A new restaurant in a stunning location. Amazing views of the Mystic River, beautiful setting in the lobby of the Delamar Hotel, great staff.
As a new restaurant in Mystic, I think La Plage has a lot of potential and I want it to become successful, so I’m going to give a high rating even though I feel there are areas for improvement regarding the food. What I’m about to say may come across as negative, but understand that I really want the restaurant to succeed so I think it’s important to have honest feedback. I went to the restaurant with a small group, so I got to taste several dishes.
First some positives: the spring faro risotto was delicious. I also enjoyed the caldeirada (seafood stew). The tuna carpaccio was good too; everything tasted fresh.
The negatives: The bread served before food arrived was disappointing. Looked and tasted like a store-bought dinner roll and came with plain olive oil. There is a lot of room for improvement here. Better bread; and a more interesting dip. Some sea salt or roasted red peppers? Someone at our table asked about mocktails. We were told they could make a virgin mojito, but it tasted off. It was extremely sour, as if the alcohol had been replaced by more lime juice. If they’re going to offer this drink, they should probably make sure it’s drinkable first. Someone at our table ordered the artichoke and chourico pizza. It was a huge disappointment. Barely tasted like pizza. It was more like a warm pita with sparse toppings. I saw a different pizza at another table, and it looked equally sad. If you’re going to keep pizza on the menu, then it needs a complete make-over. Ditch the whole-wheat crust. Put more toppings on the pizza and cook it at a higher temp so the crust gets crispy. Honestly though, I think you’re better off removing pizza from the menu entirely. It’s not doing you any favors and it clashes with the rest of the Spanish/seafood theme. For dessert, we ordered a sort of custard tart that came with a hot chocolate/espresso/milk beverage. The tart was delicious, but something went horribly wrong with the drink. It didn’t taste like chocolate or coffee and had this unpleasant bitter flavor. Was the milk bad? There is no way this is how it’s supposed to taste.
I’m hoping that you guys can take these comments to heart and improve the menu moving forward. Like I said, this place has tremendous potential and the staff was super nice. I really want to see this...

We recently had the pleasure of dining at La Plage oyster bar (in the new Delamar hotel) at Mystic Seaport. I can confidently say our experience exceeded every expectation. From the moment we walked in, the elegant ambiance struck the perfect balance between cozy and upscale, with a welcoming energy that made it feel like a neighborhood favorite (great oyster bar) - yet with the polish of a fine dining experience. The interior design of the new restaurant was so exquisite and our table overlooking the river on the patio was simply perfect.
The menu was thoughtfully crafted, showcasing fresh seafood ingredients, pasta, pizza and creative combinations of vegetarian choices. We tried the Scottish Salmon, and it was absolutely unforgettable—bursting with flavor, perfectly cooked, and beautifully presented. I had the strip steak with demi-cress, and was pleased that our server returned to ensure my steak was cooked to my liking. Every plate that came to our table was a work of art and a delight to eat. We also appreciated the presence of David, who was quietly moving about the restaurant advising the servers and asking patrons if everything was going well. I would clearly return again and hope they expand the menu to perhaps include a dish with mussels with sauce or perhaps some lamp chops!
What truly stood out, however, was the staff. Our server, Anna, was the consummate professional, informing us about the meal choices, answering a myriad of questions and tending to our needs throughout the evening. She and the staff who assisted her is what makes dining at La Plage such a special experience.
Whether you’re looking for a romantic dinner, a celebratory night out, or a fun-filled night with cocktails and oysters, La Plage is a great new choice in Mystic at the Seaport. We will absolutely be returning—and...
Read moreThe restaurant is beautifully built. The location is perfect, the bathrooms are incredible. Fantastic craftsmanship and high end finishes. The food is absolutely top notch, some of the best dishes I have had. This is a perfect fine dining experience.
The negatives (although I will still give 5 stars). They are new and have experienced some service hiccups, which is to be expected. For the most part they are doing a great job and I’m sure will improve. As somebody who fine dines 1-2 days per week I have become accustomed to A+ service, so I am being a bit critical. They could work on cleaning the tables throughout the duration of the meal removing crumbs / food / etc. nobody ever cleaned up some spilled olive oil. They could have replaced silverware after each course. They could have refolded or replaced our napkins after getting up to go to the restroom. The chef could have came out to ask us about the meal, or maybe a kitchen manager. Again, I am being overly critical based on my personal fine dining experiences around the world. If they are looking for honest advice to help improve their restaurant, these are the only things I have to suggest. Very minor things for most people, I completely understand.
I love French cuisine and everything about this place. I will be going back here again and again. I wish this restaurant the best of luck and success. Thanks for a great meal and dining...
