in the background, it somehow feels both peaceful and energizing at the same time. I originally came here to get some work done and ended up having one of the most elevated café experiences I’ve had in a long while.
And a quick note: yes, you may see that they accept reservations, but I learned that it’s really for their upcoming evening dining service once that gets fully up and running — it is counter service currently but sincerely don’t let that deter you from stopping in during the day. Trust me, go.
The atmosphere is warm, beautifully designed, and genuinely inspiring — the kind of space that makes you want to stay for hours. And then the food arrived… and absolutely stole the show. Every bite was thoughtful, flavorful, and clearly made with care. It turned a simple work outing into something special.
Come here. Bring a friend. Sip some good wine. Enjoy the ambiance, watch the trains roll by, and savor some truly great food. The Frenchman is a gem, and I can’t wait...
Read moreThe space for the restaurant is very beautiful. However, staffing seems to be the big issue. Many tables still had food/dishes of previous diners for the duration of our visit, but that really cannot be blamed on the only two staff working the front. They were overwhelmed and their stress was palpable. To add to the inadequate front of house staffing, we were informed that there was only one person working the kitchen hence the delay in food orders. The crepe we ordered was on the thicker side, which wouldn’t be a problem but it was undercooked and tasted of raw flour. It would have been delicious if the sole kitchen staff had time and support, I am sure. I know there a growing pains and this place is only a month old, but I do hope the staffing issue addressed. My heart goes out the three staff members that were woefully ill-supported during the lunch rush...
Read moreWe popped in on a Saturday for a beverage before boarding the Virginia Scenic Railway and were so taken by the light, airy, charming space (bonus points for fun music too) that we decided to return for breakfast the next day. I like any place that will serve me a non-traditional breakfast item at 8:30 in the morning but when that item is the most delicious crab and blue cheese bisque, you have made a true fan! We followed that with the tomato & mozzarella crepe and the ham and gruyere quiche, both were light and savory. Orders are placed at the counter, but on both occasions staff were also out and about in the dining area and happy to chat with us about the restaurant and entertain questions. This is such a sweet addition to Staunton's food options, we look forward to returning to try the Ultimate Toast and...
