Mala Sichuan Bistro — Restaurant in Sugar Land

Wow!!!I really don't know where to start!!! A friend and I came here late after working 14 hour shift at hospital. We arrived at 915pm and they close at 10pm. We knew our time was limited but we were starving! Upon our arrival we were greeted with smiles. I asked if we would still get fresh food since it was almost closing. The hostess laughed and said " Of course you will!" Well yall!!! She didn't lie! My friend and I ordered 4 dishes total...crispy basil chicken, greenbeans with garlic, garlic pork and I tried something different listed under ""Organ" meat!!! It's a traditional Sichuan dish of fried intestine with big chunks of garlic and jalapeños. This peppers and green onions I can't remember the name of the dish (on menu under ORGAN)but this was AMAZING!!!!! I was trying something different and OMG the lightest crispness most delicious dish EVER! 10 out of 10! The crispness of the basil chicken so hot and fresh I had to wait 5 minutes to eat it! And it tastes so good!!!! The garlic pork and greenbeans just amazing. Temperature HOT and steaming fresh and so much flavor .. absolute PERFECTION! The waitress kept coming back to make sure we didn't need anything else and to keep our drinks full without us having to ask! This place is a GEM! They will definitely be seeing more of me! Great date place..cozy, comfortable enviroment...one can easily have conversation without yelling. Dimmed lights and great furniture! I'm ready for...

This is probably my favorite Mala Sichuan store. There are so many dishes that are good here. The fragrant pork ribs are really fragrant. I would order these again. The basil crispy chicken is bland. Not enough basil to call this a basil chicken. I would skip this next time. The Sauerkraut Fish and Lamb is my favorite dish here. I get this every time. The soup delicious sour flavors are spot on. The lamb is silky and the fish is clean tasting. There’s also bean thread noodles in here. And it’s large enough to feed 8-10 people. Spicy crispy chicken is always a must. Sizzling rice cracker pork goes well with the sauce they serve. Green jewels pork is delicious and I enjoy that green vegetable even though I don’t know what it’s called. Aromatic spicy lamb ribs is really good. I would order every time if it had more meat. Sauerkraut one peppercorn fish fillet is a lip numbing sour soup that is delicious. Beware the Szechuan peppers. Water Boiled fish filet is good. Eggplants in spicy garlic sauce. The sauce is what makes this good. Eggplant and string beans are fragrant. Fragrant wings are chopped in half and deep fried. I’m not sure why they did that as I prefer it whole. Not as good as the fragrant pork ribs.

I did try the crepes and I didn’t like them. I’ve had Mille crepes before and I think the filling between each crepe needs...

We were pretty disappointed with the service we received. It was great when we first walked in— vibe was relaxing. There was no wait on a Friday night, and the female server was kind and attentive when we were initially seated at our table.

It wasn’t until after our food was served.. was when the service was bad. Not once did anybody come by to check up on our group of 4. The servers would avoid eye contact and cater to the other tables while passing ours. It came to a point where we had to wave down the servers to finally get some attention after 10-15 minutes of no water and rice refills.

The restaurant is already much smaller compared to the Katy location and it wasn’t extremely busy. It’s just quite fascinating how three front of house staff were able to neglect us in a room of about 30-35 people. I’ve been to the Katy location a couple of times, and I’ve never received this kind of service. And if you haven’t been to the Katy location.. they are very on top of everything. Even with a FULL HOUSE with a restaurant of much bigger capacity. And they had around the same number of front of house staff too.

I’m glad that at least the food at this Mala is of good quality and is the same as Katy. But all in all, you guys really need to learn from the Katy location. I’d rather make the drive and get better service than to sit here and...
