Love their food!! Is usually really subpar. This last time, the service was so messed up it was comical!! So I'm going to the time because it should be a script for a comedy and I like comedy's, no malice intended. So, I ordered a grilled roast beef sandwich (checked all the boxes checked w provolone cheese and did not check mayo) from the owner mgr.everything on it but mayo. It's a sheet you check boxes on so even less room for mistakes, so one would think. I asked where do I specify where to write Grilled and she said " We have our own system, if we had the option "grilled" listed then everyone would want their sandwich grilled" " I just tell the cook." Called my name in less than 5 mins, sandwich wasnt grilled, but decided to eat it anyway, bit into and it had cheddar on it? I looked at my slip yep checked provolone. I better ask for them to fix this so I can enjoy my 15.00 meal. I went up to end of counter and waited to receive the most annoyed look from a different women behind the counter after standing there 3 mins or so (it wasnt busy) she yelled down to me "ya need something?' To which I replied " my sandwich was not grilled and it has cheddar and provolone. She came down, to m end of counter and asked "who took your order?: I handed her my slip to offer evidence of what I ordered, and said " I believe it was the owner". There was a name I couldnt make out written on the slip. She ignored the fact that provolone was checked and I was given cheddar and said "well, why didnt you circle grilled?" I was like huh? I'm sorry I didn't see it and asked the mgr asnshe said she just tells the cook. To which she said well you could have circled the '"grilled" of the grilled panini and drawn a line down to roast beef". At this point in was thinking whoa! She was either meant to be a debate team captain or is just stuck in ego mode, and she didn't even take my order. She took and gave it to cook. "Oh by the way I asked for the Arnold Palmer, so could I get some lemonade in this please? After about 5 mins owner came back out and asked me what I needed, 'just lemonade in the drink" and that I was waiting for my sandwich she said I could go sit down someone would bring it to me. So i went to sit, my butt hit the seat as my name was called out. Went and got my sandwich. ' looks delicious, perfect, thank you!" I was all smiles, sat down looked at my pickle and it was literally the size of a shriveled up French fry!! Sooo drye I honestly thought the cook may have given it to me for sending the sandwich back. Anyway bit into my sandwich and Now it had Mayonaise on it! LOL!! The one thing I had not checked.... I ate it anyway, I'm not allergic or anything was just trying to eat a bit healthier when I was going to throw my tray away I asked the owner who I almost bumped into if the pickles were dehydrated now. She looked right at it and again it was the size of a McDonald's French fry and the skin was curdled! And instead of offering me a replacement her reply was 'No, we just are cutting them a lot smaller now". I was shocked. Arnold Palmer had more ice than drink,so I asked for a refill (they offer free refills on the tea not sure about other fountain drinks). She added even more ice and couldnt put much of any fluid in that cup then. 'Its a little full, sorry." I walked out spilling tea on my hands and sleeves. This all happened a week ago. I swear 0 exaggeration and wish I had taken a picture of that pickle!! I felt like a character I Love Lucy ! Anyway, yummy pastries and sandwiches 2 out of 3 times I've visited. Just dont asked for grilled, the other time I did it was almost burnt and sourdough was so hard the roof of my mouth hurt the...
Read moreWe had never been here before, but I had read alot of reviews about this bakery/deli in Tehachapi. There were 4 of us so we bought quite a few different items to try.It is a pretty large place with lots of seating to include outdoor seating when it is nice. There is a parking lot just west of the store with what seems like a fair amout of parking but it can seem a little snug in there if you have a big truck.I recommend street also if you can find an opening on the bustling street in front of the store. You enter through the glass doors facing the street which are up the steps coming from the parking lot.Once we got into the store your senses immediately take in all that is in front of you, because there is alot going on especially if they are busy. The first thing you do is have EVERY member in your party grab a WHITE order sheet stuck in the middle of the tall tables as you enter the glass doors as it states on the bottom of said sheet "One sandwich per order".Fill it out and walk up to a server. Then you grab some pastries and a beverage. There are clearly some skilled bakers at this store. They have cheesecake, strudel, cookies, and many other tasty sweets. They also have a few savory bakes which I like. They have ham and cheese croissants and something with a German heritage called a Bierkopf. It is a big roll with meat and cabage. They also have this pepperoni pizza pie which looked intriguing, but we already had more than we could eat.I had myself a fine German beer since I wasn't driving. Most of the drinks you grab right at your knees, unless you are having a fine German beer as I had.You pay for your pastries and drinks, and go seat yourself at one of the MANY tables they have for seating.I could see it getting really crowded in there at peak hours,so you may want to have one hardy member in your party fill out his/her white sheet and pass it to the ordering member, and go score a table in advance.I am not sure how often they bus the tables, because you clean up your own table when done.We did find crumbs that we needed to wipe off our table, but it wasn't the end of the world. All the sandwhiches come with a bag of chips. There is a pickle wedge on your plate that you wont even know is there, unless you pick up the paper under your sandwhich.I found mine as I was cleaning up.Two of us ordered the grilled Reubens. One of us ordered the grilled Cubano. The forth ordered a turkey sandwich. The grilled sandwiches come on grilled crusty bread.I liked the reuben. It had alot of meat on it.It could have used a little more sauce.I kept thinking it might be a little dry.The Cubano was liked as well. The grilled sandwiches are of the level of crusty bread, that the skin on the roof of your mouth will remember it so be advised. The turkey sandwich came on a crusty roll as well, but wasn't grilled. All in all I like this place.I think they are very generous there with their portion size. The baked goods are awesome. The sandwiches are hearty, and the beer is cold. What more could you ask for.It is a nice sidetrip on the way past tehachapi, and it is worlds better than stopping at the truck stop or a chain burger joint. It is very easy to get to off the highway as...
Read moreI went to order dessert for my granddaughter's Sweet 16th birthday party. Had tried ordering in advance. However, the bakery was closed on Wednesday when I went over and found it closed. Forgot it was now closed on Weds & Thurs.
Unfortunately, the person making her birthday cake had a family emergency on Wednesday. Her 15 yr old son had been admitted into the hospital. I told her not to worry about it and stay with her son. I would just run to bakery and order dessert.
Since it was closed, I could not order in advance. I entered at 6am the day of her party(open now), I saw they had numerous éclairs, some already wrapped and others in the cooler plus tray on back counter and figured that would be the easiest thing to get, since they had plenty. I could cut in half for the number of people we were expecting and also get some brownies.
I was greeted by a young lady and asked if I could get 25 éclairs. The look and express she gave me spoke a thousand words. She was pissed and got the boxes and slammed them on the counter as she made them. She put the already wrapped ones in the boxes and maybe had to wrap 10. She complained to another employee about it, in front of me.
I wished she had asked why ordering so many and might have understood why I was ordering so many at the last minute. It wasn't like I was asking for a discount. Maybe she could have given me the same courtesy and understanding I gave my cake baker.
Unfortunately, we don't know what emergency arises in a person's life. I could have been a person with a death in family and need for food/dessert for members coming over. One never knows what curve ball life will throw you. However, we should treat people with kindness because we don't know what's happening in their life and why they are doing it.
I never asked for the brownies and went over to Walmart to get a few trays there. Even though it would now be one more stop. Didn't want to inconvenience the employee again. After all, I was just a paying customer.
I always go there and bring friends and family when visiting the area. However, this has put a bad taste in my mouth.
Everyone raved about the éclairs. They were 5 out of 5.. Food is always excellent. However, customer service...
