If I could give zero stars, I really would. It's not about their pizza, however, which I quite like (and we all know how hard it's been to find a really great pizza place in Tacoma). This is about customer service, business management and everything else BUT the pizza. Salamones is usually our "go to" when we have a date night (and kids need dinner), or we are hanging by the pool over the summer (and don't feel like lugging all our BBQ stuff). Over the past year, we have graciously dealt with the "2-4 hour order ahead" (as they are so busy - but can't seem to keep up with demand) and I even resorted to using the Slice App to ensure my pizza arrived correctly (I would rather just go ahead and pay the $2 fee than call it in and talk to a 14 year old - who doesn't seem to know the menu, delivery window or really anything that's happening within the pizza parlor). What happened to us yesterday was the "straw that broke the camel's back". I ordered a pizza, via the Slice App, at 4pm (for a 6pm delivery - and received confirmation that my order was accepted). My husband and I were heading out on a date later, and wanted an easy dinner that my kids would be excited about. At 6:35pm, I get a text from our babysitter that the pizza hadn't arrived yet. So, I call Salamones (during the middle of my date with my husband) and talk to probably one of the rudest people I have ever encountered in my life. This young lady (and they are usually all the same types of people who answer the phone there) first told me it was the fault of the Slice App (blamed it on a malfunction). Then, she found my order and blamed the delivery person (who obviously mis-delivered our order). Then, she accused me of wanting a free pizza (aka I received the pizza and must be calling to some how get another - free - pizza). I kid you not. I was so offended and upset. Then, when I asked how long it would take for them to send another, she told me "at least an hour". My kids are 7 and 9. At this point they are going to bed in about an hour and a half. She was also still accusing me of wanting a free pizza (by the way - we have cameras everywhere and I even checked them to see if the driver perhaps went to a neighbor's house - nope). She then proceeded to hang up on me (and trust me, at this point all I was asking for was an expedited pizza - not even an apology for the extremely offensive behavior or for a refund - not once during our conversation did I say that I expected a free pizza or anything else - all I wanted was to get my kids fed quickly so that I could return to my date night). My husband had to call back (as she wouldn't pick up the phone for my number). He spoke to the manager. The manager wouldn't even admit that it was their fault (and decided to blame the app). He then told my husband that we needed to order at 2pm for a 6pm delivery (because they are "so popular"). I mean, if you are going to lose our pizza, does it even really matter what time we order? We will never be ordering from Salamone's again. We will also be sharing our experience with all of our friends, neighbors and...
Read moreThis was some of the worst customer service that I ever experienced. I ordered pizza and received a text saying that it would be ready by 4:11. I show up at 4:15 and am told that it’s not ready yet and to give them 10 to 15 minutes. So I went out to my car and came back in at 4:30 asking if it’s done yet. Nope, they say give them 10 to 15 more minutes. When I come back in at 4:40 and ask again, I realize that they haven’t even made my pizza yet. Their response is that their website is telling people pizza will be ready too early and on their side my pizza didn’t need to be ready until 4:40. Well at this point, my pizza isn’t on time either way. And why would they tell me the two prior times that I came in that it would only be another 10 to 15 minutes. They knew I was their waiting and prioritized making pizzas they sell my the slice over making the one I was waiting for. While standing there, another customer asked about his pizza, and they hadn’t even printed out a ticket or started his pizza either and he had been waiting in the store for an hour. When I asked for a refund, they told me I had to contact the 3rd party website. So essentially I was the only one inconvenienced, wasting an hour of my time with 3 hungry kids in the car. Their pizza could be the best pizza in the city, but I will not return there after the terrible service received. If you are too busy to prepare orders, either shut down the online app, or give a more realistic timeline. Don’t keep telling people a couple more minutes when you haven’t even started their pizza, and had no plan to...
Read moreUpdate. Decided to give this place another try. It's decent in a reheated pizza kind of way akin to NY style, but it's not quite the same. This time it wasn't severely burnt. Calzone was definitely much better than the pizza and was balanced compared to a lot of calzones. Sort of reminds you of dominoes pizza and a store bought pizza combined. It's great if you need something to eat fast with pizza by the slice and like a slight crispy crust on their reheated stuff. Sauce is better than papa Murphy's. Pizza isn't better than Domino's from a flavor standpoint as the ingredients aren't as tasty, but it's a little better quality in that it tastes fresh, but from a major chain. simple, quick pizza. Price may be a factor for some people. It's not cheap, but prices are going up everywhere and this is a local place we want to support.
Original review: It was pretty burnt pizza. The place wasn't busy. I try a lot of pizza places... I do appreciate good pizza and bad pizza as well. I wanted to see what New York style pizza was all about. It tasted like Costco pizza and a tombstone pizza we're combined... And not in a good way. Not that Costco pizza or tombstone is that good. But the point of the restaurant is not lost on me, and it's awesome that they have amazing deals for students and some extremely friendly people who can get you a slice quickly enough. The last two reasons are the only reason the place...
