My mom heard about this place from a You Tube personality who reviewed this restaurant. I don’t know if that Real Estate/ Lifestyle Video Blogger had any restaurant review experience or worked in the food industry but I don’t consider this a Five nor Four star place. Our family used to own a made-to-go order franchise and before then a deli in NYC. I’ve been a server and bartender and studied wine regions in college so I know a little more than the average restauranteur. (Also some published reviews and restaurant openings in NYC & ATL).
Overall for the price point a little disappointing. Food: 3.5 noodle soup, 4 for pork belly Service: 4 very accommodating Presentation: 4 Ambiance: 3
Compared to the best rice noodle restaurant in Seoul my mom said this dish was a solid 3.5 and she’s being generous.
Her dish came out before mine but when she tasted it she said it was salty, which is a big flaw b/c this noodle dish is suppose to be light and not hearty or salty. Thankfully the owner came by and checked on us. I tasted it as well and it had a salty taste and a strong clam after taste. I like salty stuff so if I find it salty it’s definitely over salted or seasoned. They were kind enough to start over for my mom. She has high cholesterol so she needs to watch her sodium in take.
The second time it was finally right, the noodle texture was soft but chewy and was hand sliced so very good but the stock didn’t need the spicy sauce and that it could’ve been more temperature hot. Her palate like my aunt is very sensitive.
My pork belly came out sizzling and perfectly cooked, cut into bite size pieces. My only disappointment was that there wasn’t a lot of meat , barely four strips for $20! Maybe dinner service prices? They probably cut them up into small pieces to make it look like you’re getting more. Plus the pieces were more fat than meat. 😕
Once the noodle dish came out the second time it was perfect and had plenty of seafood in it with a mixture of clams, a few shrimp, julienned squid and something else.
The banchan (side dishes) that came with the meal individually all were very good. Two different types of kimchi one fermented the other fresh, the steamed seasoned soy bean sprouts were perfect, the spicy radish (각두기) was also perfectly fermented and crunchy, the Korean pickled radish slices as wrappers for the pork also on par.
The only thing I didn’t like about the meal was the differences levels of audio through the place. At times it was really loud and other times nothing at all. There are three TVs and two played K pop so that was majorly distracting while trying to engage my mom in conversation. Random spurts of audio would pop up in the environment. Either keep it muted or on throughout, stop playing w/ the remote please!! I might come back just to introduce Korean pork belly to my bf. Honestly I’d rather make it home w/ my Lodge pan but the banchan made the...
Read moreOn the first evening of our trip to Atlanta, we had dinner at 109K BBQ. Due to a delay in our schedule, we arrived at the restaurant past 9:30 PM. I was worried that the restaurant might be closing and that the service might not be great, but my concerns turned out to be completely unnecessary.
The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Since it was our first time there, we took quite a while to decide on our order. The kids were getting hungry and a bit cranky, but the staff patiently gave us time to think and even offered helpful recommendations.
We decided on the beef set menu, along with doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and steamed egg. The meat was served one type at a time, and every single cut was delicious. Our family especially loved the beef brisket and short ribs. The meat was so tender that it practically melted in our mouths—we could have kept eating forever!
One small downside was that they didn’t provide lettuce or perilla leaves for wraps, but instead, they grilled bean sprouts and kimchi alongside the meat, which turned out to be a unique and flavorful touch. They also served beautiful beet-colored pickled radish wraps, which I absolutely loved.
The staff not only provided excellent service but also grilled the meat perfectly for us, making us feel truly taken care of. The doenjang jjigae was so flavorful that our younger child finished an entire bowl of rice with it. The steamed egg was soft, fluffy, and absolutely delicious.
Since we wanted something extra besides just meat, we also ordered the dumpling hot pot. Because it was late at night, we opted for chive dumplings instead of kimchi dumplings. The dish came with a rich beef broth, mushrooms, dumplings, and rice cakes. Honestly, I was already full when my husband suggested ordering another dish, and I was a bit annoyed—but once I tasted it, I couldn’t stop eating! The dumplings were packed with flavorful filling, and the combination of mushrooms and broth was simply amazing. We ended up finishing almost everything, but we still had a little broth and rice cakes left, which we packed to go because it was too good to waste.
In conclusion, 109K BBQ was the best dining choice of our trip! Our whole family was satisfied, and if I could, I’d give this restaurant 100 stars. Highly...
Read moreI've always seen ATL Gom BBQ but never stopped by, until now. It's located in Suwanee, GA at the Old Peachtree exit off of I-85. It's in the same shopping center as ASSI supermarket.
Korean BBQ is safe to say pretty popular in GA. Lots of them offer a similar menu and a similar experience for the most part. With so much competition, it makes it kind of hard to stand out now a days.
Interior wise, decor is fairly simple, you have booth seating options with coal grilles built into the table beneath a vented hood for removing smoke. Which I will comment, you definitely don't leave smelling too smoky like some other kbbq restaurants. That's a huge plus is my book.
The menu is pretty much like any other kbbq restaurant. All the meat options were pretty much up to par with what you would expect. Didn't see anything too exotic. You can choose to order from the menu or go for preset meaol with the meat already chosen for you. Of course you also have an all you eat option too, which if you order everyone else at your table will have to get as well.
Your meal is accompanied with an assortment of small side kimchi and salad base dishes. You also get a steamed egg souffle. Pretty much what you would get at other places too.
The meat quality is pretty good overall I would say. Not much to describe here, the meat tasted good for the most part so no real complaints. Beef and pork had lots of flavor and some smoky-ness. By the way they give you a lot of bean sprouts which cook right next to the meat. The bean sprouts takes like they have had some butter added to for a flavor boost.
Service was pretty good. They weren't too busy so can't say how it is when it's a packed house. They come by often enough so you really don't get too much of alone time in between the meat cooking so it sort of feels like your server is part of your dining party too.
Overall, it's a good Kbbq restaurant. It's sort of hidden so not too many may want to drive out to eat here but it's definitely worth checking...
