My wife and I walked in at 11:36am this morning hoping to have some breakfast. PJ's website shows that breakfast is served every day until 12:00pm. As soon as we walked through the door the bartender yells at us that they are only serving lunch now. We should have left right then. Normally when you walk into a restaurant you are greeted in a friendly manner and not being yelled at by the bartender.
We still sit down and a waitress comes over to us and hands us some menus. My wife asks her when they stop allowing breakfast orders since the website and menus all show breakfast is served until Noon everyday. The waitress glances over at the bartender and quietly tells us that even though the menus and their website state that breakfast is served everyday until Noon that they recently changed the stopping time for breakfast to 11:45am. I look at my watch and it is only 11:40am. The waitress looks back at me and says "Sorry" like it doesn't matter what time it really is. They, as a group, have decided that breakfast is ceasing to be served today regardless of what time they advertise or tell us. We should have left then also.
We decide to stay and give them the benefit of the doubt. We order nachos with taco meat added, fried mushrooms, and Buffalo chips. The fried mushrooms and the buffalo chips were just okay. I probably would not order them again because I felt like I could get the same quality from the frozen food section at Kroger. Then they brought out the nachos a few minutes later. They had put all the toppings on the nachos on a pizza pan and run it through the pizza oven. So the cheese you normally expect to be hot and slightly melted was completely burnt and hard. The taco meat was also burnt and rock hard. And the tomatoes and jalapenos were mushy and burnt and all the chips were dark brown from being in the oven too long. The waitress asks us how everything looks. My wife started to answer because I knew she was not happy with the appearance of the nachos. As soon as my wife started to answer, the waitress says "Oh, it looks like you both need more water." She then proceeds to quickly grab both of our plastic cups and abruptly heads back to the kitchen. She obviously did not care of want to hear what I, or my wife, thought about the food. Another opportunity to leave, we definitely should have.
The waitress returns with our plastic cups filled with water and two sets of utensils and napkins. We notice that the top edges of our cups look like a beaver had just finished gnawing on them in the back right before they brought them out to us. We then unfold our sets of utensils to discover that neither the fork or the knife looked clean at all and also had water spots all over them.
Overall, this was a horrible experience and I would not recommend this place to anyone. I really do not understand why this whole experience started off badly but it seems like the bartender was in a bad mood and made the decision right away to make this a bad experience for us. We had heard good things from others about the breakfast here. Maybe it is or maybe it is not. We did not find out today and we will never find out now. And even if it is a great place to eat breakfast, if they do not change how they greet and treat paying customers at their restaurant less and less people will continue to eat here. I would have given a half star if Google would have given me the option. The one star rating they are getting from this review is a gift in my opinion. Do not waste your money going to...
Read moreIt was a beautiful Sunday morning when my family of five and I headed out for some back-to-school shopping at the packed Tanger Outlet Mall in Sunbury, Ohio. After a long three hours of walking in and out of stores with no luck, we were all downright starving.
As we cruised down the highway, half-looking for another boring fast-food drive-thru, we saw it. And not just with our eyes—my heart lit up, too. There it was: PJ’s Family Restaurant. Maybe it was fate, or maybe just the wind, but somehow we found ourselves pulling into the quiet little parking lot of this hidden gem, full of old-school charm.
We all looked at each other—and then our stomachs growled in unison like they knew something good was coming.
Walking in, we were greeted right away by a sweet, smiling waitress who made us feel at home. She got us seated and quickly asked for our drink orders. I asked if they had chocolate milk, and she kindly said she’d check to see if they had any left. I really appreciated that.
Sure enough, just a couple minutes later, she returned with drinks in hand and took our orders. I went with the BLT wrap and fries.
Not even seven minutes later, our food arrived—hot and fresh. The bacon was cooked to perfection, and the lettuce and tomato were crisp and cool. Now let me tell you about the fries—crispy, golden, and just the way I like ’em. And to top it off? A bottle of malt vinegar came with them. I didn’t waste a second drizzling it over my plate.
As I sat there enjoying every bite, I realized something. This wasn’t just some small-town diner. This was a family restaurant full of love. You could taste it in the food and feel it in the service. My whole family agreed: this wouldn’t be our last visit to PJ’s.
As we stepped outside and made our way back to the car, full and happy, we couldn’t help but think—wherever you are, PJ, you built one heck of a restaurant.
Now, some folks might wonder why I gave it four stars instead of five. The only reason? The bill came out to $111 with tip, which felt just a tad on the pricey side. But given the quality of the food and the heartwarming experience, it’s hard to complain. We’ll be back, no...
Read moreThis was our third visit to PJs. The first two were not bad at all. In fact, I would’ve rated a four or a five. Unfortunately, today’s visit is resulting in this negative review. We first entered, and were told we could sit in the back room, which looked more like a banquet room versus a restaurant. We decided we would wait for a table. Two tables opened up and when we looked at the lady behind the bar like hey, can you go clean that table? She gave us a pretty snotty look. She then went to the tables and picked up the items off of it, including the tips that were left. Unfortunately, she never returned to the tables to wipe them off. Several other waitresses, including the lady behind the bar who picked up the items stood around and did nothing. Finally one of the waitresses grabbed the cleaning solution and went to the table but that was after we had asked, could we sit there. Once seated it got a little bit better. At least we were served our food in a timely manner and it was the food was good. Unfortunately we had to ask for refills and was never given more than one. After leaving, I unfortunately left my phone on the table course that was my fault. We returned into the restaurant no more than one minute after we had walked out only to find that the lady behind the bar had given my phone to another table that was also leaving. Then we had to travel around Sunbury to finally locate my phone with the lady they gaven it to driving around town. Fortunately, we were able to track my phone using find my phone. It was very evident that everyone working there seemed to have the attitude that “it’s not my job”….to help each other out. There was definitely not a teamwork attitude. There was a very negative atmosphere among the employees. I am not sure we...
