There were several 5+ Star items, definitely a hidden gem kinda place. My personal thoughts Try all the sauces, but the Western Carolina and South Carolina 1st they are good & compliment the BBQ nicely. If you don’t try them 1st you will find they do not hold a candle to the Memphis. I’m talking it’s a make a flip flop good kinda sauce. We tried the Pork, Turkey & Beef Brisket. Again two of the 3 were good, but the Brisket was awesome. You don’t even need sauce, but add the Memphis & it’s divine. Note ALL were QUALITY. Which is hard to find today due to high cost and people caring. As a foodie I appreciate quality over quantity. If something like BBQ is cheap most likely the quality is poor & age of product is on mark down. The beans were fine, the Mac & Cheese good enough to stand on its own. However the Tater Salad, So delicious that If I lived close I’d buy tubs for every family event & pass it off as mine. My negatives The sweet tea was brewed nicely, but not very sweet. The Coconut Cream Pie I had high hopes for, but it tasted commercial though not horrible. Lastly the BBQ pork sandwich, that online looked AMAZING. Coleslaw, pickles & onions. I saved it for last to split with my hubby because after tasting the Memphis sauce I knew it would be an Award winning sandwich. Unfortunately it was just pork that I’d already bought to try on a bun that I’d also already bought. My hubby thought I was crazy buying excess & I had to explain myself LOL. The staff absolutely fabulous! We ordered & paid for Ribs, when we got there they were sold out. The reason I didn’t add that to my negatives (Because can you really call Sold Out negative?) is because they handled it properly. Kind, Apologetic & professional. As a small business owner I’d be proud to have them working for me. My conclusion, when we drive the 8 hours to visit our daughter at WCU Nicks will definitely be on our food list. Oh! To the owner, BOTTLE those...
Read moreThe most amazing thing happened to me the other day at this place. They do not have the dining room open because of Covid. But I had all of my teeth pulled earlier in that day. I was in so much pain I could barely walk. My mouth and my face was covered in blood. I opened the door and asked them if they could serve me. I knew they carried baked beans which are kind of soft and I believed that I could swallow them without chewing. The young man that came out to ask for my order saw my condition. I was nearly in tears and I asked him if I could get some of the baked beans because I thought maybe I could swallow them whole. He said “don’t worry about it man I’ll be right back“. He brought me out a thing of baked beans and warned me that there might be some small meat particles in there. Yet he asked for no compensation. I gave him some money anyway because I don’t want anything for free, but he offered to give it to me for free. Simply because he could see how much pain and suffering I was in. He even took the time to warn me what I was facing in order to eat it. I wish I had caught his name. He was a blessed angel sent to me by God himself. I have always loved the barbecue from this place. I have eaten there many times but I don’t believe that this young man had ever seen me before. He was just being good to somebody who was suffering so badly. I want to apologize to him for being covered in blood on my face and mouth. But I also want to thank him for realizing that I was just going through something that was totally part of humanity. It’s people like that that make life worth living. I was literally at the end of my rope and a free bowl of baked beans meant so much to me. I can promise you guys, when I can actually chew again I will be back for a good sandwich. Thank you for what you did for a sick,...
Read moreOn October 26th I ate at Big Nick's BBQ for lunch. We were a party of six. And while folks were trying to figure out what they wanted to eat for lunch I attempted to move a single table over in the dining room to make room for 6. The skinny waitress with purple fingernail polish started yelling at me in an "over measured response" to NOT move the table! Further, in a very loud tone of voice she told us that there was plenty of room for four. When we advised her very politely that there was a party of six she said then "You can go on outside"! There are no signs to tell me not to move a table and I've not been at the restaurant before and she only told me once but she was literally yelling at me! I didn't want to bring the groups spirits down as the group was having a great time so I simply didn't say anything to her. Then it was my turn to order my food and she was brusque to say the least. Other members in my party asked for extra condiments and were told resolutely "No" to include that they couldn't purchase extra condiments either. This is just my side of the story and the reader won't know me but I'm super level-headed as is my group. It's why we didn't walk out. I'm just ending a 270 day trip around America via my RV and I haven't ran into anyone this year or frankly ever at a restaurant that was this abrasive. Food-wise I actually enjoyed my brisket as it had a fair amount of fat on it. My wife didn't. Overall though the table was satisfied with the food but not the god-awful young lady who has a bug up her butt the size of a VW! This story will be a reminder for the balance of our lives about the obnoxious waitress...
