Celebrity Hot Bagels & Deli — Restaurant in Tenafly

I was recommended this place through a family member who's a longtime Bergen county resident and decided to stop in today to try them out. As someone who's Jersey born and raised, I'm picky about my bagels and always want them to be thick, fluffy, and doughy. Texture is everything when it comes to good bagels, at least by my measure.

That said, I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese on a plain bagel, and it was pretty good! Bagel was nice, soft, and chewy, and the sausage was good, just could've been a bit thicker in my opinion. I'll be honest and say that it's definitely not the best bagel I've ever had in New Jersey, and the price point is rather high in my opinion ($7.75) because I can get the same sandwich at Eli's in Towaco, NJ for about $5 and change, but if you need a solid bagel, this is definitely a good choice.

As far as service goes, I had a pretty neutral experience, so I can't verify nor deny the multiple negative reviews claiming this issue. I called this order in and was able to place my pickup order pretty quickly after being placed politely on a brief hold, so no major hiccups or issues on that end. Upon actual pickup, the staff seemed relatively friendly if not a little indifferent, but no outwardly negative energy. I suppose this might depend on time of day and busyness though. They used to be the best and they lost a life long customer today and I’ll be sure to tell everyone in tenafly and cresskill what happened. They have a new kid there nice kid and he charged me the wrong amount so they decided they were gonna charge me another 4 dollars. She messed up my order completely, they were slow as could be with a line that formed behind me all because their machine takes 10 minutes to work and then they mess up the price and the lady yelled at the kid too yelled at him over 4 dollars. They’re nothing like they used to be and the food isn’t the same. Go to tenafly or cresskill hot bagels and they will charge you less give a better experience and probably would have honored the original amount I was charged because they are human. I used to buy 2 dozen bagels almost weekly for my staff, and often I’d be the only customer at 6:30 in the morning. I tried to make friendly conversation and even brought the owner face shields during the pandemic for his workers when he started wearing one, but he barely said a gruff word to me. I thought that was just his personality, until the day another customer came in while I was there and the owner suddenly came to life, greeting him heartily. The other man asked for a plain bagel, “give me a pale one.” The owner replied in a loud voice towards me, “You mean, pale and white, like the color of the skin on my face?!” And the two of them laughed and laughed.
