I have come to Habit 5 times in the last 3 weeks. I've been to stores in Carmichael/Fair Oaks, Sunnyvale, Fremont, and one other in Mountain View Everytime I order between 5 and 9 meat patties, and I ask for a small bowl of chopped lettuce and a little mayonnaise. I always get it with a smile, except this evening. The gentleman that took my order said I cannot have some lettuce and when I asked for mayonnaise he insulted me and said it sounds like I am ordering a burger. I am not able to eat carbs because of allergies. I eat very few of any vegetables and rarely eat mayo. The lettuce I was happy to pay for and he said he couldn't and brushed me off like I was causing trouble and trying to get free food.
I mean, wow. My first job in 1976 was as a fry cook and cashier at Burger King. I never treated anyone to that kind of embarrassing exchange.
About business, specifically the fast food business. People don't come there to try and get $0.30 of extra lettuce so that they can brag about it. And it takes a thousand such transactions to impact a business. But, marketing, the kind that is done through good will and a smile, over $0.30 of lettuce, well, that does wonder for repeat business. It takes on bad attitude and miscaracrerized comment to destroy the good will of a restaurant especially if that person contacts and has these kinds of interactions with many patrons. That is what ruins a restaurant, not the free lettuce but the poor treatment of a patron by accusing them of trying to "undercut" the business. Yes, he said that, as he handed my meal to me and, because he noticed me writing something on my phone, probably tried to head it off with a half filled bowl of lettuce. I appreciated it very much indeed, and when he said that, I mentioned I was willing to pay for the lettuce. He said it just seems like I am trying to build a burger. Lol. I'm a carnivore. The last thing I want is a burger. But lettuce is very safe as it has very little unsafe toxins and is mostly water. It's just a personal choice. I want to put in a plug here to say that The Habit has the best meat in my opinion. I eat meat patties everywhere at every restaurant. McDonalds are ok. In N Out is horrible tasting, Carls is good, Jack in the Box is OK. Burger King not so much, Wendy's, I just don't like that flavor. But The Habit, it tastes the best to me! I've been coming here for over 10 years, and brought my whole family every week!
Kid. Listen. Business isn't always about the decimal point in the thick of it. You have to realize the value of good will in a business model that thrives on Value and Repeat business. People love to be treated special. The last thing you want to do, is tell someone that it seems they are trying to cut the business profits. Especially when they tip you anyway for 20%. I was shocked to be honest because you haven't learned what really makes business work. It's good will. Marketing at the counter with a smile. That wins people over, and they leave nice reviews and tell other people. I didn't know this either in 1976, at 14 years old, but I learned it fast. I hope you learn it too.
Thanks for the lettuce. I'll pay if you let me. But, remember, people are just there to eat, not destroy to place.
Good luck in the future. I hope you learn something. I ran a business...
Read moreIn 'n Out & Five Guys has got some work to do with The Habit Burger Grill in town! This place was awesome! After eating here, I just wish there were a lot more of these around town!
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the cashier, and BOOM! there is this huge menu with all kinds of different, delicious entree/side options! I wasn't sure what I wanted to get since this was my first time there. I had a hard time choosing between the Terriyaki Chargrill w/ Grilled Pineapple and the BBQ Bacon Charburger...
Food - I decided to go with the Terriyaki Chargrill w/ Grilled Pineapple and I think I made the right choice! (Even though I want to try the BBQ Bacon next time) I took a nice vulumptious bite out of my burger and it was like a party in my mouth. Between the perfectly cooked patty, the lightly charred pineapple, and then all the fixins, it was fantastic! They also have a little side bar with assorted peppers, I picked up some jalepeno's to put on my burger as well. The taste of sweet and spicy just made my night. I also got an order of the Sweet Potato Fries and those were a delicious accent to my burger. They were cooked nicely and had a great sweet potato flavor to go along with it.
Service - The employees that all worked there looked like they enjoyed being there. They were very helpful and with a big smile on their faces. They were more than happy to help us out with the different sauces and fixings I needed to be on my way with my food. They were very friendly and made us feel comfortable while we waited for our food. They also made the food very quickly! Perfect for a lunch hour!
Overall, this place is pretty sweet. I wish there were more of them and I also wish I knew about this place long before today. But, the Sunnyvale one just opened, so that makes sense. I look forward to eating here again. The food wasn't greasy and didn't fall apart like some burger joints. Also, their prices aren't too mean to your pocket.. I highly recommend giving this place a...
Read moreWish I could give 0 stars... Don't expect ANY form of customer service from this place! Yesterday on (Mother's day of all days) I placed an order for over $100, they made 2 of the orders incorrect so I called and asked for them to be re-made. When I called I asked if I needed to bring the incorrectly made meals back to exchange them for the new one's and I was told no. Upon my arrival to the restaurant I asked for a Manager (thinking this would get me the best service). He greeted me, and once I informed him of the situation he immediately caught an attitude and was accusing me of ordering our order wrong when I KNOW I asked for my order correctly! (i.e. I wanted the tri tip salad, what was on the receipt was chicken). Did they not train their cahiers to read the order back to the customer to ensure the order is correct! And then it got WORSE... I then explained that they made one of my veggie burgers incorrect as it was missing cheese as I requested cheese on the burger, he proceeded to tell me that he could give me a slice of freaking cheese rather than re-make the burger! I was furious! I told him he expected me to walk out of here with a freaking slice of cheese for a burger that THEY made incorrectly! AND I had to waste gas and time to come back on Mothers day and have them get it right! HA, great Customer Service from a Manager!! He finally started taking my order and remade both incorrect items. If your looking for incorrectly made meals served with a SUPERSIZED attitude this...
