So, I"m going to start by saying that we had no idea that this restaurant was such a hoity toity establishment..although, I was confused with the linen tablecloths being lined with a sheet of brown paper on top. Are you upscale or crabshack shanty? We weren't the only ones in shorts, tee shirts and sandals, but were definitely the minority. The prices here are EXHORBITANT. WOW. The average plate was $27 for what I thought was a very small portion of food. Let's break this down. We ordered black bean cakes and the presentation looked like a pile of human waste plopped with sour cream and salso on it. The cakes had no shape, nothing..most cakes are shaped like a cake, almost like a burger. These wee flat as pancakes, irregular on the edges. Flavor? Bland beans. No amount of salt/pepper could have redeemed them. Then, the huge platter for these little bitty bean cakes, just a bit too overwhelming. I get better black bean cakes at run of the mill commercial chain restaurants, like Chili's or Chueys. $10. Thumbs down. The Bangers and Mash was ok. Sausage tasted pretty run of the mill and the mash potatoes were literally, three heaping table spoons, about 5 bites. Was this suppose to be a dinner plate or a small plate? It was served on this enormous plate that made the meal look that much more tiny. $27. Thumbs down. The FGF Mackin Cheese was truly amazing. Wow. I've never had anything like it, with the collard greens and bacon, but oh man..$20 for mac n cheese. I still give it a thumbs up. The salads were lacking in substance and dressing. Dry. My FGF Maison, house salad had 4 pecans in it, two dabs of goat cheese and about a small handful of shaved apple. It def needed more dressing. What's with the salad that looks and feels like its weeds picked from out back in the yard ?? $9. Thumbs down. Lastly, we were expecting bread at the table. Nope. So we asked for bread and the waitress brought out 3 little biscuits, honestly, they looked like the were right out of a freezer, with three little balls of butter in this gigantic tray. Opened the biscuit...it was cold inside. So when the waitress came back, we told her that the biscuits were not very good and that they were cold. Her response: "Yeah, they aren't very good". WHAT??? No, I'm sorry, may I get you fresh ones? Or, Let me ask the kitchen for some more. Nothing. I forgot to check the bill to see if we were charged for these...my guess is that yeah, we probably did. My Tiramus cheesecake was good, but again, it tasted packaged, from a box. I've had better cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory for half the price. $12. Thumbs down.
Overall, this place, in my opinion, has a long way to go to be considered a legit candlelight, linen tablecloth, art on the wall, upper crust establishment. You never get a second chance to make a first impression and after a whopping bill of $136 dollars for 3 (one of us didn't order a dinner, just a small plate), I'll better spend my money at Texas Roadhouse where the rolls are fresh and hot and the steaks look a lot better than the ones that my neighbor table was eating.
Sorry.
And by the way....it's a big red flag when an establishment refuses to respond to a negative review or respond to an email. I emailed the manager with my displeasure. Heard...
Read moreI was only going for dessert!
This is the third time that I have been to Food Glorious Food, but only the first time I have dined in. As a matter of fact, I only new of the bar and dessert area. So this was an amazing treat! The atmosphere was very inviting. After getting over the shock of being in the actual restaurant, I began to look at the menu. All of the offerings sounds amazing. I had only planned for dessert, so opted for a couple the small plate options and wedge BLT salad. After reading the menu over and over again. I decided on the fried quail and the smoke tuna dip. UH OH! I have failed to mention, Haley! Haley was my wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable, and attentive server. She helped guide me to the selections. She was amazing and very personable. She made the dining experience that much more. The wedge salad was more than enough for two people. Everything was fresh. The bacon was so amazingly good that I almost made my vegan server rethink her life choices, because I made the bacon sound so good. The Bacon did not need my help. I was told by Virginia another server that was friendly and helpful, that she adds the bacon to most everything that she eats there. Next up! The quail was delicious! The breading was flavorful without being over powering. It was succulent, tender and surprisingly filling. It was served over a spinach and mushroom reduction. It was an experience. However, the star of the evening...THE FULL EXPERIENCE, the smoked tuna! Served over Lavosh crackers, it was simple a masterpiece of perfection. I couldn't imagine anything being better. I was told that the sell out everytime they have it. I see why! OH MY GOODNESS! After such a wonderful treat and great service I asked to speak to a manager. The general manager, Jamie came to the table expecting to have to deal with a problem, but walked into a praise instead. I expressed that I only brought appetite of dessert, but was happy I found room for more. He was personable and happy to hear that my experience was great!
Finally, the dessert! This is what I have known the place for. My last trip I bought 5 different desserts. My waistline can prove it. Today it was the red velvet cake and the Cinnamon roll bread pudding with a coffee drizzle. Confectionary delights!!!!! I am looking forward to my next...
Read moreI have been to FGF a few times to pick up dessert but had never dined here until tonight when my coworkers and I saw the horribly long line at 4 Rivers, so we decided to come here instead. I love their desserts and have always enjoyed when restaurants have a rotating menu so I was very excited to eat a full meal here.
Everything on the menu looked great and we were seated immediately upon our arrival. There were several other tables in the restaurant besides ours but initially it didn't prove problematic.
We ordered our food -- one of us got the gnocchi and soup, another got the bangers and mash and I opted for the peppered tuna.
This is about where the pleasant experience ended. We waited for nearly an hour and a half for our food which is honestly unacceptable to me. Our waitress told us several times that our food "would be ready in a few minutes," so imagine how irritated I was when a few minutes turned into 10 minutes, then 20 then half an hour.
The manager came over to our table and apologized, BUT then made up an excuse for the horrible wait. "We just are so busy tonight as you can see!" Yes, I can see you're busy, but that's no excuse to make patrons wait forever for their food. Managers shouldn't make excuses like that. It was almost like she was blaming us for not realizing how busy it was. Our server reiterated the busy comment too which was doubly annoying. Everyone at my table was irritated.
As far as the food went, it was actually pretty great. The flavors were perfect on my tuna and the blue cheese/mushroom mix was delicious.
I was so perturbed by the manager and the service though that I would be incredibly hesitant to come back. The manager didn't even give us a discount or offer us free drinks or anything despite the fact that we were waiting for TWO hours for our food.
I would give this place one more shot and then if the service is truly awful I will not hesitate for a second to dock this place down another star.
Their desserts are amazing so maybe just come for that? The poor service and excuses for their setbacks is enough for me to not readily recommend this...
