I have supported this business for 5 years. I have done countless advertising by introducing Smallcakes to family and colleagues at work, many of whom had NEVER heard of it.
The cupcakes are delightful and everyone whom I have introduced, often request them for work parties and events.
Today, I went to the store and purchased the 2-5pm special. 4 cupcakes for $14. I bought 2 boxes of the 4 for $14. My contribution to a work party for October birthdays.
Apparently, the young lady who helped me is new and was not aware that per the owner policy, you can only purchase one of the $4 for $14 deals. I had ALREADY paid the $30 for the 2 sets, and the cupcakes were already packaged.
The "manager" came to the register, held on to my bag and said that she had to refund my purchase and re-ring it in order to charge the full price of $18.00 for the second set. Now, what if that was the last $30 on my card? I would not have been able to make the purchase at all because I would have to wait for a refund to process(Just saying- that could be a thing.)
I asked the woman why not just give me my purchase, which was already packaged and paid for, and then explain the policy to the new employee. She said that this is the owner policy. I asked her, do you think that the owner would prefer to make a sale and have a happy customer or make no sale and have an angry customer? Besides, i could have easily asked someone else to come into the store and make the purchase for me. She ignored me, proceeded to issue a whole refund and then asked me if I want the cupcakes or not. I ended up purchasing one box because I was coming home from work and too tired to go elsewhere.
I was very annoyed and said that this is stupid because you're going through this whole trouble to refund a purchase for $4 more and ended up losing the $14. She said well, this is the owner policy not mine. I said well in this case it's discretionary because I already made the purchase. Why aggravate the situation? She indignantly called next in an attempt to dismiss me and then chided me with an insincere "have a nice daaaay"
I was very upset. It's $4, but it is the principle of the matter and the way the situation was handled. Furthermore after going to my car which was parked immediately in front of the store, she provokingly walked to the edge of the counter to wave at me and say goodbyee! What if I were not a level headed person who could not control my anger in that moment?
Again this is about the customer service which, is a dying thing in business in general and many owners and operators do not realize that they go out of business because it's not just about a product, it's the entire experience.
I actually gave this another shot because 3 years ago this same woman was rushing us out of the store and said she wants to go home too. I said maybe she was having a bad day but three years later, I still remember.
That's it - there's a spanish bakery along the 59 which seems like a family owned business with the best customer service ever! They sell cupcakes - very affordable and there is a large Hispanic demographic where I work but I was trying to support a black owned business and doing my small part in spreading the word about the cupcakes which, honestly are quite good, and whenever they have the carrot ice cream, that is just divine.

Read moreI contacted this place today to make a birthday cake for my son’s birthday. I was told over the phone that they could have a 6” custom round cake and have it ready for Saturday (within the 72hr window stated on their website). They told me to email them the example and someone would get back with me. I emailed right away which was around 12pm, I called back to ensure they received my email and called back again around 6pm since they closed at 7pm. Only to find out that they said they could not make it because it was a fondant design. I then emailed them (same day) a similar buttercream design. They then told they may not be able to meet my request. This time the reason was because I was outside the 72hr window. I called out the fact that I was told something different, as well as, what their website states. She told me that was for all other cakes and not custom cakes which is not stated on their website. She also told me that I could find another bakery to meet my request. I knew at that point they either could not do it or just did not want to do the cake.
I immediately called the Small Cakes and Kingwood, the nice lady took my order and payment over the phone. My order will be ready at 2pm on Saturday. It sucks because I live in the Humble area and would love to support small business in my community. However, this was the result. Very bad customer service and...
Read moreNormally I would give a 5 star as I love small cakes.. But i was getting cupcakes and Pupcakes.. This lady walks in being snooty cause I had my Pebbles which is a puppy, before she assumed she might have asked instead of making comments. She is a service dog for personal reasons.. The lady at the counter stated we do have a sign says no pets.... First of all was not an issue til this lady decided to be snooty.. I assume owner or Manager could have spoken to me instead of telling the other lady since she was trying to check me out and was on phone at same time. But i did let her know a service dog. I am on a diet purchasing for my employees.. I stopped going to Kingwood Smallcakes due to poor service, guess this 1 is now out.. Guess can look else where to get sweets.. And she did not even ask me if I was in reward program, did not get service I normally do. The young ladies working there were great.. Not recommending them anymore.. 2 stars only beacuse of the other girls working there..

I already found else where for a sweet tooth.. Since could not read full reply and was unable to reply...
