This place is so poorly managed to Chris. The manager was about as rude as you possibly could get and about as useful as a. Frog on a log. My daughter and I ordered one roll and four Sashimi. After waiting for fifteen minutes I checked on my order they shooed me away and said they will bring it to me.
After waiting a total of thirty minutes I checked on my order and the manager still didn't know where the roll was. Meaning he'd never checked on my order knowing that there was a concerned customer waiting for her food. I don't know why it took thirty minutes for 1rolltobemade. I don't know why the manager was not making sure that the orders were on time. When I expressed dissatisfaction for waiting 30 minutes for one roll. He never apologized he never checked on the order; he had no idea of the status. Basically he was a hostess not a manager. It was so condescending he embarrassed me in front of the other people eating dinner. He did not show that he valued me as a customer which makes me feel as though he doesn't feel valued as an employee. The place smelled Very fishy. Maybe the manager needs to go and get some management training instead of standing. There like a hostess laughing at paying customers who tip over twenty percent. I will never go back.
So after waiting 30 minutes they threw my food in the bag and gave it to me. I said here's your food. They only gave us one chopstick even though I was sharing it with my daughter. The food was discussing the atmosphere was okay and the management was absolutely the worst ever.
I'm hoping this was just an isolated incident but I was late picking up my son from his lesson because it took Over thirty minutes. Maybe this is more of like an uber place I don't know but there's definitely better sushi out there and there's a lot of Competition so the management really needs to get their head straight. And chris the manager needs to Remember which direction the money goes and be respectful to...
ย ย ย Read moreThe wife and I have been frequent customers since Kelp opened, and we considered it the humble gem of sushi in Tampa. It was reasonably priced, the food was excellent, and the menu was exceptional - especially since the mrs is a leaf eater. However, recent changes have left us wanting.
The new menu just doesn't add up. Prices have risen. Nearly all of the former vegetarian options have been removed. Friday evening when we stopped in, they had no tofu - a sushi joint that has no tofu, on a Friday night. The roll options have been limited and the rolls that are left are unimaginative on the whole. The miso doesn't taste as good as it used to either. After finding out about the tofu shortage we walked out, and we were both sad about it.
Twice now (the last being last Friday evening) we've been in and had the same server; a tall, thin, younger woman with blonde hair, lack of politeness, and poor disposition. Both times she wore mannerisms and had a tone that suggested we were an inconvenience for being there. We're approached with "What do you want," verbatim, with an upward inflection. The last time we were in, we had to approach her for the bill and to get the bill processed after having to wait for her social group at the register to disperse. She is not a good server and really shouldn't be interacting with customers. Poor judgement call by management there.
The new menu is underwhelming. It feels more like they're trying to shift to trends rather than excellent food. And the service has been subpar recently. I really resisted reviewing the last time we were in, but after Friday night I'm dropping one. We used to recommend Kelp over even Samurai Blue....
ย ย ย Read morePlace has really gone downhill. Living very close to KELP, my husband and I were delighted the first time we ate there a couple of years ago and found it to be delicious. Since then, things have slowly changed. The service has gotten poorer and poorer, and the quality of the food has tanked. We've consistently ordered the same items and not just observed a difference in presentation and overall taste, but it honestly seems like, in an effort to save cost, they have moved toward cheaper, lower quality ingredients. We usually love the chicken donburi bowl which used to be excellent, but the last couple of times, the chicken was on par with really crappy mall Chinese food quality. Very little [crappy] meat with far too much breading. Tonight, I ordered from UberEATS and received crab rangoon (which I suspect may be frozen since it has changed considerably since last I had it] that had no sauce and had tin foil stuck all over it??? And my sushi roll was covered in roe, which was not listed as an ingredient on the menu... I don't eat roe so was unable to eat it. I double-checked the menu just to be certain I wasn't wrong, and it clearly says absolutely nothing about tobiko. May seem like minor things, but my overall impression is that this place really just can't keep up. They are almost never busy when we go there, and so I'm inclined to believe that they are seeking to save cost and hopefully save their business.. Unfortunately when you cut quality, things usually don't work out. I've given this place a VERY fair shot, and I'm sad to say at this point I won't...
