I am gluten free due to an allergy. I often experience subpar sandwiches compared to “normal” ones, since people who are GF tend to be an afterthought for most food establishments. Sadly, this place wasn’t an exception. The ingredients in these sandwiches were really good, but they were small and the portions inside were a bit skimpy for the price charged.
Combined with the fact that their GF bread is half the size of the bread that is served to everyone else (but still costs $1.00 more for both a half and a whole sandwich), it’s just not a fair price for what you get. The employee that I picked up my sandwich from was not even aware that I was being charged more for GF bread - clearly more education and training is needed in this area.
Besides that, the GF bread is a kind of sweet, poppy seed, crumbly bread which falls apart as you eat the sandwich. Not a bad bread at all - just not for sandwiches and not comparable to a hoagie/baguette in size, texture or style. Disappointing - not being new to this rodeo, I’m used to it, I just get tired of it happening. There are lots of good GF bread options out there now for commercial ventures, but this place isn’t using one.
With “Sandwich” in their name, it is only fair that ALL eaters should be entitled to an excellent sandwich.
It would behoove this business to see what other places use, do some research and search for the best GF sandwich bread they can find. Then, equalize the size of the sandwich (maybe use more pieces of bread, other establishments do this) so that GF eaters get a sandwich that is the same size as everyone else’s. My sandwich size was half of a normal sandwich (or in my case, even half of a half - absolutely teeny!).
Otherwise: Customer service was very friendly, ingredient combos were tasty, and the order time was great! I’ll return when the GF issue is rectified, for now I will go elsewhere for GF sandwiches - as there are places in town that do...
Read moreI was really looking forward to checking this place out for the first time, but unfortunately, my experience didn’t quite meet expectations.
The staff was kind and welcoming, which I appreciated, but when it came to the food, I left feeling pretty underwhelmed, especially considering the price. I spent $31 on one and a half sandwiches, and while the flavors were decent, the portion sizes just didn’t match the cost. It felt like I paid more for the vibe than the meal itself.
The sandwich in the picture I posted was $9.00, this is an abysmal size of sandwich for that price.
I genuinely wanted to enjoy everything about this visit, but for what I spent, I walked away disappointed. I’m sharing this as honest feedback in hopes it’s helpful moving forward.
I honestly don't want a response talking about how long you smoke your pastrami or anything like that, just own that YOU KNOW you're overpriced for what people get.
Update
I see that I got the good ole "thank you for your honest review" yet NOTHING has changed and they are still overpriced for the portion of food you...
Read moreThe food here defeats anything negative I have to say about this place. It's not like the service was anything other than acceptable, we even ordered from a brand new hire that was receiving real time coaching and the order was correct!! The overall atmosphere of this downtown joint is excellent.. but sound and atmosphere go hand in hand in my book. Music levels in the dining area are comfortable, but as an audiophile, having your music played back overhead at the ordering counter where you need to be able to speak and hear is an awful design flaw...I had to ask the person taking our order multiple times to repeat themselves, and they had to ask me to do the same... then as you disperse into the "lounge and hang" areas the music gets quieter. Everything else was incredible and I mean it!! Friendly staff, great food, amazing house made pickles and pastrami...my god...pure awesomeness. But if you want an honest audio professionals opinion.. thats it.. Great food, great service, be prepared to repeat your order at near barking...
