The Knuckle Saloon — Restaurant in Sturgis

I went in May ...not during the rally. It was still a great experience! Fun location with friendly, no-nonsense staff. There is (of course) a very long bar but there are also high top tables, standard tables for four, and longer tables for groups of eight. There are a number of pool tables brightly lit in the center of the large space. It is easy to imagine this entire room filled during the Sturgis rally given how many people were here to visit on a random weekend in May. Oh, the food. It is almost a second thought for everyone going there, even if they say they are going because they are hungry. The food is decent. It is nothing to go out of your way for but it is many steps above any fast food. Think mom & pop diner food in a very small town where they are afraid of spices. (This is where they lost a star. It would have been two but the staff was so willing to bring any and every condiment that we could make it great to our own taste.) Next to the main bar room there is outdoor bar space that is used only during the month of the rally. Then next to that is the gift shop. What I particularly liked was that they sold the cups they used to serve soft drinks.and iced tea in, with their logo on them. They did have all the typical wares too: magnets, hats, T shirts. Comfort Food, Chapter 01.. Marinated Beef Tips with sauteed onions and mushrooms. Served up with piping hot fries and brown gray! Kelly guided me through my first visit and food selection.. she knew what I needed! My first several bites rendered me speechless (my mouth was full of mmmm's). It was good, but for me, not perfect. After the beef tips started to cool a bit, it became apparent that the dish was way too salty; at least for me. Not a deal breaker, because if, no.. when I go back; I would request no added salt, assuming that the cook adds salt during the cooking process. But, as Kelly suggested, upon my return, it would be best to try different menu items. Thanks Kelly.

EDIT: 7/3/2023 ...Sorry, but after enjoying several trips to Knuckles, and several great meals.. the train went off the Tracks ! stopped in a few days ago and ordered the Steak Tips (unbreaded). Compared to what I had previously experienced, these were awful.

First, the serving size was quite a bit smaller, there were no mushrooms, the flavor profile was different, and they were served luke warm! I did mention to the bartender that they were not good as usual, but did not really complain about it (maybe I should have since the lunch will be over $20 with the tip.)

Ordered 2 appetizers nachos and Gouda cheese bites Nachos: white tortilla chips with chopper up burger patty used for the meat,shredded cheese a white queso cheese sauce with olives, jalapeno,and a side of salsa and a small pouch of sour cream now I understand it's really time but those nachos need to be improved big time substitute the hamburger patty with taco meat and instead of shredded cheddar cheese use a nacho cheese sauce and the queso sauce then top it with the onions jalapenos salsa and sour cream and the nachos would have more of a nacho taste. Gouda cheese bites: well the menu States them as a cheese bite which one would assume it's either chunks of hard cheese that have been cut up and battered and breaded or cheese curds that have been battered and deep fried instead what we ended up getting was a gouda macaroni and cheese bites they were unfortunately deep-fried a little bit too long and were extremely hard and that is an easy fix and understandable with how busy they are but the actual bites themselves should have been cheese and not a macaroni and cheese as it stated on the menu cheese bites Service: the lady who waited on us did an amazing job she was on top of her game and I commend her with doing her job while she was doing other work so service is good Atmosphere: well the atmosphere was just what it should be during the rally perfect...
