I recently took my nine-year-old son to our first escape room experience, and we definitely showed our newbie status! We chose the "Escape from the Subway" room because I grew up in New York, and I thought it would evoke some nostalgia. From the moment we arrived, our game master Beth was incredibly welcoming and helpful, which made entering a completely new environment much less intimidating. We ended up needing to ask for clues quite a bit, but now that we have a better understanding of the game, we're excited to return. I think the concept of escape rooms is fantastic; it really challenges you to think critically and work together as a team. I enjoyed it immensely! Beth also explained how the room's mechanics worked, including why it felt like the room was shaking—it turned out to be subwoofers underneath, which was a really cool touch! Overall, it was a great experience.

a first visit for 3 out of the 4 of us and the hour flew by! had loads of fun and discovery of 'thinking outside the box' with each other (would make for great team building). staff guidance was encouraging and not overbearing and the displays and puzzles were just the right level of challenge. we did the Mage's mystery and are planning to come back and try FBI next! Thanks CTC! :)

Had a great time trying to stop the run-away subway train! And with a little help from our clue master we were able to stop it! She kept us from spending too much time focusing on items not pertinent to our goal. She guided us without giving away answers... so we really did feel accomplished when we escaped! We drove about 4 hours (one way) to get there, and are heading back soon!!

Our experience started with the game master calling her other customers jerks in the pregame debriefing. During this time, she also told us that some locks didn’t work properly. She indicated that If we encountered locks that wouldn’t open, they would pause the time and open it for us. It seems a good business practice would be to replace these locks, instead of leaving customers wondering if the locks work properly or not. During the game itself, when we encountered locks that seemed to not work properly, the game master wouldn’t indicate if the lock didn’t work or if we didn’t have the right combinations. Replacing these locks would lead customers to feel more confident if they are on the right path or not. I wanted to note that we were not successful in completeing the room, and I’m sure the owner will respond that this review is because we lost, but that is not the case. We have tried dozens of escape rooms across Virginia at this point (in which we were unsuccessful in some rooms), and this is the only location where the game master wouldn’t walk you through the parts of the room you missed. I feel we are paying for an experience, and part of that experience is knowing how the room defeated you. It’s not like we are going to pay to do the room again just to see the last few obstacles we missed, and therefore we found this disappointing. Overall, a mediocre experience. Recommend trying escape rooms in Harrisonburg and Charlottesville. If you’re up for the drive, Gnome & Raven in Richmond is also a beautifully done escape room...

Was in the area to do a Mother’s day glassblowing session and spur of a moment booked an appointment when we drove past and noticed the place. Best decision ever! Shyanne was great! She walked us through the rules and was wonderful as offering nudges (you can opt out, but this was our first time, so we welcomed the help) that guided, but never spoiled anything. We finished with 3 minutes to spare and had an absolute blast. Also the minimum is only two people, which really helps open up the opportunities for people to go and pricing is really reasonable. The only downside is we’re from Connecticut and won’t be able to come again! Definitely recommend as a...
