Axia Taverna — Restaurant in Tenafly

My husband and I used to come here regularly and brought friends—it was a go to spot. But this last visit was incredibly disappointing. We waited 15 minutes before anyone took our drink order, and when the wine finally came, both glasses tasted old and were undrinkable. Our server was rude and completely ignored us, even serving a large party that arrived after us first. After 25 minutes with no food order taken, we decided to leave to eat somewhere else.

We paid for the wine we didn’t drink and asked to speak to a manager—we were told he was in the office and not available. I left my number and asked for him to call me so I could share my experience. He never called. Instead of leaving a public review on Google I followed up on Instagram, but still never got a call. When I followed up again weeks later, I was told that “one bad experience shouldn’t change your opinion” and that the manager couldn’t offer anything, but I was welcome to speak to him if I came back.

As a restaurant owner myself, I find that kind of response unacceptable. No matter how good the food is, this is no longer a place...

The staff and owner here are unbelievably rude. We had reservations, but the hostess claimed there were no tables available downstairs. My parents have severe knee problems, so we asked if they could accommodate, and suddenly, she changed her story—saying we specifically reserved upstairs and there was nothing she could do. See the screenshot—there’s NO mention of an upstairs reservation because there isn’t even an option to choose where to sit when booking.

Let’s be real—this place just holds the downstairs tables for their friends and refuses to accommodate anyone else. The owner himself came over, we explained my parents knee issues and he said, not my problem. That tells you everything you need to know.

Funny enough, we had the exact same experience here two years ago—same nasty attitudes, same complete lack of customer service. We walked out this time. Won’t make the mistake of coming back a third time. Save your money—this place isn’t worth the price...

My experience at this establishment was pretty good; it caught me by surprise in a positive way. When I first arrived, I thought this would be one of those places that gives really small portions with high princes (Fancy). That was not necessarily the case. I got one of their appetizer specials, and the lamb burger for my main course. The burger was quite good, but a bit overdone. I ordered it medium, but it came out welldone. Not the end of the world because the flavor was there, but normally like my burgers a bit more juicy. They gave a very good amount of food with the order including fries which were very crispy. The tomato appetizer was a bit small, but I do not expect a huge portion out of an appetizer. I do wish this place offered a Gyro platter/wrap option as that is my usual go to dish in Greek restaurants. Despite this, I was overall satisfied...
