I really dislike leaving bad reviews but I had to because this restaurant owner (Adeline) needs to be exposed. After wanting African food I came across Amala joint on Google read the reviews and decided to give this place a try which was a big mistake the reviews must be fake! I drove from across town 45-50 min to get there. First red flag 🚩 no one was there the restaurant was completely empty the employee was sitting at one of the tables watching tv with her young daughter. She didn’t greet me which was the second red flag 🚩 I said hello politely and proceed to walk ahead and look on the menu that’s placed towards the front on the wall I ordered my food and left. Opened the bag no food cultery or napkins had to go back in and get eating utensils third red flag 🚩

Anyway once I started to eat the food it taste a bit old but I try to ignore it thinking it was just in my head and kept eating it towards the end of the night my stomach went to hurting and I got heart burn real bad. I ordered the Jollof rice and fish efo riro and pounded yam and plantains. I only ate some of the Jollof rice and all the fish and one plaintain so bc of my upset stomach i never had a chance to eat the other food. I contacted the store and was told to contact the owner Adeline I called her she immediately got defensive and told me to just send her my receipt of the order once I did she said she’ll be in contact with me but never did get back to me after 24 hours I reached back out to her via text she responded she wld get back to me after her church service but again she never did all these red flags 🚩 I lost count by now so once I reached out to her again via text and told her I wouldn’t want to go through my bank to get my refund but I would if I had to because at this point it’s obvious she’s avoiding me she finally called my phone and again in defense mode wouldn’t let me talk talking over me etc once everything was said from her she ended the conversation with didn’t you say you would contact your bank to get your money just go through your bank I’m sorry I can not give you your money back.

Please be very careful at this place the reviews are fake and that’s why this place is empty right now because of the poor service and quality of food that’s being served. If I could give 0 stars I would. You don’t treat your customer in this manner all because of a dollar bill. You will never prosper this way!!! Your establishment will eventually be closed because of how you run your business!! You tried to make it hard for me to get my money back but I will get my money back...

I would not recommend based solely on service. I was excited to try the food but unfortunately the food I paid for was never given to me.

First, I walked into to a fairly empty restaurant. There were 2 women chatting in the dining area and they told me I should ring the bell to get service since there wasn’t a single employee in the front. Now this was a red flag but I understand that it’s a small business so I did not let it deter me. What made it worst however is that someone yelled rudely, “I am coming!!”.

A solid 8 minutes elapsed before the woman came out toting food for the women in the dinning hall. She barely even acknowledged me standing there. Finally she gave me a second of attention where I told her I ordered online. She rudely said “online? No. Only Uber. We don’t take online orders.” I went through my email trying to find out if I was at the wrong location or something. But nope, I was correct. I ordered on their official website and received a confirmation email that the payment was received.

I continued to stand there while she spoke with the other women in the dinning hall and allowed one of them to place another order. Before she walked back into the kitchen to fix the woman’s second order she spat, “The online website is not right pricing, we only use Uber prices. You need to call and get your money back.” Basically like oh well, I know what my website says but it’s not my problem.

I’m unsure of whether she doesn’t accept online orders or if she doesn’t want to honor it because she has not increased the websites prices. Either way it isn’t my fault and it’s false advertising to have an online ordering feature on the website that you do not accept.

I was forced to contact Menufy to request a refund. They told me they needed to contact the restaurant to approve it. Over an hour went by of Menufy trying to contact the restaurant that allegedly kept hanging up the call. I finally received a refund from Menufy however I am unsure if the woman actually approved it.

All in all, I would not recommend coming to this establishment. It really sucks trying to support small, ethnic businesses and being...

Ordered through Uber eats at 4pm. Estimated delivery time was 5:55. I was ok with waiting because I was stuck at home and craving Nigerian food. I did not receive my food until after 8pm. My initial driver waited there for a good while, I even increased his tip when I noticed how long he waited. I called when I noticed he cancelled the pickup and wanted to know why the delay. I was spoken to like I was from a different planet and the person on the phone and person in the background (appearing to be complaining that I was calling) were very unprofessional. Quickly blamed the driver and gave no explanation as to why my food was not ready after over two hours. Making it seem like my driver left and he was the reason my food was taking so long. This was a lie because he arrived before the estimated time and waited a long time. I was abruptly hung up on just for asking what’s taking so long. Since it was too late to cancel, I kept the order. Food was cold (not shocked) and the food quality was poor. I did enjoy the white rice and plantains though. The only reason I didn’t order with a competitor was because they were sold out of okro soup. I wish I had just ordered something different and give the other business my hard earned money. During a pandemic when restaurants are closing left and right, it’s not a time to treat your customers like they...

My wife and I love food but west African and Nigerian food is something we don’t have in the Bay Area nor all the major cities we’ve explored. When planning our trip to Houston we knew we wanted to get some authentic West African and Nigerian food. Amala Joint did not disappoint. We got the okra stew w/ pounded yam and the jollof rice with beef. Let me first off by saying the food is flavorful and delicious. If you’re not adventurous and/or can’t handle spice this place may not be for you. Jollof rice — rice is so delicious, aromatic, fragrant and perfect chewy / al dente texture. It reminds me of jambalaya in many ways but more aroma. Beef is fried and goes perfectly with it. I wish there was 1 more piece of beef and less rice but otherwise delicious none the less. Okra stew — comes with mixed meats (not sure on which specifics) but dried salted fish, beef, and pork or beef intestine were some of the ones I was able to identify. Super flavorful, spicy (in a good way). It is a little messy to eat with hands due to the slimy nature of okra. Meant to be eaten with your hands but if you don’t want to messy I recommend using your spoon to flatten the pounded yam and add to the soup bite by bite. 5/5 for sure!

Amala Joint – A True Taste of Naija 🇳🇬 If you’ve been craving authentic Nigerian flavors that hit your soul, Amala Joint is the spot. From the moment I walked in, the aroma of rich spices and slow-cooked stews told me I was in for something special. I ordered the amala with gbegiri, ewedu, and assorted meat, and let me just say: PERFECTION. The amala was soft, warm, and just the right amount of stretchy. The gbegiri was silky, the ewedu had that traditional slippery texture that hugged the amala beautifully, and the stew? Whew deep, peppery, and packed with flavor. Each bite was a throwback to home-cooked meals in Nigeria. The assorted meat was generous and well-seasoned tender cow foot, spicy tripe, juicy beef everything cooked to perfection and soaked in rich, red stew. They don’t skimp on flavor or portion size. Customer service was friendly, and the atmosphere felt like a neighborhood kitchen with Naija pride. Whether you’re Nigerian or just love African cuisine, Amala Joint will transport your taste buds straight to Lagos. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommend for lovers of bold, traditional West African flavors. Don’t walk RUN for that amala!

The restaurant is located in a little shopping plaza which looks a little sketch at first glance, but I’m giving 5 stars because Amala’s joint was the perfect experience. I’m a fan of Nigerian food and have eaten at about 6 different Naija spots in the Houston area, but their service was by far the best. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how clean and tidy everything was. Sanitizer and hand soap at every table and they bring a bowl of water with your meal so you can clean your hands. Also, the dining room didn’t smell heavily like food, which was nice since I had somewhere to be afterward. I had Efo with pounded yam and tilapia. Y’all!!! It was soooo good. Perfect level of spice for those that can’t handle too much heat, but enough for those of us that really enjoy the kick of peppers. The tilapia was perfectly cooked. A little crisp on the outside, soft & flaky fish on the inside. The ladies that took care of us were absolutely sweet. I don’t usually rate on Google but I just had to rate on both Yelp and here!!! If you’re still reading stop and go to Amala’s Joint for some bomb food!!
