Opening four months ago, the Desert Spot at Toffee to Go on Bay to Bay Boulevard is becoming a neighborhood favorite. At first glance one might wonder if another coffee and dessert shop is necessary with Starbucks just doors away. What they may not know is many of the food items our pact with the sweet goodies from its parent company Toffee to Go. In 2013 Oprah Winfrey chose the toffee as one of her favorites. Combine that with the fact that the pastries are baked by Chef Sharon Nasrallah ( they call her Chef Nas) and you may want to give it a try. The interior is very café like. It is centered by a marble counter offering the aforementioned pastries, Kahwa coffee of several varieties, Working Cow ice cream, and Mike's pies. On the left is a merchandising area and on the right tables and chairs for dining in or doing some work with the free Wi-Fi. On my visit I ordered the Coffee Toffee cake ($2.95), an item not listed on the menu. It is a thick slice of light Bundt sized cake swirled with pecans and toffee and drizzled with their house toffee dessert sauce. I've had this creamy buttery syrup before. It's made with heavy whipping cream and it is divine. In the freezer there are 10 different colorful varieties of Working Cow ice cream, 3-4 of which are made with the house toffee. Macaroons and Mike's pies fill out the dessert list. According to their general manager Courtney Schalk, daughter of Toffee to Go owners, they hope to have a grand opening...
Read moreI went today as I usually go to get dessert for my friends and I and the blonde-haired girl from the back came out texting on her phone and completely ignored me in line to greet her friends and take their order. I then explained that I was next and asked for 3 slices of the cake to-go and she gave me 2 fresh pieces of the new cake and 1 pre-cut, pre-packaged slice that she stated was from an old cake. The guy that worked there then interjected that the cake slice was actually from a fresh one this morning. So now I’m confused about whether I got an old freezer slice or fresh one. I asked why I couldn’t 3 fresh pieces from the new cake instead of 2 from the new one and one old slice. They ignored me and stated it was fresh. The blonde-haired girl rolled her eyes and then went to talk to her friends. I walked out, but I accidentally left my keys. I guess everything happens for a reason because I witnessed the two attendees making fun of me with the customers and when I walked in, the room got quiet. I really enjoyed coming in every two to three days to pick up desserts for my friends and I but if the service will be that nasty, I will look elsewhere. I did not feel welcome and will not be coming back. Desserts are great, customer service less than ideal (at...
Read moreToffee To Go is adorable, quaint and has delicious dessert & coffee options.
This place is worth the sugar overload. They had a lot of dessert bars to choose from, as well as cake and ice cream. The cake had some unique flavors like key lime and pumpkin for seasonal which is fun.
We tried the cookie butter dessert bar and it was melt in your mouth, sweet but not too sweet, smooth and so good. It was almost like a cheesecake texture and the cookie butter taste was perfect. Just so good.
We tried a cold brew that came with a cold foam, it was strong but with a good mix of flavor, and the foam was the best part by far. Don’t even get me started on the toffee- they have 3 kinds- milk, white and dark chocolates with different types of crushed nuts. We got the milk chocolate and it did not last long. I’ll be dreaming about that toffee for a while, and will be back again for it.
Fortunately the owners came into the shop towards the end of our visit. They were the sweetest couple, so genuine you could just feel that had kind souls. The workers were all super nice too.
The shop is nice to sit and enjoy the delights, and there is outdoor seating too. Toffee To Go & More offers so much more beyond the desserts- it’s an overall experience just as sweet...
