Sal's Italian Ristorante — Restaurant in Sunrise

Pizza here is the REAL THING! If you understand what it takes to make a genuine NY Pizza, then you will enjoy that pie! However.... Many bars and lounges advertise a 'Happy Hour' and this location is one of them. MOST bars and lounges offer two-for-one bar brands and common beverages such as wine and beer. Here, the server, (name withheld...), admonished us, "Hey, there's only 4 minutes left of happy hour, I can get another 'cav' for each of you ladies," (my wife and her sister). In this case the 'cav' was a common brand, "J. Lohr," that sells for $12.95 at the nearby Total Wine & Spirits for a 750ml bottle. Here, at Sal's the regular price for a GLASS of the stuff is $14.00! So, when the waitress offered 'Happy Hour' prices, we thought that meant the 'two-'fer' that would normally be expected at a place like this. NOPE! Not happy that I was charged $48.00 for four glasses of some of the cheapest wine in the city after we saved all of $2/glass on it. Just NOT HAPPY! (It's more than 24-hours later and I'm STILL not happy!) Be careful when this restaurant offers any kind of 'special deal.' There's likely to be some fine print! I rate the pizza a full-on TEN! BAD: I just picked up my order from the Sunrise location. The SIZE of my portion was incredibly SMALL!!! I could not believe it. I thought it was a joke or they messed up my order, but it was not a joke. I called and spoke to the manager and he told me that it was a lunch size portion , but it looked more like a kid size portion. I am 115 pounds and 5.2'. I do not eat much but I was still hungry after eating it. I never call restaurants or write reviews but I just HAD TO. I spent over $12 and I am still hungry. Very disappointed. I will definitely go to Cheesecake Factory or somewhere else next time I want pasta; I may spend a little more but it will be worth it when I am (at least) full and have left overs!!

GOOD: The staff is friendly, the manager I spoke to was friendly and asked if I would like him to remake the food. I said no because I could not take anymore time from work to go back and get it. He said the sizes are pre-determined and he would speak to the owner about it. I told him I only called because I wanted to let him know how dissatisfied I was with the portion size. I've eaten at this Sal's about 6 times and so far the food has been good every time. I just ordered takeout food from there tonight. When I went to pick up my food, a lady was ahead of me exclaiming how she eats there all the time. Their chicken parm dinners are one of the best I've ever had. I used to eat at his Coconut Creek restaurant before this one. The place was always jam packed. You have to try it for yourself. If you don't like it, then don't go back. I always give every place the benefit of the doubt first. One thing I did notice tonight that there was a lot of new faces. I don't know if this happened because of the last person who commented about the place being understaffed or not. This place is still fairly new so it's still taking time for the word to get out.
