I checked on my app before flying and since I'm not familiar with bus shuttles. I called the hotel and see how it works before arriving. The person on the line was very helpful and said everything is 24/7 and just have to call when you're at Blue 1 or Red 1 where the hotel shuttles are at the airport. I arrived at the TPA around midnight. I called the hotel for someone to get me. The gentleman said to meet at Blue 1. So I did. One bus came and the driver asked which hotel. I wasnt sure so i checked my app again to reconfirm. But when I opened my app, I couldn't find my reservation. Then i opened my email and found my reservation was canceled. I panicked. I called the hotel and the gentleman was not sure what was going. He told me to rebook and i tried but the price was alot higher when i booked the first time. He said maybe credit card did not have enough funds so that may be the reason why it canceled. While I was talking to him, the driver (Mark) was here to get me. I told him what happened while I was still on the phone with guest services. I didn't know what to do. So I asked the front desk if he could help me when I get to the hotel since I still need a room. He said sure. Mark saw me panicking and said to rest assure. They are good at these things and they will figure out away to solve it. They always do. And sure enough, when I got to the hotel. The front desk reconfirm my stay and for how long and gave me the same price I originally paid for. And when he asked me to pay. I used the same card that was on file and funny it went through. I was upset but I know it's not the front desk fault. So off to the room, I went.
While I was walking, the first thing I noticed. The hallway pass the breakfast lounge stank and after you make the turn to the elevator. The smell went away. Still disgusting. Just want to throw up.
My room looks legit. I made to check around before going to make sure there's no one suspicious. Everything was safe so I put my bags down and got the shower ready. I also made sure there was a sign outside for do not disturb. I turn the handle for the shower and waited for a few minutes for it to get hot. I thought there was no hot water when clearly I the nob was on the side with the H (on the right) so I decided to turn it on the C (cold) side. And sure enough, it got hot real quick. I showered and went to bed. The Ac was loud. I know the hotel is quite old so I understood that it's not all perfect. The thermostat said automatic. But it was on for an hour. Like what kind of automatic is this. I clearly cannot sleep through this. I called the front desk to see if there's anything he can do when I told him all that had happened. He was kind enough to checked and said he can give me another room. The app cannot process the key fast enough. So I had to go down to grab another key to the next room on the same 5th room. It's already 2:30 am. I'm tired. I went to my next room. It was better. Much more quiet. There was no sign outside so I couldn't put do not disturb. So I locked my doors and went to bed. This morning I went to breakfast and it's really good. But after breakfast, the hallway to and from the elevator. Omg. The smell. It didn't go away. I wanted to throw up after. What a moment I had so far, and it's my first time in Tampa for a retreat. I hope no more juju happens to me. But overall, the staffs have been amazing and accommodating for a solo...
Read morePrecursor to the review, I am an avid traveler and have stayed in many Hampton inns and other hotels in the past. This one, to my dismay, was by far the worst and has also made me question whether to stay with Hampton Inns in the future.
TL;DR (too little; didn't read) version is as follows (full review underneath)
After the first cockroach, we played it off as "oh that's just Florida for you." After the second cockroach, we thought that Florida really had it in for us. After the fourth and the fifth one, it turned into a March of the Roaches narrated by yours truly.
Full Review: Checking into the hotel went smoothly and even setting our things down before we went to see the town. Once we came back and turned on the lights to our room (4th floor) we saw a huge palmetto cockroach in the middle of the floor sprinting it's way to freedom. We fought a valiant battle and unfortunately the roach had to part with life this day. After the uneasiness of the first roach set in, I went around the room just double checking that there was not any more. Lo' and behold, once I lifted up the sheets of the bed, another one scuttled its way towards the door, unfortunately to also meet its end. After the second one, we called the front desk to have them just come spray the entrance to our door so that more roaches do not feel tempted to make our room a base camp.
After calling the front desk, I kept searching and found another one coming from the same place as the previous one; this "little" guy made it to freedom past the door and outside into the rest of the hotel. Now that there were several roaches that I had found (my girlfriend was keeping post on top of the bed surveying the room very bravely) I realized that our items were left open in the room when we went to go and explore the town (yay!). As I was checking a bag that we had with some sweets, another cockroach manifested itself on top of my things. With all of my brave man-strength, I took the bag and the cockroach and threw it out.
An employee of the hotel came by shortly after to spray the roach spray, but it was too late. We decided that we could not spend the night in a room that was infested with roaches nor in the same hotel because as we all know more than a few roaches in Florida in a single spot means a larger scale infestation is taking place.
I would highly recommend against staying here because what would be worse than being woken up in the middle of the night to hearing a cockroach scuttering across the room in the middle of the night or worse....finding that there is a nice little present waiting for you in your bag once you come home...
Read moreMy family and I stayed at this hotel located at 4817 W Laurel St., Tampa, FL, from February 20-22, 2025 (Room 525).
On February 22nd, at approximately 6:40 AM, an unknown white male attempted to forcefully open multiple doors in the hallway, including ours. This was extremely distressing, especially as we were traveling with our 8-month-old child, and our family's safety was gravely compromised.
My husband immediately contacted the front desk to report this alarming incident. Holly, the front desk attendant, appeared bewildered and offered a lackluster response by merely dispatching security. Vlad, the security officer, arrived and shockingly only asked the individual if he was okay. Without verifying his identity, Vlad left, leaving us feeling utterly vulnerable.
Dissatisfied, my husband urged Holly to call the police. Instead, Vlad returned and inexplicably opened Room 523 for the man without confirming his identity. This gross negligence and disregard for guest safety is unacceptable.
Feeling increasingly threatened, my husband demanded a room change. Holly dismissively attributed the man's behavior to intoxication and assured us he was "sleeping it off." She then informed us we would need to pack up and wait until 2 or 3 PM for a new room. This was outrageous, given the circumstances. We decided to book a different hotel for the last night in Tampa to ensure our peace of mind.
Around 11:45 AM, Holly called to inform us that a room on another floor was available, but we declined due to the complete lack of care and professionalism demonstrated.
We are appalled by the service and security of this hotel. This experience has severely tarnished our perception of Hampton Inn and raises serious questions about your safety measures and staff training.
We sent multiple emails about this incident almost a month ago and have gone unanswered. Very disappointed in the level of empathy...
