My wife and I visited for the first time after rave reviews from a friend and seeing great google reviews. Parking was nice and easy, building looks very nice, both inside and out. I ordered the twin fins which gives you the choice of two meats, two sides and two pieces of corn bread. I chose brisket and burnt ends with bbq beans, mac & cheese and the two pieces of cornbread for $23.99. My wife got the brisket platter with a side salad and bbq beans with corn bread for $19. Our total after taxes was $46 with no drink, which was expensive, but if the food was great, I wouldn’t mind it so much. Sadly, we didn’t really like anything. The brisket was tough and it had a lot of fat on it, even though I ordered lean. The burnt ends were mostly fat as well. The beans were very thick and pasty and the mac & cheese tasted like it was from a can. The cornbread was too much like a piece of cake. It was extremely sweet, soft and sticky, almost gummy. Not at all like southern cornbread. I watched the video on their website and realize that they want to create their own “genre” of bbq called “coastal bbq” but what does that really mean? Good bbq has already been created, if done right, it is good already. This new “genre” is not good, not at all.
I watched the 9 minute video on their website and have some comments, questions and concerns. Brad and Shelly Russell met with a Titusville High School administrator and Shelly noticed “a lot of need and a lot of lack”. I really want to follow your journey so, first, what was the meeting for? What need did you see and what was the lack? I realize that you probably didn’t want this video to be too long but you didn’t explain what the “need” and “lack” were, you just said you wanted to do something about it. Please reveal how opening a bbq restaurant would help those needs/lack you discovered at THS?
You guys also asked yourself the question while in the parking lot, “I wonder if God would give us the resource to meet needs like this….maybe starting the business would exist to benefit and meet needs”. Again, totally silent about the specific needs, as well as no mention on how the restaurant is used to help with those “needs”. You also wanted to see if others would like to invest in the vision to impact our community. Isn’t that what you are doing, or at least, supposed to be doing as a Pastor? You might say, well, I want to have the bbq as an outreach for the unchurched. If so, how is this being done? I went there, no employee appeared any different, nobody reached out to me personally, and nobody discounted my meal. There was nothing done that would speak to me of it being any sort of outreach to the community (me).
You guys prayed about the vision being a distraction to the ministry at the grove and came to the conclusion that it would not be a distraction but an extension. You are absolutely 100% incorrect. There is no pastor in this world that couldn’t use more time to devote to their flock and to the studying of God’s word. Once you add anything more to that plate, it is a distraction.
When you spoke about this restaurant being an extension of your dining room table so that you can extend that same hospitality, I wondered if you charge people when they come to your table at your house. Opening a restaurant where people pay a lot of money for food that’s not that good is not hospitable. If I recall correctly, when I went to BBRads, I paid a pretty hefty fee for mediocre food.
You said that your heart is to see 100’s of people a day come in and experience hospitality, experience community, experience an atmosphere that is so positive and welcoming. That’s all good but when is this experience going to start? When I went, I felt like it was just an ordinary restaurant.
You said that “actually gives us access to so many more people and so many more opportunities that we don’t even have in the church”. Again, how are you doing this by opening a...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at BB Rad's Coastal BBQ, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. From the delicious food to the friendly staff and vibrant ambiance, this restaurant truly deserves a perfect rating. I highly recommend BB Rad's to anyone in search of a delightful dining experience.
I started my culinary adventure with the pulled pork, and I was instantly blown away by its rich, tender, and smoky flavor. The meat was perfectly cooked, and each bite was a melt-in-your-mouth sensation. Accompanying the pulled pork, I indulged in the sweet potato casserole and corn casserole. Both sides were bursting with delightful flavors that perfectly complemented the main dish. The combination of the dishes created a harmonious symphony of taste that left me craving for more.
What truly stood out at BB Rad's was the exceptional service provided by the staff. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. The team went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was nothing short of extraordinary. Their attentiveness and friendliness added a personal touch, making me feel like a valued guest.
The skater/surfer decor at BB Rad's is a refreshing departure from traditional barbecue joints. The vibrant and laid-back ambiance creates a relaxed atmosphere, perfectly reflecting the coastal vibes. The walls adorned with skateboards and surfboard memorabilia add a unique charm, enhancing the overall dining experience. It's a place where you can unwind, enjoy great food, and soak in the energetic atmosphere.
One aspect that impressed me was the reasonable prices at BB Rad's. Considering the generous portion sizes and the outstanding quality of the food, the affordability was commendable. It's refreshing to find a restaurant that offers such high-quality cuisine without breaking the bank. BB Rad's certainly delivers on value for money.
In conclusion, BB Rad's Coastal BBQ is a culinary gem that I wholeheartedly recommend. With its mouthwatering pulled pork, delectable sides, and friendly staff, this establishment is a must-visit for barbecue enthusiasts and food lovers alike. Read moreThe bbqfam here is Rad to the core. More bbq places should feel like this- clean, happy & w/o disappointments.
The true "cherry" on top is the unexpected surprise of dole whip ! Kids love that we can get it outside of Disney now. I tink it should seriously be a spirtzer w/ sprite &dark black cherries.. it's seriously best dessert option for hot fLa days.
Their cornbread is ridiculously delicious cuz it's so fluffy& u can taste the jalapeño. The green beans were actually better than any other bbj joint cuz they still had a bite & were seasoned perfectly. Both corn& sweet tater casserole were on point. Fried okra is was prob best we had anywhere due to the light breading& perfect frying temp, nOt oily- just crisp.
Only wish is they had some SMOKED GREENS, ya know *wink wink Please consider adding greens, like turnip greens or traditional collards, but with smokiness of meats, please? =) Or smoked spaghetti squash? Some smoked veggies would set this place apart, even more than the high standards they're setting already!
Ribs are perfectly smoked & meat bites just right. Burnt ends are 🔥 ! & for once, not dry turkey YAY lol
Met the owner Brad & he was radiating w/ kindness& joy. It was a beautiful chance that we happened to be this way & it was finally their grand opening ! Made for great leftovers for the bacon/beer bash later that day & morning brunch for Fathers day. Brisket & ribs were crazy good w/my ez griddled corn cakes when all the sides got eaten, btw.
Brad was open to having a loyalty cup incentive in the future for the dole whip so hopefully it's a true possibility
