My family has lived in Mystic for more than 20 years, but we had not tried Lis before. A few years ago, I called and left a message inquiring about a wedding cake, but my call was never returned.
More recently, someone suggested I try Lis, so I did (again). This time was more successful: I ordered a cake with an inscription on it. We went over the (very basic) inscription at least three times during the ordering process. $60+ for the cake.
When I picked up the cake, however, the inscription was incorrect, so I asked that it be corrected. (Correcting in this case involved adding only a couple of punctuation marks. ) She seemed utterly put out by the request. You would have thought I had asked the cake be redone on the spot. In 18k gold. I was shocked - and put off - by the contemptuous attitude. I stood aside and patiently waited the five minutes it took to correct the order and then left.
The cake itself was very good, but it was offset by the distain I was shown for having the temerity to ask that the cake please be what I ordered (and paid for!) - hence the lukewarm score.
It occurred to me that had someone at Lis apologized for the error and inconvenience, maybe the effect of the attitude could have been mitigated. As it was, I was never in any danger of receiving an apology. Or a "thank you" for...

When my daughter went to pick them up they had not been decorated and was told they did not have any dusty blue coloring. The attitude and carelessness of the person at the counter who spoke to my daughter as well as myself over the phone was extremely unprofessional and rude. I still am not sure why we were not contacted and given other decorative options. I mean really, you are a cake decorator, you couldn’t mix white and navy blue frosting and stick a flower or some swirls on a cupcake? I could have bought the same cupcakes at Walmart for 1/3 the price. Thanks for the $10 off you gave at our request. Your customer service and professionalism is sorely lacking. You cared so little about disappointing and pleasing a paying customer trying to support your local small business. Next time I will order from Sift, they have never disappointed...
Read moreLis is a place we usually RAVE about……. Unfortunately our experience on Sunday was not like usual. We arrived at noon. We were the only one’s there. Ordered 4 breakfast bagels and four coffees. I personally watched the woman at the window write our order down. Sadly, after paying cash AND leaving a tip we walked away with our food and drinks. When we went to eat it, we found there to be 2 bagel sandwiches which were made wrong (we were sure to notify them of the allergy) and two of the coffees which were also completely wrong. After spending $60+ I called to speak to Lis. I explained the situation and she could have cared less. Even after telling her we live over 2 hours away, she responded with, “Come see me in person and we can talk about it.” While Lis is a place we have frequented when we are in Mystic and a place I recommend to all, it seems like times and quality have changed and we will be looking for...
