Cosmic Carry-out — Restaurant in Sylva

I'm kinda torn between a 3 and a 4. We visited the first time in July while there for my daughter's college orientation. The burgers were delicious and the fries were amazing.

We had to go back to help her move into her dorm. We couldn't decide where to grab dinner so we decided to go with a known quantity. My husband did enjoy his burger. I thought mine was super bland and just tasted like grease. I was very hungry but couldn't eat more than a few bites. Mine had caramelized onions and I asked for raw onions but he said no. I'm not sure if it's because they don't use raw onions or why. He didn't say lol. But ok no big deal. I do like caramelized onions it's just rare that a place actually does caramelize them. It's more just cooked a bit. Asked for jalapenos on my burger and I got two little slices lol. Alrighty.

The fries were burnt. I'm talking a lot of them were actually black. I really wish I had taken a picture. They few that were only slightly burned were still very good.

Since my daughter is in college there I'm sure we will be back. I'll give them another shot and will definitely update my review if it's better. It's very possible he was just having an off night. It...

I kind of wanted to give a 1 Star review because the service we just received was really disappointing, but the food is actually really good. We came one time last year and had a pretty good experience and loved the food. However, we didn’t even get to order anything because the closing guy turned us away. My family and I were on vacation and we wanted to show them the really good burgers we enjoyed at Cosmic. It was a last minute craving, and our stay was about an hour away but I saw the place was open until 10:30 and GPS said we’d make it around 9:45. When we walked up, we looked through the options for about 5 min and when we were ready to order it was about 9:50 and the guy working told us pretty rudely that he was already closed and tried to flip the sign (it was open when we walked up and when he flipped it was still open). We weren’t going to argue because it was late but it was a little upsetting because even if closing time was 10, he should be able to at least make us a burger if he was cleaning up or told us while we were looking at the menu that he was closed. I’d like to preface this review by saying I love cosmic carry out. I always have since being at WCU, and I am not the type to ever leave reviews but the service I had today required one. My husband and I arrived to the Sylva location at 6:50 and ordered two standard burgers and one order of fries like we usually do. Our friends who got there slightly before us got their food within 10 minutes. 45 minutes later we decided to check on our food because it was strange for it to take that long and we noticed the cashier taking a smoke break so we figured they had just forgotten (no big deal). However, when asked what our approx wait time would be, my husband was told by the man employee with a ponytail that since we hadn’t tipped he had moved us behind everyone who ordered shortly after us and pointed to the jar until he walked away….
