I'm a person who doesn't write reviews. I had such a bad experience with my cake and the customer service at Cakes by Edith bakery that I actually remembered to write this review.

Last Friday, I picked up a cake for my mother's birthday and purchased a couple of sparklers. The cake looked similar to how I had requested it so I was content with how it looked. While eating the cake, all of my family and I tasted a very bitter taste. The bitterness didn't wash down with neither milk or water. The best way I can describe it is it tasted like chemicals! I became concerned about it having expired ingredients or if something had been, accidentally, added into the cake mixture. It had been our first time using sparklers and we, originally, thought the taste was because of the ashes from these. We began tasting the cake little by little and found out that it was the dark colored frosting on top of the cake that had a dripping down effect.

I called the bakery and reached out to the manager by phone. She said that, sometimes, the frosting can be bitter, especially if it is of a dark color. She also mentioned that they let their customers know about the possibility of their cake tasting "a little bitter " because of the color. Listen, I WAS NOT INFORMED ABOUT MY CAKE FROSTING, POSSIBLY, TASTING LIKE CHEMICALS AT ALL! Had they informed me of this, I would have never purchased my cake here! Nowhere in the order slip do they inform people of their cake frosting tasting like chemicals or being a "little bitter" because of the darkness of it. They refused to give me a refund or any credit. Without a reasonable solution, the manager suggested that I take the frosting off myself as if that is how I wanted to celebrate my mother's birthday. Their cakes are pricier and I gave a small tip wit h this order. I was disappointed as I expected better customer service than this.

Even after removing the frosting off, it still gave us a bitter taste. That's how strong the chemical bitter taste was as it just remained in our mouths! We threw the cake away.

The next day, I was so sick with diarrhea all day long. My husband puked and my mother's partner had both of these symptoms. Both of them had eaten this cake too. I cannot say with utmost certainty that it was the cake, but the chemical taste of it is easier to remember than not and I still believe this had something to do with how sick we were that same night and the day after.

I used to buy Mexican bread from Cakes by Edith all the time and now, I will no longer buy from them. I do not recommend this place at all! When they are at fault for a cake that is of poor quality in taste, they are not accountable nor do they offer a reasonable or...

On Saturday I picked up a cake for my girls party and it was not what I ordered. I called the next day to talk to a manger but she wasn’t there, I was told to call back Tuesday between 10-3pm so I did and what a great disappointment that was. First the girls that answered the phone told me the manager wasn’t there when I asked for her but she magically appeared after I told her that I was calling to make a complained about my order. After she got on the phone I told the owner that I had placed an ordered for a marble cake with strawberry filling a week prior and That I had received a cake with two layers of chocolate cake and one layer of vanilla— not marble — and only one layer had strawberry jam filling not fresh strawberries at all like I clearly requested. The owner Instead of acknowledging the mistake, she refused to take any responsibility and even mocked me when I asked for accountability. I paid $67 dollars for an 8 inch cake, it didn’t have any decorations at all. I expressed that I didn’t think it was fair that I ordered something and it wasn’t delivered. She asked me if someone had called me to tell me that they didn’t have those flavors. First, that should have never been a problem that’s why I ordered the cake in advanced i didn’t go pick up a cake from their cooler the day of. I also made her away that it wasn’t the first time they had done this mistake and her answer was, “that if I ordered from them again it wouldn’t be the last time either”. I was honestly shocked by the lack of professionalism and basic customer care. She was extremely rude and tried to offer me a $20 credit that I could use with thin a month. I never asked for any refund or credit. I just wanted for her to acknowledge their wrong doing and apologize. She had the nerve to tell me, “oh that’s what you want to hear” thats when she mocked me and repeated what I said in a condescending tone. This was meant for a special occasion, and it was incredibly disappointing to deal with both a botched order and disrespectful customer service.

I’m sure they’re going to comment a response to this review saying they tried to work with me. But the extreme disrespect, lack of accountability isn’t trying to work with a customer, who at the end of the day are your...

This place just does whatever they want. I ordered my husbands birthday cake and it didn’t look like what I asked for but it was nice so I said cool whatever. What got me was when I ordered my daughter’s birthday cake. I asked for an ombré look and it looked nothing like ombré at all. I got past that but when my husband was picking up the cake I was on facetime and when he showed me how her name was written the hand writing was horrible.

I asked them multiple times if they could rewrite it. When I placed my order I wrote on the piece of paper how I wanted it written and it looked nothing like that. My husband pointed to the paper and told them I wanted it like that and the lady who originally took my order was the one who was going back and forth and she goes “if we’re being honest my handwriting looks better than hers” which it definitely didn’t but she didn’t like me criticizing the work. I told her “I don’t care what you think it’s not your cake”

One of the other girls rewrote it and it wasn’t the best but it was better than the before so I said whatever it’s fine. As my husband is going to pay the remaining balance they tell him “we don’t want it just go” and basically kicked him out. To top it off, when I placed my order my entire cake was supposed to be vanilla. We cut into it at the party and there was ice cream inside when we never once discussed ice cream. In the end the cake was gross, the whip cream tasted like perfume. None of the guest could even enjoy the cake we had to scrape all the whip cream off to even be able to eat any cake and ended up just throwing it away. I don’t know why they ask for details when they don’t follow anything you ask for.

I will never be going back here and will never recommend them to anyone. It seems to be a pattern with them and I should’ve known when they messed up my sisters wedding cake but it’s whatever,...
