My experience last year was perfect. I gave it 5 stars. My experience this last time was far from good. I will point out that the menu options were pretty good. The waiter was attentive and seemed to know the menu. Here are the problems we had: They don't offer a Ceasar Salad (no Caesar dressing, no parmesan cheese). I wanted a crab Caesar Salad. Just need Romaine, Dressing, croutons and cheese. I was asked if I wanted Cheddar Cheese instead of parmesan. No. I asked for Romaine and was given a handful of bagged lettuce mix (raddicio and carrots mixed in. Seriously? ) This was served in a cereal bowl and I was charged for a full entree. Not cool. They served it with Vinagrette. It was that or Ranch. Ordered appetizers and asked specifically that they be delivered prior to our meal. This part he did, he delivered it one minute prior to our meal. So while we were just starting our appetizers he delivered our meal, one of which was hot and getting colder by the minute. This is basic waiting skills to wait to have the entree show up hot after the appetizers are complete. Ordered some fish and chips. Fish was soggy and full of grease. You could take your fork and squish it nearly flat as oil oozed out. We pointed this out to the waiter the issue being that there was very little fish under the batter. The manager came over and apologized for the fish being undercooked (we have no idea where that came from). It was cooked but it was mostly a breaded pocket full of oil.
MGT: Please offer a real Caesar Salad. You are literally the only restaurant I know that doesn't offer one. Serve the appetizer before the meal with enough time to eat the appetizer without the entree sitting under a heat lamp. Serve fresh fish. We are the Northwest where fresh seafood is...
Read moreMy meal was about 2p on. Thursday. I had a cheeseburger, a bowl of chowder and a blended strawberry lemonade. The cheeseburger was delicious! It was ~3/4 in thick, no red and juicy. The Tillamook cheese was completely melted and dripping. All of the veggies on it were fresh and crispy. Not a large burger and not a slider. I substitutes onion rings for fries. It was $1.99 extra. Large amount of well cooked actual onions in the rings, not the ground up ones. I believe it was $17.49. I thought the price was OMG, insanely expensive. I can say the quality was excellent, but really? Chowder was the same as it always has been at Elmer's. This time it was quite thick though. Most likely had been warming for awhile. Still tasted great! Now, the star of the meal for me, was the blended strawberry lemonade! WOW! It was delicious! Idk how they made it, fresh or not but it was good! $4.49 for that. All their drinks including pop was that price. Rundown... The service was exceptional! They were all so, so very kind, efficient and just pleasant to be around. (I was going in to an interview directly after that, explained that to the cashier and asked her how I looked , food in teeth, spilled on myself, button gaping open, the usual. She was so kind. Gave me the once over helped with wardrobe malfunctions and wished me luck) THANK YOU! PS: I got the job! The food was very, very good! Nothing to complain about or suggest. It WAS quite spendy though. $35 with tip for one meal. If I was feeling rich that day, I would 100% go again! I only rated my experience a 4 star strictly based on the cost. Everything else, I couldn't have asked for...
Read moreMy lady and I stopped here, Elmer's, after attending an event in Portland. I hadn't been to a Elmer's in 30 years and thought that it was time for revisiting. Well, boy was I very disappointed and felt not happy about the experience. I ordered the Fish & Chips w/a cup of chowder. I've worked in restaurants and once owned a BBQ and I know food. When the chowder came you could tell that it wasn't well maintained and had been in the steam heater or soup warmer way to long. It was so thick that the soup spoon was able to stand straight up on its own as if stuck in paste. I sent it back needless to say. I was hoping that the fish & chips would be better however the fish was nothing special either. I come from San Francisco where fish & chips are good but having live on the Oregon coast where both Fish & Chips and Chowder are a Thing Elmer's was a major let down. The fish was overcooked to not golden but burnt brown and the fries were just out of the freezer nothing more. The coleslaw was standard with a serving size of a quarter cup if that. My lady ordered the Avocado Burger which she said wasn't to bad but the bacon on it had a flavor that she took it off the burger. I was curious about how it tasted because how can bacon be bad? Well, the flavor wasn't to our liking and I really think it was perhaps on the warming station to long and tainted the taste. The best part of our experience was our waitress. I give this place 1 star and I cannot recommend for anyone to eat here. Perhaps a different store/restaurant would be better but not the one on HWY 99...
