We booked our stay here through Priceline. It was an average hotel, and I don't think I'd stay here again if I were in the area. First off, though, I must say that all the staff we encountered were excellent with customer service and extremely helpful and efficient. I commend them for their professionalism. That said, my issue was with the rooms in particular. We're a family of 5, and our room had 2 double beds and a pull-out couch. The pull-out was very uncomfortable, and I ended up putting the linens directly on the couch and sleeping on there; the mattress on the pull-out was thin and sagged, and you can feel pretty much every metal rod and spring underneath it. I found the pillows in the room also uncomfortable, but I think that's a personal preference; they were too full and soft, and my head would sink into them giving me neck cramps.
The layout of the room was not very well done. The bathroom had a tub and toilet with a very large door that requires you to shift way out of the way when opening and closing. When you're done using the bathroom, there is no sink in there, so you have to open the door of the bathroom in order to wash your hands; I found that unsanitary. The shower was good with great water pressure; however, the metal soap dish had not been cleaned from the previous occupants. Also, the lighting is not very strong, so it's difficult to see when trying to shave. The sink is right outside the bathroom, and while it's big, it's very awkwardly set back making it difficult for my kids to use. The only outlet in that area was right next to the sink, so it's impossible to have one person brushing their teeth while another uses the blow dryer. Little things like that became frustrating to deal with when you have 5 people in a room.
Because the room had the L-shaped couch, there was no room left for a dresser. The closet was difficult to use because the doorway to access much of it is small. The room did have a mini fridge, safe, iron/ironing board, blow dryer, and coffee maker. We only used the safe to store our valuables when out and about. We had asked that no one make up the room while we were there, but on the third day of our stay, someone had come in to make the beds and replace towels.
The breakfast was a bit awkward, too. While I appreciate the complimentary breakfast, the plates (styrofoam) were VERY small...smaller than dessert plates; and there were no trays on which to carry your breakfast, so be prepared to make multiple trips. They offered a wide variety of food; the oatmeal was inedible and seemed like it hadn't been cooked through. The other thing that was really awkward was that you had to eat in the lobby; there is a meeting room that serves as a spill-over for the lobby if there aren't enough tables (there weren't when we went the first morning), but I really wish there were a separate room for dining, or that the lobby had been separated more from the dining area. We didn't use the pool.
Overall, I found the room to be way more expensive than what we felt it was worth. I appreciated the staff and felt they worked hard to try to make the stay comfortable, but as far as the comfort and design of the rooms, I felt they...
Read moreWe decided to take a spring break family trip and chose a traditional hotel stay to avoid egregious cleaning fees for a private rental. My husband settled on the Hyatt. Overall, the value was good. We had a King bed that was reasonably comfortable, plus pull out sofa for our 6 year old that I did not lay on but it looked uncomfortable (which my family confirmed). The employees were very friendly, polite, and accommodating. My son loved the Continental Breakfast. I probably wouldn’t stay at a Hyatt again, however. If you’re looking for a quiet place to sleep and keep your belongings and don’t care about “frills,” this may be a great family-friendly budget option. So, why my feelings/low rating?
[ ] It felt low-budget. The furnishings just felt cheap. Our 3 night stay came out to around $400 with taxes, which I consider inexpensive. There’s few extras. The bathroom has built in bodywash/shampoo/conditioner. They provided 1 small bar soap, lotion, and 1 makeup wipe. No cottonballs/Q tips, etc. The first room smelled stale. The 2nd was better. [ ] The website photos are limited. When we arrived, the room felt cramped and the bathroom is split. The shower and toilet are in the rather cramped “bathroom,” while the mirror/sink/counter are right outside it. It doesn’t allow for any privacy to dress/undress. If someone wakes in the middle of the night to use the toilet, presumably they’re going to wake you when they use the sink since it’s in the room. [ ] Because the bathroom is so cramped, you have to move over to close the door, and there’s no shelf to put your things. There’s a hook on the back of the door that I used for my towel.
[ ] Continental Breakfasts are bad in general. Theirs is on par with what I expected. No better and no worse than anywhere else. I’m lactose intolerant and had dairy-free options, including oat milk for my coffee (though I traveled with my own milk). However, the fresh fruit seemed less than fresh, and I questioned the freshness of the hard boiled eggs. [ ] My main complaint is that our first room had ants. I found 3 the first day, and 2 more the next morning. Plus, the toilet was leaking. We spoke to the front desk and were moved right away. We had no issues with the 2nd room. However, the new room had no rubber shower mat.
Overall, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. We saved money and spent a limited amount of time in the room so it worked for a short trip. It’s centrally located to Mystic Aquarium and Village, Seaport, downtown Mystic, etc. and 95. You can in fact hear highway traffic faintly if you wake during the night. The hotel itself was fairly quiet except for the occasional slamming of room doors. I would be hard pressed to call this a...
Read moreWe've stayed here 4 times in the past 5 years, twice in the fall, once in the winter and just recently this summer (June 2022). The rooms we were assigned are usually clean and modern, though this most recent stay, the room appeared to be a bit worn and gum residue in the carpet. Still relatively good condition. Rooms have a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. This trip, a two night stay for 3 adults and 1 child, was $895 (occupancy tax of $58 per night included).
Daily rates are mostly affordable for a nice hotel. The hotel as a whole is clean and modern and staff are usually courteous and helpful. This time around, front desk staff was a bit less than courteous.
They used to offer a shuttle to the casinos, for a fee per person (a few years ago it was like $12 pp each way). Not sure if they still do. Hotel is about 20 minutes to Foxwoods. Walking distance to the aquarium and Mistick Village and nearby restaurants including The Steak Loft and the Mystic Diner. Mystic Seaport is less than 2 miles down the street. Located near the main highway (I-95) exit. A five to seven minute drive into downtown Mystic.
We first stayed here because the original hotel we booked was a dirty dive. We will likely return when visiting Mystic again in the future unless opting for maybe the Hilton. They also have a bar and a dining area in the lobby for their free continental breakfasts. Look forward to staying here again. We feel comfortable here. Outdoor heated pool is seasonal but stays open into October, weather permitting. We were able to use the pool this most recent stay. Clean pool with deep end depth of 5 feet.
They also offer meeting...
