For most restaurants, the impetus for negative reviews is much greater than leaving positive reviews because when patrons are disgruntled they have an ax to grind & they want to vent. With that said, I've been going to the Silk Thai for 15+ years & have always been pleased with the cuisine quality/selection, the service & the atmosphere. Unfortunately, their modus operandi has taken a turn for the worse.
Last night some friends & I dined there & when a friend & I both ordered Mango Sticky Rice, we both requested extra coconut milk, as many places don't give enough unless you ask for more. Upon receiving our desserts, we noticed there was actually LESS than typical. I looked @ the waitress & facetiously stated, "Hey, we ordered more, not less coconut milk." She smiled & said, "Sorry, but we had a very busy night." I looked around & replied, "There are only two other tables occupied." She said they are closing the kitchen. I know Sukie the owner/chef, so I went to the kitchen to request a side of coconut milk & she mumbled something I couldn't even discern...
Sure, we have our "off days" but when you run a service business, you do not let that keep you from providing the best service possible- especially when the owner knows that a 15+ year patron has switched countless people from other Thai restaurants to hers and said patron has a legitimate request/problem. I went back to my table & told my three friends, "This place is not what it used to be & The Royal Thai or Indochine have par food & BETTER service..."
PS: I know how to make excellent Mango Sticky Rice & trust me, it would have been easy peasy to whip up a side of sweetened...
Read moreThis was my first time here, takeout. The inside is beautiful!! Great atmosphere!! Called on Friday night at 6:30 pm , place an order for cashew chicken and a scoop of rice. They said 30 min. I arrived and gathered at the entry was a group of 4 people, a group of 2 , and myself. I assumed since no one’ was helping anyone the other people had been greeted and were just waiting for their food and table. What like 5 min someone addressed the group of 4 as they hadn’t been helped. Finally took them into the dining area and sat. After another 5 min the 2 top group was helped and seated. Now understand the place was busy, phone non stop ringing, bagging food, etc. However , a simple acknowledgement and “I’ll be right with you” goes a long way. You don’t ignore people for that long!! I had noticed a bag sitting in the window early on , turned out to be my food. It there ready for at least 10 min the whole time I stood there! My total for cashew chicken and a small thing of jasmine rice was $18.12. I thought that was more than a fair price as the place down the road is $25.
TASTE- well let’s just saw it wasn’t good. It was the strangest cashew chicken I’ve ever had. It was extremely sweet. Like a sweet Marsala chicken. There was so much sauce it was like a soup. It was gross.
Please note my review is based only on one item. The service was bad , the gentleman that took my order over the phone was very nice, as well as the gentleman that checked me out.
Would I return? I plan to go inside and try the satay chicken and peanut sauce, if they can’t do that well than they have...
Read moreThis is a really lovely Thai place. The guy that works up front is very passionate about the place, he took the time to not only ask how we found out about this place, but also how we felt about the place and its food when we left. The waiter seemed a little nervous, but he made up for it with how attentive and kind he was. The food itself was good, not the best Thai I’ve ever had, but definitely something I’d enjoy coming back to. I got the Spicy Chicken and Basil, which I had had in other places before. It wasn’t as good as other places, in my opinion, but it was still good and spicy. My mom got Terriyaki Chicken, which I think was my favorite of the things we got. Very flavorful, and it came with a salad which I didn’t personally try, but she said was very good. My brother got the Dan Dan Noodles, which weren’t my thing because I don’t like peanuts, but even so I can say it was rather pleasant. The noodles were the perfect texture. I also got mango juice, which was delicious. I might be biased since I love mangos, but it tasted fresh. Kind of felt like someone squeezed a mango into my cup and didn’t do anything else to it, unlike the mango juice you get where they’ve added sugar or milk to make it “better” (not referring to the Indian mango drink, lassi, which is a whole other thing that I also enjoy). Oh yeah, and we got the Veggie Rolls as an appetizer. Nothing crazy, just spring rolls, but they were very good. They came with what I think was duck sauce as well, which I love. Overall I’d say this place is definitely recommend by me, and we will be...
