It wasn’t just the distasteful experience we had when we picked up an order at curbside on Sept. 20 at the Outback in Thornton, CO, that has a group of us forever canceling our annual holiday and birthday gatherings there, it’s the arrogance of the manager who said he would make right our September experience by telling us he would mail out gift cards to cover the cost of the l two largely inedible meals. The gift cards never arrived. Clearly, the manager said what he thought I wanted to hear to get me off the phone. While this is not the first time the food quality has been below par at that location, the manager’s actions were the last straw. The medium-rare steak was horribly overcooked to the point it was inedible. Both salads had massive chunks of core from the head of iceberg lettuce that stood out against the brown-tinged lettuce. The baked potato was either from the day before or it had been left under the heat lamp far too long. Even the bread was difficult to chew and stomach. The only good thing about the meal was the baked potato soup that I ordered. Had we dined in the restaurant, we surely would have said something at the time. The fact that it was a take-home order likely led to the poorly cooked/preserved food being placed in the to-go boxes. The fact that the manager clearly had no intention of following through with resolving the September experience through gift cards not only soured the Outback chain’s credibility to the point that we personally won’t be going back, but more importantly, the group of friends who have for years patronized that specific Outback location at the Christmas and Easter holidays along with birthday celebrations has been impacted. We always show respect for the staff and tipped well. Even for the curbside pickup that day last fall, we could have lived with a poorly prepared meal. However, the fact that the manager of the restaurant had so little regard for customers or the well-meaning people who staff the restaurant by making a wrong right as he claimed he would spoke volumes about what could be expected at that restaurant in the future. There are plenty of restaurants willing and able to provide at least the minimal level of service for patrons where management respects the efforts of staff members that I would be glad to patronize. That one manager showed just how unwilling the Outback chain as a whole, most definitely the Thornton, CO, location, is willing to even try to make an effort to maintain customer satisfaction. This is the harshest restaurant review I have ever written, but it is definitely...
Read moreAlways Great food, Excellent Server, Wonderful atmosphere. One thing would have made it better, I'm 76 years old & it is very difficult for me to stand up straight or walk long distances. There were no handicap parking places available & we had to walk long way through an icy parking lot to get to the front door. We were greeted immediately & I asked Can we be seated in a booth as close as possible so I don't have to walk very far, because it's very painful for me to walk. She walked us past 5 empty & clean booths before she seated us. I thought well maybe they don't have a server working that station, but the next table that was seated was the in a one much closer to the entrance. It was a very young couple with several children.
My point is, because of my mobility issues, I would have liked the 1st booth available, instead of being walked the middle of the restaurant before being seated, I realizethat walking past 5 or 6 empty booths doesn't sound like a lot to someone that has never such severe back pain that causes mobility issues, but it's a lot of extreme pain for me & others like me.
I would think that if a person asks the hostess nicely, ,"Please, don't make me walk very far to a booth, because it's very difficult for me to walk."" Out of courtesy you give them the closest both You wouldn't make them walk past 5 or 6 empty booths to the middle of the restaurant then immediately afterword place obviously mobile people in the empty booths, where they were not allowed to sit. It made me feel like me request was completely insignificant & ignored.
When she 1st seated us, I almost asked why we had to walk so far & past all the empty booths before we were seated. I'm pretty sure, if I had done that she may have given us a closer table, because she did ask "is this ok". But, I had made the request for a closer table at the door & the request had been ignored. If I had been moved to a table we had just passed it meant more walking & I really needed to sit down. Sitting takes away some of the pain & the pressure off my spinal column, I really I couldn't walk any more.
Just a friendly tip to the restaurant manager. You have a Great Restaurant, however, your hostess is the person's 1st impression of your restaurant. When a customer first walks in the the door, if they are made to feel instruction & meaningless. They may stay but might not even stay, & if they do stay, they might not return to your restaurant. I know a couple of other people that if they had experience, they might report youf...
Read moreWent with my grandpa since we had some gift cards, and this place was really wonderful! We went in around 1:30pm, after the lunch rush, and it was practically empty, at first that worried me. Though, the greeter at the front door walked us to a close booth so my grandpa didn't need to walk far, and the waitress came right to the table shortly afterwards. They had a few mishaps happen that day so paying for our meal was a little complicated, but the service was still smooth and the waitress was really sweet and kind. We ordered the filet mignon 9oz rare, and the porterhouse also rare, with baked potatoes and asparagus, and 2 lobster tails. The steaks came out perfect! You can tell by my photo that the filet came out rare, it was warm inside the steak so it was definitely cooked to temperature. The asparagus was delicious, they serve large pieces, and it's soft and the whole stalk is edible. I will say about the lobster tails, they were a little salty, but that's to be expected, although you can request them without the seasoning on it, the waitress had asked. For appetizers we ordered the coconut shrimp, a half blooming onion deconstructed, and the seared ahi tuna. The coconut shrimp was unfortunately not my favorite, the breading didn't taste like coconut and it was a little soggy. The half blooming onion was so good though! The breading was not too thick or salty, and there was barely any oil in the plate from the fryer, they serve it with a horseradish sauce which was also delicious. The ahi tuna also came out well, rare in the center, and seared on the outside. Everything was so good, and delicious. The waitress was so kind! I would definitely go...
