The food was really good and our table waitress was great.
The reason for the one star was the appallingly rude customer service by the front end waitress and the cashier.
When we walked in, she was sitting on her phone and when I said a table for two she looked irritated that we were interrupting her phone time. She walked past us, grabbed two menus and without saying follow me walked to a table dropped the menus and walked back to the kitchen. It was so abruptly rude that it was honestly a bit funny. She came back about 15 seconds later and without stopping at the table did a drive-by drop off of loose silverware (our fantastic waitress fixed that issue when she came to the table). The most interesting part of our encounter was that she never spoke a word to us the entire time she was seating us, which considering her poor customer service skills may have been for the best. 1/10.
After our waitress dropped of the bill at the end of the meal she told us to have a great day and pay at the cashier. She was very good throughout the meal. 10/10.
Next up, the cashier. I walked up with the check and asked if they took cards, which she said yes and took the check and the card. Their checkout system did not include an option to tip, nor was I given a receipt or pen to write down a tip with. As I was given no way to tip (I, like many people, do not carry cash) there was no tip at the time the cashier ran the card. She then said, "oh so you guys just aren't going to tip then?" To which I replied, "sure, give me a reciept and I will". She then said that their system doesn't do that and I asked so how do you tip then? She said she'd just write in 6 dollars. I told her to do 5 and walked out. if your system is so old as to not give options for customers who pay with credit/debit cards an option to tip, that's on you to make clear tips need to be verbalized, not being passive-aggressive and assuming/accusing customers of not wanting to tip. That's on you, not the customer. 1/10.
I always try to go to Uncle Ben's when I am here on vacation but I think I'll find another establishment that enjoys their customers a little bit more, especially considering the Christmas in July theme they had going on. Having cute reindeer antler headbands doesn't mean you can treat customers so dismissively a rudely but maybe that's a new business model I...
Read moreUncle Bills has good food, and tasty options. The wait staff, however, needs some work.
Uncle Bills is an extremely popular place to eat in Stone Harbor. The food is tasty, and there are a number of different options, from omlets to pancakes to crepes.
The first time I went there, the service was simply horrible. The food took forever to get to the table, the wait staff was slow, bordering on rude, and there was peanut butter on my spoon. A lot of pb on my spoon. They also wouldnt split the which really upset me. I decided to give them a second chance. This review is the 2nd chance.
We were seated fairly quickly (party of 6), but we were not seated together. There was a large party of 15 there, so I understood not being seated together, but it put the kibosh on any conversation with the others in our party. Our waitress was efficient but not overly friendly. She took our order and the coffee and juice took quite a while to reach us. In fact, the coffee arrived mere moments before the food (2 omlets and an order of apple cinnamon pancakes). Refills on the drinks didn't happen. The food was tasty and hot, and the serving sizes were decent for the price.
I believe the main problem I have with Uncle Bill's is that the entire wait staff appears to be under the age of 21. It's not the age, necessarily, but perhaps more the inexperience. A little more hustle and a little more caring about the job would go a long way.
These points aside, I would give Uncle Bill's a try if you're ever in...
Read moreHave been going to different Uncle Bills for 30 plus years. Waitress spilled a pot of tea water at me should have been a warning. My pancakes were rubbery and my wife's eggs were overdone. When we told the server she said " I'll tell the cook". When I went to pay I spoke with the cashier and told her about our meal. She said " I've been here 2 1/2 years and no ones complained before". " She'll tell the cook". I said "you're still taking my $35 dollars" and she said nothing. I wasn't looking for a free meal but an offer for poor quality would have been professional. I'm not some one time vacation guest, I am a local who expects to get when I paid for. This Uncle Bills is off my list of good...
