I didn't want to write this review about this restaurant, but I must caveat off another patron's one-star review. I've once visited this restaurant and deemed it an excellent establishment on the way to quickly becoming one of Tampa's hidden gems. The service was always prompt, the staff was friendly, and the food was consistently delicious. However, tonight changed my once glowing perception of this restaurant to that of a mediocre and unprofessional atmosphere. I placed a to-go order on the way home from running errands and waited outside for a while. I returned to pick up my to-go order only to be told that my debit card didn't "go through." I checked my account and showed one supervisor that the transaction was processed. He dismissed the hard copy of the transaction from my bank account and disagreed with the representative on the phone about the transaction. He told me he didn't see the transaction process on his computer and even wanted me to go behind the counter to check his computer. I told him I didn't want to go behind the counter to view the computer and wanted to know the resolution. He then told me that the transaction was pending and that he could not do pending. The representative from my bank even told him that funds take time to settle and reassured him that the money was deducted from my account for the original bill. She was puzzled and didn't understand why he said I didn't pay for the food when deducted from my account. I explained to him that pending transactions usually settle within a few hours or days, depending on the merchant. He then wanted me to pay again to settle the entire ordeal. I politely told him I wouldn't do that because I would pay double for one meal. He became increasingly agitated towards me and began screaming at someone on the phone behind the register in another room. Once again, I explained it to him in layman's terms once he cooled down. If I sat down and ate at this establishment and wrote down a tip for a waitress, the receipt of payment would show pending because the tip had yet to be tallied up for the final bill amount. It went over his head completely, which is unsettling because if you run a restaurant, you should know the ins and outs of transactions. He then requested a picture of my transaction from my bank, which freaked me out on all levels. He got a picture with all sensitive information removed to show the deducted amount. This experience disappointed me, and I wonder if I'll return to this restaurant. Honest and hardworking people...
Read moreI came here because of Mr.Tampa.Bay I wanted to try it out for myself and see if it truly was as good as he said. HE WAS NOT WRONG. This place was amazing and I’m saying because I been to the other two similar restaurants in the area which are really good but this one beats all of them.
First thing the place is really beautiful and I love the art hanging from the ceiling also there was like a light bar next to our table which was really good. Our server was amazing she was quick efficient and very friendly. Also props to the manager (I think it was the manager) he was running up and down with the servers to keep a steady flow of food and I love a manager that supports their team. I wasn’t a fan of the music but nothing to complain about.
The food was amazing we ordered a lot. Spicy crab salad and Green mussels were my top 2 just because I wasn’t expecting the mussels to be hot and cheesy it was so good. Then my favorite sushi was the shogun sushi it was amazing. My usual concern about all you can eat places is that they mess up the basics like fried rice or noodles. NOT IN HERE THEY DIDNT that fried rice and noodles were absolute bomb super simple yet delicious and that was the thing that I was convinced was not going to be good. Also the yellow Thai curry was amazing too I was happy to see they have pad thai but I didn’t order it this time I’m saving it for next time. Sadly they were out of the tempura cheesecake but that’s also coming up next because I am definitely coming back here again and I’m gonna make sure that everyone I like gets a taste of this place.
Congrats on whoever owns this place because you did a...
Read moreHit-or-Miss Experience with a Huge Menu Shogun Sushi offers an extensive selection, ranging from sashimi to hibachi to even pad Thai—which is impressive for an all-you-can-eat sushi spot. With such a broad menu, you’re bound to find something you enjoy, but you’re also likely to encounter some disappointing dishes along the way. The Highs: Surprisingly, the hibachi is solid, and the pad Thai is actually pretty good—which is shocking, considering most Thai restaurants in the area can’t seem to get it right. I’ve been to plenty of AYCE sushi spots in Tampa Bay, and this is the only one I’ve seen that even attempts pad Thai, let alone does a decent job. The Lows: Unfortunately, the sushi and sashimi are where things fall apart. Their sashimi is sliced way too thick.. Worse, they leave their fish sitting out, which ruins the freshness. Take a look at my pics—you’ll see a crust forming on the escolar from being left uncovered. Not appetizing at all. And then there’s the Naruto roll (also pictured)—a total disaster. It falls apart the second you try to pick it up, and the flavors just don’t work. Definitely a big swing and a big miss. Final Verdict: A 3 out of 5—not the worst AYCE sushi place in Tampa Bay (that title belongs to Koizi), but far from the best (Umami in St. Pete takes that crown, in my opinion). The massive variety is nice, but by trying to do too many things at once, they sacrifice quality on several dishes. If you go, stick to the hibachi and pad Thai—and maybe skip...
