This is one of my favorite places to eat around Summerville. I can’t compare it to other local sushi places, as we’ve not been to many others outside of one place down town Charleston. (Which is a lot more pricey)
Wild Ginger has a couple different “Happy Hours” that make their meals more affordable and worth looking into.
One is daily, 4-7 for a limited menu. The other less announced, is Monday. I’m not sure if it’s all day or if it starts at 4 till closing. I can’t remember.
But, keep in mind, the half off Monday covers more sushi menu than the everyday Happy Hour. With that said, the Monday Happy Hour excludes the small everyday Happy Hour menu. It doesn’t take away much. So it doesn’t bother me. Especially when I’m usually after the specialty rolls anyway. Which generally run for $14 a roll on a regular day.
I’ve tried many of the specialty rolls. All pack a punch full of flavor. I’m not as impressed with the smaller regular rolls. But that is a personal preference, not their lack of quality. I’m more of a sashimi and specialty rolls kind of person.
I’ve not tried any of their regular entrees and not sure if the happy hour covers that part of the menu. So please ask!
The staff is very friendly. We’ve always been well taken care of. The restaurant is always clean and welcoming. Crowd wise, so far it’s been fairly quiet. But we make it a point to go early! To beat the crowd.
I give a 4/5 only because I haven’t really tried anything else on their menu, but what I’ve had and what I’ve experienced I’ve...
Read moreTried the Thai Basil Chicken, Tum Yum Khung, fried wontons. Let’s just start with the one positive by saying it was fast service. Now for the food review. The Thai Basil Chicken is listed as “spicy” . Don’t worry it is far sweeter than spicy. Actual 2 out of 10 on spicy. Hardly made like a Thai dish should be made. Sauce is watered down and definitely piss poor attempt at Thai. The Tum Yum Khung . Well it tasted like super watered down tomato soup and absolutely not spicy as the claim in the menu. Mostly all onions and green peppers. I guess they go with the cheapest ingredients. Should be embarrassed to claim this as Tum Yum. Another poor attempt at cooking Thai style food. The wontons were actually good but the sweet chilli sauce was clearly watered down. This place should stop trying to make Thai food it is clearly nothing close to Thai. I would know I live in Thailand and just happened to be here visiting unfortunately. Again this appears to be cooked by someone that maybe took a Thai poking class on a vacation to Phuket and failed to take good notes or got scammed on their class. After further review of the menu this place seems to be trying to cook way to many different types of Asian food rather than perfect a few. They should remove all Thai from the menu as they clear have no ability to cook this style. I would recommend actually using more chilli...
Read moreWe always eat here when our daughter comes to visit and have always had positive experiences until now. Our daughter is vegan and although she has been here before and never had any issues, and the restaurant advertises as vegan , allergy friendly they were not accommodating this visit. We always make it a point to check what is in the food she eats before ordering. We were told the only sauce she could have on the food was soy sauce. Every sauce has meat in it. What kind of meat is in teriyaki sauce? Don't you make the sauce to order? Soba, miso are all vegan but not here. We asked for no egg in the fried rice and we were told it would be an up charge of $4.00!! (Due to new management rules) Not to mention the fact that we were ignored and our food came out 2 at a time very spaced out. By the time the last person was finally served his food the first 2 people were already done eating. We went out of our way to eat here, sad to say we will NOT...
