I was working in Charlton, Massachusetts on a beautiful 2025 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Brass Monkey and I asked our wonderful customer where is a good local and non-chain place to eat. He contacted his daughter whom dines out frequently with her husband and she immediately recommended Sturbridge Porterhouse which was about 11 miles away. Sturbridge Porterhouse is a simple, upscale, casual and cozy steakhouse with great food, beverages, wines, beers, and alcoholic drinks. They have a simple menu that is not too busy and has something for everyone. You can have a delicious and fresh meal coupled with warm, friendly, and very attentive customer service. The establishment is a really popular place with the locals and it is definitely a "Refreshing Change from the Chains!" It can get very busy in there and so arrive early and you won't be disappointed!
Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by the host, Audrey. She was very sweet, friendly, pleasant, professional, and had a genuine smile. It was a Monday around 07:00 PM and I was immediately seated, provided with menus and my beverage order taken. Micah G. was my server and he smiled, welcomed me, and immediately introduced himself. I was fine with water, no ice, and four lemons. I explained to Micah that I was referred to the restaurant by a customer's daughter who raved about the Honey & Chili Chicken Wings, Mushrooms, Brussel Sprouts, Tomahawk, and steaks.
I indicated to Micah that I was hungry and wanted a fabulous meal but that I could not eat all of those menu items. More importantly, I had to travel 245 miles afterwards so I did not want to feel fatigued. He said that you have to get the Honey & Chili Chicken Wings and a steak. He recommended the Ribeye but I do not like that cut of steak so I selected the New York Strip Steak and Honey & Chili Chicken Wings.
For an appetizer, I ordered the Honey & Chili Chicken Wings. For my entree, I ordered the New York Strip Steak Medium Rare with Whipped Mashed Potatoes, and Green Beans. Shortly afterwards, Micah brought out my Honey & Chili Chicken Wings. The wings were exactly as described and absolutely delicious with a little kick! Micah brought out a hot and wet dinner napkin which was neatly curled as opposed to packaged 'Wet Naps' which were a nice touch. Just as I was cleaning up the delicious wings- Micah was bringing out my entree with perfect timing. Everything was absolutely delicious and my meal was prepared, portioned, cooked to perfection, and served hot! The steak was definitely aged meat and it melted in my mouth. Micah was very attentive, friendly, efficient, and happy to help! In short, the great food and awesome customer service made for an awesome dinning experience! I will definitely be returning here when we are in the Sturbridge, Massachusetts area to try some of their other appetizers, entrees, specials, and dessert. Kudos to Micah G., (Server), Audrey (Host), and Sophia...
Read moreOh my goodness to the max. If you went there when they first opened, go back. We noticed a menu that is a bit more friendly price wise, and though still no inexpensive night out this had to be the best meal we have enjoyed in years. I started with the small wedge salad that would bring shame to any wedge salad I’ve had in the past. Abundantly adorned with so many treats I couldn’t decided where to stick my fork. Smokey bacon bits, blue cheese crumbles, balsamic onions, lightly charred cherry tomatoes. This was a scrumptious meal in itself and mind you I had the small. We ordered the Porterhouse for 2 as our entree and we were not prepared that first bite. The flavor, the melt in your mouth texture and the absolutely perfect medium and medium rare (it consists of 2 steaks) that we had ordered. Served with 2 choices of sauce we chose the house sauce and the bourbon peppercorn that proved to be perfectly delicious and abundantly filled with fresh spicy peppercorns we chose to mix it in with the Homestyle mashed potatoes that accompanied the steaks because the steaks truly needed absolutely nothing in the way of enhancement, though they were served with delicious spicy pickled peppers, and marinated onions that were devoured as well. A large bowl of Garden fresh, perfect cooked green beans was far to good to ignore amongst this gastronomical delight and between the two of us we polished them off with our fingers. Lest I forget the centerpiece of the plate , a large split beef bone filled with warm, gooey marrow to butter the crispy slices of baguette that were also included. We were to full to stay for dessert but the dessert menu was too hard to ignore with so many unexpected and tempting choices. We put on the tea later in the evening and enjoyed the generous portion of mouthwatering Tiramisu with a and Cinnamon walnut Bread pudding sent home with its own container of Blueberry ice cream that we quickly popped in the freezer until our belly’s felt a little less full. Two containers of chocolate sauce to use as we chose were also included in our dessert boxes. I can not say enough about the food and one bite in was enough to make us realize that it was well worth pulling a little more out of the wallet. The entire meal, every single bite was fabulous and despite how busy she was our lovely smiling young waitress was attentive and friendly, leaving no room for anything but excellence in her waitressing service for dinner, drinks and take home. So it’s pretty obvious that I highly recommend Sturbridge Porterhouse. To treat a friend or loved one, to impress your out of town guests or to just enjoy some wonderfully delicious dining, I’m positive you will also be more...
Read moreWe had the best steak of our lives the first time we went to SP. It was a Thursday for lunch. We were on our way to spread our Mother's ashes in Warren. Went back 3 months later on a Friday for lunch; my Sister was treating us for our 50th anniversary. The second visit the 3 of us had the worst steak of our lives. Upon asking the waitress of who the cook was we learned Thursday is the only day the owner Ken does the grilling for lunch; hence the best steak. The rest of the week it is someone else. Ordered medium rare, we all got medium well. The outside of the steaks did not have a char, they were literal charcoal and inedible. The first bite we all made a face. We had to scrape the charcoal off. Even the fries were all little pieces, none over an inch long; NOTHING like we had the first time, we think he used the bottom of the bag. We told our waitress from the get go the steaks were horrible, and asked her who grilled them because we could not believe the same person grilled them from the first time. It was like we were at a completely different restaurant. That is when we learned it was not Ken the owner. She just said "I am so sorry". She even agreed they were not cooked per our request. Not once did she offer to take them back. When we were done, she said we should have asked her to have the cook grill new ones. While the waitress was ok in carrying our food to us, her not suggesting to take them back to the cook, was not doing her job for the customer. My sister would not send hers back, she thought the cook would spit on the new ones or something else gross. So we kept ours. Ken the owner is a great chef, the other guy is a horrible cook. We reached out to Ken and did not receive a reply. We thought we had found our new place for steak and told all of our friends it was the only place to go. Sadly we let them all know about our second visit and to not go, as the steaks are inconsistent in the way they are grilled. Oh and there was only one other table of 2 in the restaurant so it was not because it was busy. Do better Ken; my purpose of sending you a letter informing you of our experience, was not to get a refund, but to let you know you are only as good as your help. I know as a business owner myself, I would want to know. At the very least you could have reached out and offered us a complimentary appetizer and try Sturbridge...
