Typical roadside snack bar/dairy bar with the typical menu. Hot dogs, burgers, fries, soft serve ice cream, sodas with the addition of various seafood items like whole belly clams, calamari and scallops. The fryolator and grill are the cooking implements and it's staffed by teens on their first summer job. They cook to order so your food will be hot and fresh. They grounds are clean and well maintained, bushes are trimmed, no over-grown grass or weeds, picnic tables are clean and in good order with some out in the open air, most are underneath an open, roofed shelter in case of rain or if one just wishes to get out of the sun. The view is excellent as it's located right on the Mystic river. You can see the tall ships of the Mystic Maritime museum, the stately houses of the upper crust across the river on the opposite bank and the graveyard of the well-to-do just upriver. The well-off who have passed on get a nice view of the river as well, I guess.
Had a good experience in spite of the fact they got my order wrong. I wanted the scallops, got the clam strips instead. The young woman was very nice and personable and said it was no problem to have my meal replaced. They really picked the right person to man the order counter. I lived with the clam strips.
Don't expect gourmet. It's a fry and grill joint. Children will love the food, adults will appreciate the quiet atmosphere and sweet views of the Mystic river. Great place to unwind a touch and plot where one wants to go to next.
OH, and I found out that Red-winged Blackbirds DO like clam strips and are rather sleek little buggers up close. A bit of useless knowledge that you're now...
Read moreTook a over 50 minute drive to this place today. Total nightmare! Large sign on windows state per Governors orders no masks no services. As we were waiting for our order two young men approach reading the menu. One had a mask in his hand the other had no mask. The kid without the mask steps over to the order window and his friend tells him "You need a mask" his reply, was inaudible, The girl behind the order window proceeds to take his lengthy order which changed multiple times. Then his friend joins him not wearing the mask hanging from his hand and proceeds to place his order changing it multiple times like his friend. We moved to where the trays were while we waited for our number to be called and I could see inside the kitchen I caught a young girls attention (mask on but nose exposed) and asked why are order's being taken from people without masks? She questioned me and said they were just picking up I said No I was next to them while they were placing their order.. As we were walking to a table these two kids were laughing and trying to intimidate us during our stay it was beyond uncomfortable. My scallop roll (4 pieces) was burnt and it had no butter nor lemon, or ketchup for the fries. Don't know if this was intention because I inquired about the masks etc. Will never go back again. Counter top not wiped down no sanitizers outside, and credit card machine was not wiped down after use. I'm over 65 and disabled I did not need this verbal abuse. We would have gone back and request new orders etc, but the place was packed and I did not want to have to walk by these two...
Read moreThis place is disappointing. I went To get a lobster roll and they put lettuce and mayo on the toasted bun. I’ve never had mayo on a lobster roll. Yuck! I wanted 3 BLT sandwiches to go and they refused to accommodate saying they don’t make them. I was Picking up food to bring back to my hotel so I was forced to go elsewhere for those. It was hot and I was hangry. Not a good combo. I would have left and gone to get the BLTS first but too many people and a lot of traffic. I’ve never heard of a place that refuses to make a BLT! I mean They have all the ingredients and it's exceptionally easy to make. The girl told me they don’t make grilled cheese sandwiches either. And? I wasn't Ordering that lol. I wonder if the owner knows that the staff refuses to accommodate special requests. I get it that they don’t have those two sandwiches on the menu but if I owned a restaurant and some one put in a special request for something so simple to make I would honor it just for the business! Needless to say my lobster roll needed to be reheated when I got Back at the hotel because I had to stop and get the BLTS somewhere else. If there’s a next time here I will Have to say while ordering “no mayo or lettuce” on the lobster roll!!! Lots of butter and some melted butter. I mean who does that? At $35 a roll I was Highly, highly disappointed. Lesson learned: don’t order expensive food at an Ice cream stand LOL thats...
