Finally, good Halal Chinese food in Sugar Land. The owners previously owned Jade Ly. However, this menu is totally different. Because the chef is Vietnamese Chinese he’s been wanting to make pho for a long time. I tried it and can say that it’s worth the wait. The broth is a little on the sweeter side but it goes well with the flavors that are in there. Everything tastes natural unlike some places where pho bouillon is used and gives an artificial aftertaste. The meat are tender and even the noodles have the right texture of chewiness to it. It’s easy to eat and drink this and takes no time finishing. They have a happy hour that’s from 4-6PM where you order one pho and get the 2nd for 50% off. This is an awesome deal since inflation has pushed all pho prices up by almost 100%. Because the deal was so tempting I ordered the Bun Bo Hue. This is a shrimp paste style and it was good. This isn’t a dish I normally order because you have to develop a taste for it because of the strong flavors in the broth. If you like Bun Bo Hue then definitely try it. Wanting to try other dishes we ordered the Mongolian Beef. This will be a regular dish for me. The meat is silky and super tender. The sauce is sweet, spicy and umami. Really delicious. The other dish was the Spicy Korean chicken. There’s really nothing Korean in it except for the name. There’s a funny story to it so ask the owner. Usually I don’t order chicken because it tends to be overcooked and dry but this wasn’t the case. It’s also tender. Sauce was unique and delicious. Definitely something I’d order again. Overall, I’d come back and try other dishes here. Update: I came back and tried more dishes. Sesame chicken. It comes with a sweet sauce that was tasty and the texture was good. It may be a little sweet from some but when eaten with rice it balances out. Cumin lamb. It was okay. I wished it had more cumin but not bad. Jalapeño chicken. It was okay. It’s just saucy with sliced jalapeños. Beef with flat rice noodles. Needed more wok hei(charring) and sauce. Slightly bland for me. Salt and pepper fish. Could use more salt. Otherwise not bad. Kung Pao chicken. This was just okay.
My favorites are still Spicy Korean chicken, Mongolian beef,...
Read moreJust came back from the restaurant for the second time to try their buffet as my wife and I (Dallanee Diaz who commented 5 star service and quality in that visit a week ago), which is only once per week on Wednesday from 6pm to 9pm. I went alone this time as my wife couldn't make it during the buffet hours. Food is high quality, but their cook to order food was still better overall, which is why I gave the food rating 4 stars, but for service it was 1 star because they surprised me with a gratuity charge of 18% without asking me to add it to the bill and they also will charge extra for using a credit card instead of paying in cash, so all in all I was expected to pay $27 plus change for the total bill. The buffet is a bit a expensive as most buffets charge between $15.99 to $18.99 for a march larger selection but their limited choices buffet was $20.99 which is a bit high for a buffet. Despite that, the high qualify of the food makes it almost worth it despite the limited choices. A young Asian girl with curly hair tried to argue that the gratuity charge was to cover some kind of operational costs such as insurance and what not and I advised her that's ILLEGAL as that is OPTIONAL for people to pay and NOT A REQUIREMENT. And the fact that she mentioned it goes to operational costs and possibly NOT to the server (an older lady wearing a mask who was nice and just brought me water) is also ILLEGAL as that cannot be taken away from their servers. I advised the young lady they need to ADJUST the real price of the buffet and not try to hide it, illegally, under "gratuity" because it doesn't, likely I presume, go to their server(s). Their management obviously does not know the law about gratuity and as new business trying to make it among the stiff competition of other Chinese restaurants in the Sugar Land area they may not last. If you go to this restaurant for their buffets on Wednesdays be sure to let them know NOT to add an "automatic gratuity" on your bill before you get it and to leave it at your discretion. THAT IS THE LAW WHETHER THEY...
Read moreI went there with my family today. We ate the food, paid for our meal and left outside to get into our car. As soon as we sat in our car, our waitress came to the driver’s side of the window where my wife was sitting and put her arms inside our car window and showed us the receipt that we did not tip. We explained to her that it is our choice not to tip, we paid for the meal and the tax which is our obligation. She continued to insist that we tip her. Throughout her prolonged diatribe which wasted our time and made my wife feel unsafe, we told her to please step away from the car as we had to leave (my wife was scared after we left because the waitresses hands were in our open window, my wife said “people are crazy these days, what if she had a knife”). Our baby was in the back seat btw. The waitress ended her monologue by threatening us not to dine here anymore (don’t worry, we will not be dining there and will tell our community members/friends not to either). We called the restaurant on our way home to speak with the manager but the same waitress picked up our call and said there is no manager which was clearly a lie. My wife told me she was actually considering tipping her until the waitress aggressively INSISTED that we tip. In conclusion, I highly discourage anyone from dining at this establishment. ZERO CUSTOMER RESPECT!!! UNSAFE ENVIRONMENT!!! GO AT YOUR OWN RISK OF BEING BULLIED AND...
