We really enjoyed this place and wish that I could give it a 5/5 but there are a few things my wife and I feel are stopping us. As many have mentioned, the customer service is superior here, above any other establishment. Friendly is an understatement and saying they desire to please would be selling them short.
That being said, my wife was disappointed that there is only a plain bun option. She is trying to eat healthier and there is not a wheat or gluten free option. (I'll take half the blame for choosing hot dogs for date night...but i know she enjoys hot dogs more than i do.) Aside from that, she was looking for a bit of more flavor from her bun to compliment her meat (something like a sesime seed bun on a Chicago dog). At the price point they are at, one would think there would at least be alternative bun options.
I enjoyed the freshly cooked bun and tried the Texan link with brisket and spicy sauce. It exceeded my expectation in flavor but while awesome in flavor it wasnt as fulfilling as I would have hoped. (I'm 6,2 and 190 lbs for what it's worth). With high expectations, I decided to do a chili cheese dog with chili cheese fries to fulfill my appetite but unfortunately did not really care for the taste of the turkey chili. Turkey chili is nice for those who want to be healthier hot dog eaters but beef chili would be better to have for those who want heartier hot dogs. Again, options are always helpful.
Lastly, I do not care for restaurants who do not sell entrees separate from the combos. $12 sound great for a freshly cooked combo, unless you aren't in the mood for fries and coke, which was my case tonight. I ordered chili cheese fries to give my fries a little more flavor. Oh and on that note, we originally got one basket of fries for both our hot dog combos but didn't realize it until we got home.
We certainly wish this business success and appreciate another family business in the neighborhood and already heard they are working with others to impact the community. We hope that they never lose their enthusiasm for what they do and will possibly try them again...
Read moreThese hot dogs are literally the best hot dogs I've ever had. Go eat one right now!
I don't think I've ever given anything five stars. And hotdogs no less.
I don't know where this place is, I have no idea how much the hot dogs cost or how lovely the people that run it are. I only know that my sister showed up with them the night before last and they were spectacularly good.
She brought in a couple of boxes with a few differently dressed dogs. We had four different hot dogs we cut them in half, or thirds, so we could all try each. We had a dog with mustard and kraut (the yankee way...well, almost, cuz there was no bacon on it! Cuz they DONT HAVE CHOPPED BACON!), one with chili cheese and Fritos, one with chopped brisket and spicy sauce and one with mustard chili and cheese. I'm usually a creature of habit but I would take any one of those right now. And I highly highly recommend just a brisket on a hot dog. Who would have thought? Sounds weird, right? Well it's not it's one of the best things you'll ever eat!
I've got to tell you, I do not like 'fat' hot dogs and typically I won't eat a hot dog like that but on occasion I'll cut one in half lengthwise. And I could have easily filleted each of these huge hot dogs into four individual hot dogs but I didn't...I just ate 'em giant. We all shovel them right on into our faces...hand over fist. No napkins. Lol! Yeah, I was hungry but they were also ridiculously delicious. Just playing stupid delicious.
And I also appreciate the quality of the hot dogs themselves. Great toppings and a good bun - or even a great bun - don't mean much if the hot dog itself is low quality and of questionable composite. Not a prob here. These babies are all good.
And let me just say one more time, they were really really crazy good! I cannot wait to eat here again! Maybe now!!!...wonder where the...
Read moreThe 3 star rating comes from the good & bad things I experienced in my visit here tonight. I’ll start w/ the negatives first. My mom walked in 5 min before me & my baby. When I walked in at 7pm I was greeted by a young lady w/ brown locs. Her energy was friendly but I didn’t care for the way she informed me that had I not told her I was going to sit w/ my mom who was already inside that she was going to have to turn me away b/c the kitchen closes at 7pm. I later found out she informed my mom that to go orders have to be placed online & if she placed it they wouldn’t make it b/c the kitchen is closing but she can still order since she made it right at 7pm although she walked in at 6:55pm. Not even most chain restaurants closes their kitchen a day whole hour before closing the establishment. W/ that logic, it’s best to close at 7:30pm. Her vibe was a 5/10 imo. The young man w/ locs energy was a 10/10 w/ every customer in the building which is why he was tipped on top of the included gratuity. The music was good & the place was clean. Kind of smelled like a nail shop though. Atmosphere 9/10. My parents ordered oxtail plates & a hot dog with brisket & I had the same dog without the onions. Our wait was about 35-40mins which is a little long for food that isn’t necessarily all prepared fresh on the spot. The oxtails weren’t tender enough, the gravy tasted rushed, floury, & lacked seasoning. It definitely could’ve been darker as well considering it was for oxtails, not smothered chops 4/10. The greens & Mac tasted as expected for your average soul food place 8/10. The onions on the dog definitely should’ve been chopped, not grilled 8/10 but the menu does say grilled & the brisket hot dog w/ sausage was bomb 10/10!!! I'd go back but at an earlier time to see if anything I stated above...
