Pho 79 — Restaurant in Suffolk

I've ordered take out from here multiple times and the food is usually pretty good. However, the WAIT is ridiculous! This current take out order, I placed at 7:20pm and it is already 8pm and I have YET to receive my food. I mentioned it to someone and they said, "oh it's done" and then she turned around and said 5 more minutes. Meanwhile, my Boba teas have not been made yet so now my food is done but my Boba teas aren't. Then come to find out they're also out of Boba now, which was one of my main reasons for coming here. Although the food is good, the amount of time I have to sit here and wait for a called in order that was quoted 15 to 20 mins to be done, IS NOT WORTH THE WAIT!

At this point, I will no longer be coming to this establishment due to their lack of customer service as they offered nothing but an apology as they handed me only half of my food. They need to get their timing under control.

Oh and mind you, I ordered TWO Boba teas and since they only had less than enough boba for ONE, they split it between two cups and expected me to be satisfied with having had to pay full price for both to get less than 1 cups worth of Boba. They handed me my drinks and food and told me to have a goodnight. They did apologize again for the wait but at this point that isn't enough. So I left and then realized why am I paging 13.02 for TWO Boba teas when you didn't even have enough Boba for the one?!? So I went back in and the managers weren't even there, they only have shift leads. And they asked if I wanted a refund and I said yes.

My point is, if you've made it a point to apologize a million times for the wait and then continued to talk to each other about how long I was waiting while other orders were being picked up the second they walked into the restaurant, why do I have to tell you thia is poor customer service for you to do something about the fact that I had to wait an HOUR for food that should have taken the quoted 15 to 20 mins to make. That is 3X as long as your quote time!

COVID-19 has wrought the worst among our society but restaurants are managing to serve their customers and Pho 79 is no exception. This was my first visit to this humble location and if any reader has seen my reviews before then you know that I like things to be simple.

Pho 79 delivered simplicity with the ease of taking a seat to which is arranged in a socially distant manner and like anywhere else offers a QR code menu where if you use a Google Lens camera setting, it will download the menu to your phone.

Myself and younger brother were greeted by someone wearing a mask but had a smile behind it as they offered us a paper menu seeing as how our phones were having difficulty displaying the menu (this was before I had the idea to switch from a QR lens to my Google Lens).

We ordered fairly quickly and the food arrived not long after (an appetizer and two ramen soups). We were checked on twice during our stay which was maybe a total of 30 mins but it was obvious that it wasn't our first time eating this style of food. Our drinks were waters and I only needed a refill once.

I do rate this 5 out of 5 because the staff was friendly, the interior was very clean, the style is cozy and modern, and I felt welcomed and not rushed or harassed by our server. A two time check in, on a table of two, in a not so crowded place, and in a maybe 30 min window was perfect.

The only thing that could have been different, is if the server did make some suggestions and also highlighted the features of their board at the restaurant entrance. I won't deduct a star from that.

I did not grade along taste or how the food was cooked because well, it's ramen... But the food was very good and the noodles had an expert texture - not overly cooked or sitting too...

I try and not leave bad reviews of places, unless I feel the absolute need. This is one of those times. First of all, I must say the food here is really wonderful. My problem here is never with the food. But for the past THREE times I've been to this restaurant THE SERVICE HAS BEEN HORRIBLE. The server did come to the table to take our order, and bring drinks, and NEVER came back. The other times when my family has eaten here, the check was always brought to us. This time? No check. But that's okay. There's a sign there visible to all that says "Pay Here". Fine. While I walk up to the bar to pay for the check, while standing behind a woman who I visually saw NO ONE ever walk up to her table, (there were maybe 4 tables filled in the entire restaurant; It was NOT busy), I see our server in the kitchen, leaning against some racks checking his cell phone. I don't know what kind of serving "rules" are at this place, but I almost find it offensive to have "Tip __" on the check. Taco Bell or McDonald's might bring out your food to you as a courtesy, and certainly don't ask for tips. So when I paid for my family's food, I did not tip a cent. If the servers are not working there for tips, then I feel my decision was fair, and you should probably remove "Tip _" off of the check as an option. Again, this is the THIRD time we've experienced this type of service (or lack thereof) like this from this establishment. I think it's time to find another place to eat pho.
