SAX Seafood and Steaks — Restaurant in Stone Harbor

Scared to go back management didn’t help ! Five star atmosphere, five star food, Zero (0) star service. I have been there quite a few times the food and the atmosphere is absolutely positively wonderful. I am assuming I caught one of those BAD ! male waiters. On a bad day… I totally understand. I get it sometimes people have a bad day. And they don’t feel like going to work, but they need to. I was there with a group of friends and my Pastor , and my attorney. We had a terrible expensive. ! Experience because of one rude male, waiter, who witty and rude underlining remarks every time he came back it was a total nightmare the food was great. The atmosphere was even better so I told the attorney and the Pastor I would like to take you guys back again I’m going to call management and simply ask for a female waitress because I don’t want to get anyone fired and have anyone lose their job that being said, I spoke to a lady and I said “I’m very embarrassed. Would you please let me speak to the manager of the restaurant “ she replied no you cannot speak to the manager of the Restaurant. He’s a little busy I said OK when can I call back? I need to speak to the manager she said well he doesn’t take any calls. Maybe I could help you I insisted on not telling her she was persuasive, and I said “ OK I had a very embarrassing situation. I would like to come in the restaurant I don’t wanna give anyone’s names, but would you please be so kind? I just want to have a female waitress. She said well shame on the situation. I’ll be glad to help let you speak to the manager. After one minute on the phone she picked up the phone and said hello and I said I’m waiting for the manager. She said well the manager said I should handle the phone call. I said OK what is your name? She said my name is Italia “I said beautiful name“ Miss Italian would you please be so kind I would love to come in tonight sit at the deck but I just want a female waitress we’re going to have a large party She said well no problem, but could you please tell me the name of the person that was the waiter. I told her Miss Italia I already told you I don’t wanna get anybody fired. I’m not giving you the name of the waiter. I just want to come in and I just need a female waitress , she insisted so much and embarrassed me so much that I hung up the phone because again I don’t want to get anyone fired or for them to lose their job. I understand it was a bad waiter on a bad day I’m sure he’s a very nice person, but I could not take the chance and spend $500 to take my Attorney and my Pasture, out for brunch/lunch and catch the exact same waiter . Anyway, I hope someone at the management reads this. I would love to come back, but I am simply scared of catching the crazy waiter. This place missed the mark entirely for our experience. We tried to make a reservation months out and thankfully called to confirm a few weeks prior to our visit since it seemed the reservation was never actually made. We made a note that we were coming in to celebrate a wedding - it was 6 of us total including the bride (me) and the groom. It was going to be a nice intimate dinner to celebrate. Nothing was said to us when we walked in about celebrating (even though I was in a wedding dress so clearly celebrating something) and then when we were seated, the waiter mentioned "oh I thought I saw a note or something about that". Not a huge deal if that is all that happened. But we ordered drinks, appetizers, and meals. Drinks were okay, soups came out cold and food was not cooked correctly. For this being an upscale restaurant off-season with the restaurant not being full, there is zero reason why food should be cooked incorrectly or things not be hot. We went back the next day to speak to the manager about our experience and basically were brushed off. There was no sincerity behind the non-apology and it seemed like because we were a small party outside of the events being held this past weekend, it didn't matter to them that we were not satisfied. Having sub-par food is already disappointing, but to then be dismissed and our disappointment not acknowledged in a professional manner makes it so much worse. We frequent the island pretty often as we have family there so it would have been nice to be able to come back and experience this restaurant in future years to celebrate other family milestones and anniversaries but safe to say I am very okay with never returning to this...

We’re staying at The Reeds at Shelter Haven in Stone Harbor this Thanksgiving week and after checking in we decided to have a late lunch at SAX, the hotel’s restaurant. Boy was that the BEST choice we could have made. We were greeted by server extraordinaire, Patrick, who went above and beyond to make our dining experience SO relaxing and enjoyable! He was genuine and personable and his service throughout our meal was exceptional! We will be back specifically because of Patrick. As for the food well that was exceptional as well. Our garden salad topped with a perfectly cooked center cut salmon filet was out of this world fresh and delicious. Our SAX burger was scrumptious and extra crispy fries (as requested) were prepared to perfection…burger rare and fries were hot and crunchy! Most restaurants over cook the burger and serve limp cold fries…not SAX. Our compliments again to the chef, another reason we will be returning often this week to SAX. Last but not least was manager, Mike, who came around, as most managers do, to check on our experience, but you could honestly tell he genuinely cared, so we gladly expressed to him everything we’ve stated above.
