This place has been open for about six months. I came in today with my daughter to eat. I walked up to the cash register and two women were talking to each other. They were talking about mindless topics but neither greetef or even acknowledged my presence with even a smile or a head nod. One lady seemed to be in her thirties and the other was either high school age or in her late twenties. Then a third lady asked me what she could get me. I told her then I thanked her for greeting me. The two previous women then wanting to stop talkinh and began to look at me very rudely. That shows that they were aware of their rudeness towards me because I just thanked someone for acknowledging me and they took it as me noticing their short comings as the staff. The two same women later gave better service to those who looked similar to themselves who didn't even buy as much as I did.
I ordered a mocha latte and a rosemary vanilla latte, 2 morning buns and 2 salmon toasts. I got both lattes with almond milk and wanted the mocha to be the 12oz size and the rosemary vanilla to be 16oz since the mocha was for my kid, but both lattes came as the 16oz which was annoying.
I feel the prices are kind of pricey but I came for the experience. I looked and touched the plants. One fell and spilled dirt so I told the third lady who is married to the owner which explained why i initially thought she was the owner when she first asked what she could get me when I first approached the register but when she didn't input it into the system it showed a bit of lack of true concern for the patronage. She did joke how she only volunteers there. Her husband later let me know that she's a teacher.
The place us a hipsters' dream. My daughter seemed to love my coffee more than hers. She wanted the water more than her food. The rosemary vanilla tasted better than the mocha, I highly recommend it. The salmon toast was great. The morning bun was light, fluffy, and tasted better after I dunked it into my latte.
The shop next door was overpriced but I got a t-shirt for my daughter. I spoke with the owner and I ended up getting a monstera cutting for $16. Even the owner sort of had hesitation inhis voice when saying yes after zi asked if that was the price for the cutting like he knew it was a bit more than the worth but I still got it because why not? The t-shirt was $24. Like I input, the shop is overpriced but I love supporting local businesses.
Overall, it's an okay spot with overpriced items but you pay more for experience here. It has lots of room for improvement but it's just starting. I wish I took pictures but I was too busy...
Read moreI’ve lived here for 10 years and this is hands down one of the most delicious breakfast spots in Surfside/Myrtle area. You know it’s going to be something special when the owner himself is the one cooking and plating up breakfast in the kitchen.
I tried the overnight oats. Blew my mind. They were sweet and balanced, perfect soft consistency, with an entire fresh banana and generous amount of coconut shavings on top. The serving was actually bigger than I was expecting which was a plus! Tried the maple sea salt iced latte and it was very good as well. You can definitely tell that they use high quality coffee and syrups instead of generic crap you find in a lot of other breakfast establishments. I was told that they handmake their syrups and it is very evident in the taste of the drinks.
The atmosphere is very bright and airy. Very comfortable booth-bench style seating as well as singular 2-tops and 4-tops. The dining area is just one big square when you first walk in so it is impossible to get lost or confused unless you are especially dense.
…on that note- some of the negative reviews complain about the ambiguity of the routine and how the staff aren’t particularly helpful but that is just flat out not true to reality. The staff are very polite and quick, there is a giant sign “ORDER HERE” above the counter that is within direct eyesight of the front door. You order at the “ORDER HERE” spot, there is a holder full of double-sided menus (with pricing for each item) directly at the counter plus a very nicely laid out chalkboard-style drink menu that is about the size of a door with all the drink options/sizes/prices. Once you order you get a cute little table number and go sit wherever you wish! When your food/drink is ready they bring it right to ya! The only way it could be easier is if they pre-chewed and baby-birded your breakfast directly into your mouth.
Pricing was actually beyond reasonable for the serving sizes and how fresh everything tasted and how high the caliber of the ingredients are. Again, seeing the owner going Chef Gordon Ramsey mode in the back tells you everything you need to know about how awesome the food is about to be.
I cannot wait to be back. Mason makes the best...
Read moreWe’ve been here several times and are huge fans of the treats and the coffee. The pistachio morning bun and the lavender scone are our favorites, by far! The coffee shop itself is adorable. A cozy setup and plenty of room for a group or just two of you.
The last two times we’ve been, however, the service has really knocked down the experience. Each time we’ve been in line and when it was our turn to move to the register- we were met with a blank stare. No words. No smile. So we move up and start ordering. No hello, no friendly talk- nothing. It makes it very awkward for the customer.
This last time we were in, I asked if we could heat up our scone and morning bun. The young girl asked another girl if you were able to heat the scone up and she said yes. Awesome. As we are paying, the girl taking our order sighs and says in an annoyed tone, “well, I’ll be back in 500 hours because I have to go heat two things up.” It took me aback, for sure. For one- this is your job. And we asked if they were able to be heated up- we didn’t assume anything. I just spent $25 trying to support a local business and you’re being rude right in front of me. Second, this may have just been a badly placed “joke” that wasn’t funny. However- it really rubbed us the wrong way. It was rude and there’s no way around that fact.
As of right now, I’m not really sure if we’ll be back any time soon. The coffee shop is adorable and has great potential but the customer service is just not very good. It’s hard to spend money somewhere where you feel like a burden...
