Bar-B-Que House — Restaurant in Surfside Beach

Edit 7 years later...... We stopped in this location because we needed it one more time before heading back to FL. I USED to live here, and this was my favorite location. However, that has definitely changed!! We pulled in, and the parking lot was PACKED! I was SO excited because I knew it was because it was so good!!! We sat down and had to wait a bit before the waiter came by to get our drinks. I asked for a sample of their chicken salad because not all locations are equal.

The waiter came back with our drinks and said they didn't have time to do a sample. I asked if I could go ask, and he said sure. So, I walked up and asked for the sample myself. The manager (?) said sure and walked back to grab my sample. The cook was mouthing off about it and peeked his head around the corner to give me a nasty look. I just smiled and took the sample. I ended up ordering the chicken salad. I loved their wings before, and that's basically what it tasted like.

The food wasn't bad, but if there are issues with the staff and it interferes with the service to the customers, THAT is an issue. It was VERY obvious the cook was not having the best day, but that made the entire atmosphere very negative and uncomfortable. I know people can't have good days all the time, but in a situation like this, the manager should have stepped in and taken care of the request instead of sending the waiter back to the table to say the cook said no because he's too busy.

It was obvious the waiter was the only one serving today. He was running from one side of the restaurant to the other. The manager did help by running food, but that was only after the cook started yelling about food being in the windows. You work in a small family owned restaurant, not a 5 star Michelin....Get over yourself honey. He REALLY needs a reality check because I would have fired him on the spot for his attitude.

I'll make the trip back up to the north location before I come back to this location. It's definitely worth the drive.

I would have scored lower but the food was actually good. I placed my order on line to have curbside service at 6:30. I have never been to this establishment before. I arrived and it was packed... usually a good sign. I did not see any curbside parking ( it was hidden in front of the drive through lane. You wouldn't see it unless you circled the restaurant. which I did not do because I was afraid I'd lose the only parking spot I saw.). I had gotten a confirmation of my order earlier. It gave a number to call to let them know you were there. I called multiple times but no answer. Finally I got on the drive through lane. There were 2cars ahead of me. 20 minutes later, I finally got to the window. That is where, for the first time, I could see the curbside pickup parking. After waiting for several minutes the drive through window opened. I tried to explain that I was here to pick up an order. I gave the attendant the order number. She looked at me like I had 3 heads! I showed her the confirmation email. Still she was confused. Finally she asked if I had placed the order on line. deep sigh. Yes. After several more minutes of waiting she handed me the bag and asked me what sauce I'd like. I asked her what the choices were. She was obviously frustrated at this point and referred me to the stickers on the drive through window. As I said, I have never been to this place before so I didn't know to look there for the choices. Finally I made it home. I ordered the Grandaddy Plate to share with someone since the menu stated they gave "generous helpings". This order was over $20, mind you, with no drinks or add ons. Just the plate. There's no way I would call the portions "generous". I would have rated them with 1star but the BBQ was good. It wasn't the best (rather "fast food" tasting) but it was good. The French fries were soggy. There were only 2 hush puppies included. I will not go back. There are plenty of other BBQ places here to...

This place opened up quite a few years ago, and the wife and I had never visited. Well, tonight we did... And wow... I was pleasantly surprised. The place was fairly busy, but we found a place to sit right away...

The service that was provided was awesome. On the receipt, it said our server was A. B.. If that was her name and not a general pseudonym, lady... You rocked!

Now, for the important part... The food! I ordered what was called "The Grand Daddy", which was a 3 meat plate... I'm going to tell you, if you leave this place hungry??? It's your own darned fault. I had Beef Brisket, Pork BBQ ribs, and 1/2 smoked chicken.. With 2 sides... (The wife and I are low carbing, and they had options... And even left off the hush puppies for us). All of the sauces are on the table, which I found refreshing... (No sugary sauces on the meats PERIOD)

The wife had the medium Hickory Smoked BBQ Plate, and she said that if she had gotten a large, she wouldn't have been able to finish it.

The amount of food for the cost was simply amazing. And the quality of the BBQ, was quite good.

If you were to ask me, was there any drawbacks??? Only 1 that I could see... Being, that I am accustomed to Eastern NC style BBQ... I would have liked a little more red pepper in the Eastern sauce. The vinegar was great, it just needed a little more spiciness.
