I visited this restaurant on two occasions with the first one being great on a Tuesday and the reason I returned a second time on that Saturday. The first experience started with me viewing the menu outside and the lady(whom I later find out was the manager) explaining the menu so I decided to dine in. The server was helpful, courteous, and prompt as well as the food was good. I ordered the teriyaki chicken plate with fried rice. It was served with a nontraditional kimchi (which I loved), steamed vegetables, and soup. I also ordered spring rolls which were not the best because they were fluffy instead of the crispiness I like. The chicken was fine and the fried rice was very flavorful with a nice buttery taste(exactly the way I like). When I returned the second time I ordered some chicken fried rice because the rice I had earlier in the week was very good. I paid $11.92 which is pricey to me but I thought if the rice is as good as the first time then it might be worth it. I received my order and no change. First problem it was quite presumptive of the restaurant to think I did not want my change. I asked why and was told by the manager they do not give change. At this point I explain to her I paid for my food and have an expectation to receive my change. She continued to rationalize why they do not give change but she could tell I was bothered by this so she relented and found the 8 cents I was due. I get home with the chicken fried rice and it is nothing like I tasted earlier in the week. The rice had a very sweet taste as well the chicken and rice did not have the freshest taste. I returned the food and explained the same to the manager. She said they use teriyaki sauce and that they had different cooks. I explained I had been there earlier in the week and the rice was perfect so that is why I returned. I explained I expect the dish to taste the same regardless of the cook because when you go to a restaurant you expect consistency in the taste. She offered to prepare me something else but instead I opted to get a refund. I had already made up my mind to never visit again after they thought my change was not due to me so it made no sense to get any...
Read moreSunny’s was the first place I stopped at after flying in from California. I told my husband I was craving sushi and we knew we liked Sunny’s because we tried the other location here in El Paso, this specific one just happened to be closer to our house.
Surprisingly it was pretty busy for being a Tuesday night. A good sign that they’re popular! My husband and I were seated right away and our waiter came to get our drink order pretty fast.
We both really like their Crab meat puffs so we ordered one order each. Honestly I’d say that’s my favorite item on their menu. I could do with just having those. They’re so delicious with just the right amount of cream cheese and crab filling.
For sushi I ordered the Golden California roll and my husband tried their Samurai roll. He said he liked his choice! I, on the other hand, will probably steer clear of the golden Cali roll from now on. They made the roll very wide and cut it at an angle so when I ate it I either got a bite of just the crab or the cucumber and avocado. It also fell apart very easily so it was pretty difficult to eat. I’ll probably just stay with fresh rolls if they cut all their deep fried sushi the same way, it’s just awkward to eat and you don’t get the full scope of fillings because it’s too big.
Service at this location is great though! Our waiter was very friendly and attentive to us during our visit.
I’ll still be back to try other sushi options and their delicious crab meat puffs! But I’d highly suggest staying away from the...
Read moreJust had a date night here and we were very excited to try it. While the server was kind and the manager as well, we did not have a good experience. Came in a d say at the bar, which was dirty in spots but no big, I had wipes I just cleaned it up. we specifically ordered a sushi roll first as our appetizer.
We placed our drink order about the same time as our food. When the drinks came, she let us know that a rush had come in a d we weren't too worried. Then they were waiting on miso soup as well, Ok no problem. Then we realize its been 45 minutes and we have not gotten out sushi or food. The family behind us that came in after us, with several children, received their food within minutes of us getting our food and our sushi roll never came.
My order was wrong but I didn't want to wait for the right one so we just accepted what it was and it wasnt bad! Unfortunately my husbands entire steak and shrimp plate was cold and we never got our sushi. The manager and server apologized for the confusion with my food, removed it and the sushi and gave us a discount which we appreciated but we just wanted to enjoy good food and it just didnt turn out to be a good experience for us.
Everything looked so good and again, everyone was nice but experience wise, it was very lacking. Maybe if you go early it might be ok and you may receive more...
