I had just came from North Cali to a Pho place my friend took me to and had an incredible pho soup. I was craving Pho when I got home and remembered a couple years back I got spicy beef dish at this local Vietnamese restaurant, sure enough with a quick type of google I remembered the name "Simply Vietnamese". I ordered delivery for their Pho Soup and boy was it disappointing. After combining all the parts of the pho that had been packaged separately and heating it up I took the first sip and knew this would be the last time I ordered any food from Simply Vietnamese. The Beef broth itself lacks much flavor, the beef is definitely overcooked and not of any high quality you'd expect a restaurant to use but something that resembles cheap supermarket quality. The noodles have no texture or bite and are not satisfying to eat at all. Even down to too many onions that add nothing to the broth except overwhelm the lackluster of flavor from the broth itself. I would not recommend this place to anyone. $13 dollars for a soup that tastes like a $5 dollar cheap all you can eat buffet line soup. I have no idea in the world how there are so many 5 star reviews. Many Bergen county residents have no idea about quality Vietnamese cuisine. I had better Pho in Northern Cali that cost $8, larger portion and blew this Pho away in every category you...
Read moreMy partner and I stopped by for dinner and it wasn’t very crowded. The service was quick and attentive: immediately after sitting, the staff brought out our waters and a bowl of shrimp chips.
I ordered the Banh Mi Sliders, which was plated creatively— basically your average pork banh mi cut into 4s instead of halves, with some pickled veggies on the side. It didn’t really taste like an authentic banh mi, but it was still really tasty. The mayo and hoisin sauce gave it sweet and rich flavors. Unfortunately, the pork itself was quite dry / rubbery. It would’ve also been nice if they had more options for the banh mi protein filling, including vegetarian options.
The bread also wasn’t a traditional French baguette (it tasted sweeter and was soft and pillowy rather than crispier) but was nonetheless delicious and provided for a nice texture and flavor profile. Overall, the bread and sauces were the highlight of this dish.
My partner ordered the Crispy Tofu entree, which was really good! The tofu and veggies were very flavorful and the tofu texture was really...
Read moreI moved here recently and because my family loves pho, I took them here. Surprised to find pho to be $15 a bowl. When we got the food, we did notice that the portion was not small and they give you a lot of meat. So that's good I guess. But the problem is that the soup was very bland. Also ordered lemongrass porkchop. $17 for the dish. Then they give you two large cuts of a good quality prokchop. I guess charge a lot and give good portion is the concept? The taste was not bad but not great.
Btw, not sure why they don't use proper pho meat... brisket for example.. and I guess they don't have a meat slicer??? I am confused........
There was a very noisy equipment sound in the dining area. We could not keep a conversation. The place was kept rather too warm. I found myself sweating while eating. Could be where we sat I guess. I write this review in hope that the place would consider these... I do want this place to get better so my family have a nearby place to have...
