Schoony's Malt Shop and Pizzeria — Restaurant in Taylors Falls

The ice cream was good, but that's it. Horrible service. When we first got there my 4 year old urgently needed to use the bathroom, so we waited outside the locked bathroom for 10 minutes. We knocked on the door and asked the employee if there was a key. She repeatedly told us that someone was in there and we would need to wait. We ended up ordering our ice cream while we waited- that was another fiasco. As unorganized as they were, they sure were worried that my husband didn't pay for his ice cream cone, even though we were very specific in telling them which items we had ordered and would like to pay for. The ice cream was good, although I had a difficult time eating mine before it melted because my 2 year old kept finding dirty spoons and cigarette butts on the ground that he wanted to put in his mouth.... While we were eating we noticed a woman with a baby standing in line outside the bathroom to get in an change her baby. No luck for her either. Really, someone was in the bathroom for 25 minutes? When we were done with our ice cream we all managed to have sticky fingers. We again stood in line for the bathroom and knocked on the door. No luck. My husband noticed a utility sink in the back, around the corner from the bathroom and went to rinse his hands in that. The employees quickly scolded him and yelled at him to get out of there and use the bathroom instead. We asked if we could just use their sink and they advised us to go to the gas station down the street where there was a "public bathroom". As we left we muttered under or breaths "we won't be back here again". Apparently they heard us because then one employee told the other "just unlock it". The other employee unlocked the bathroom and we were able to use it. Perhaps the reason it was locked was because it was filthy and out of soap. Who knows. UPDATE: Because of advancing medical technology my son is now able to wear a full body mask which is fortunately able to enter the business. While the ice cream was good, as were the malts, the bottled soda was served slightly too cold for my son, who has special needs and requires his drinks to be served at the right temperature. I will change the review from the original two stars to three.

I and my son who has special needs tried to solicit service from this establishment after a nice hike at the nearby state park. Due to my son's special needs we were unable to enter the establishment as my son is forced medically to live in an inflatable hermetic bubble. As it was very hot and my son was sweating from the greenhouse effect we really wanted to cool off in air conditioning with gluten free Ice cream. However, unlike many ice cream shops we've visited in the past, the doors were only single wide and we could not squeeze my son through the single doors. When I asked the proprietor if he had any lubricant to help squeeze my son through the door, he simply grumbled and refused to provide my son with any lube. Despite the sweat which was puddling in the bottom of the bubble due to the heat, he told us to drive to the dairy Queen if we wanted Ice cream. I have no idea how such an unfriendly business can keep running... Your guess is as good as mine since we were not able to to sample any ice...

Walked in, and the place was moderately busy. Beautiful atmosphere. I ordered myself a 2 scoop bowl of ice cream. I wanted 1 scoop of blueberry, and one other flavor, I had yet to decide on. An older gentleman serving the ice cream had no time for me, and my 2 flavor shenanigans. He served me up 2 scoops of blueberry. When we tried to explain I'd like 2 flavors, he frustratedly muttered something under his breath about how they don't do multiple flavors. But he was so panicked by the few people in line behind me, that he removed the second scoop of ice cream, and asked what other flavor I wanted 3 times inside of 10 seconds. Rushed, I randomly picked, and ended up with a second flavor I didn't really want. Some kind of cake batter flavor.

Both my scoops were good ice cream. Even the flavor I didn't actually want.

But my fiance got the strawberry and it was not creamy at all. It tasted like it was freezer burnt.

Normally, I'd have addressed the issues immediately, but I'm on vacation. The older gentleman seemed so frustrated, I really didn't want any additional negativity or a confrontation.

I've heard so much good about this place. This was a real disappointment. I know every place has an off day, but... I would not return any time soon.

If staff read this, please talk to the older gentleman about his patience with customers. I might try again, but not while...
