Cotton Patch Cafe — Restaurant in Stephenville

The summary is this: The service was outstanding and not just from our server and the manager, the other servers appeared to be just as attentive, probably due to the manager being excellent leading by example and obviously a great trainer with good hiring practices/hiring excellent staff... which is why I'm giving this such a lengthy review. This location of Cotton Patch was outstanding. All of them are pretty good (more positive than negative for sure) but this was just outstanding all the way around. Service and food were far better than you would expect (or typically receive) at restaurants in this price range and higher.

We were greeted right at the door by both the host and manager. Immediately seated (weekend during dinner time). The server was very friendly and personable and seemed to genuinely enjoy her job. Not at all fake or just going through the motions like typically experience at restaurants in this price range. She took our drink orders and got them right away with rolls, and extra butter like we requested and went back to get fresh cornbread that was just coming out of the oven because she said the other cornbread had been sitting a while. (I told the waitress I was very thirsty and my kids asked for extra butter and my wife requested the cornbread because she knew I wanted it). Our waitress explained the specials, made a recommendation when I couldn't decide between the chicken fried steak or chicken fried chicken (I was concerned the CFS might be tough like it has been in the past at other locations). She said it was very good but she would ask the cook for an extra tender steak for me. The food was served timely, warm and exactly how we requested it (extra gravy, gravy on the side, double mac and cheese, etc...) the excellent service made our dining experience much better than usual at other locations- there manager checked on us twice, although our server was so attentive we had nothing to say but everything...

May 5, 2025 We ordered take-out Sunday lunch. The grilled chicken with squash casserole and the small chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. Food was excellent! Ordering online was easy. And pick-up was easy and quick! We love Cotton Patch take-out and eat in!!

Eat in 2 years ago: We like Cotton Patch! The menu choices are many and varied! I especially like the Cobb Salad. On a recent special occasion at lunch, all in our group had steak choices. I chose the small 6 oz. steak and had enough to take home for later. All steaks were done perfectly to each person's expectations! Since each person had a different order of "done-ness" we were impressed.

The baked potatoes were perfect. Various sides included asparagus, broccoli, fried apples, mashed potatoes, etc. Each person was likewise satisfied.

The basket of fresh bread rolls, cornbread muffins, and whipped butter are a hit. The grandchild especially like the cornbread  muffins!

Our desserts have included the Dr. Pepper chocolate cake, peach cobbler with ice cream, and cheesecake. We share and all desserts are well enjoyed!

The children's meals include macaroni and cheese, corn dog, and chicken strips, among other choices; all with very generous proportions! Again, enough to take home for later.

Our servers are always friendly and efficient! They are exceptional in attending to our needs. Often the manager stops to check on our meals.

Handicapped parking and entry into the building is easy and convenient. We are always greeted by the hosts and servers. What a happy group! One is always there to hold the door for assistance with wheelchair entry and exit. The restrooms are models for wheelchair handicapped accessibility!

The food is great, service is exceptional, wheelchair handicapped accessibility is easy and a model for other facilities! We are returning...

Came in to give this establishment one more chance but of course they failed! We were here 3 mos ago and had a very bad experience that I am posting that review as well. Tonight we came in around 8:15; I ordered once again Meatloaf also we learned the menu had been changed but some favorites were no longer on the menu. After ordering the waitress comes back and says we are out of meatloaf, offered to let me order something else. I told her this is our 3rd here and this is was ridiculous. I said I do not know what I want n not sure if I would even order anything then she picks up my menu n takes it. I guess that was my sign I was not eating here… I will not return because this place is an absolute disgrace to the people that choose to eat here. I will ever again….

Arrived on Monday evening at 6:30pm not overly busy/crowded. Two of our party ordered salads to learn they were out of lettuce. One decided to not eat because of dietary issues, our second guest whom was on a limited meal as well did choose an item. I ordered meatloaf with two sides. 45 minutes later, a gentleman comes out n says there is a problem, that they dropped the meatloaf on the floor and there was no more. He offered to give me something else but I refused because of the aggravation we had already been through. We decided at that point to just leave but we called our waitress over and tipped her. This was not her fault by no means n she was very apologetic n did not want it after she had seen what we had gone through. I completely blame the management for not properly being prepared.
