Awful! I REALLY was hoping this was going to be an enjoyable experience. I was so looking forward to a Trattoria / Osteria style Italian restaurant in Toledo. I was hoping for something like Casa De Maria...sadly gone for years now. This was not to be the case.
First off the atmosphere was much the same as the short lived Brazilian restaurant that used to occupy this space...Sabor I believe it was. The restaurant was VERY clean though..as well it should be just 10 days after a grand opening, however the bathroom doors both had signs stating beware of slippery floors....not due to being wet, but due to the material used.
Our waitress was polite, kind, and had a nice smile, sadly every question I asked she had to run and ask someone. Do you have any sparkling water such as Pelligrino? Off to the bar to inquire. Having traveled in Italy from Palermo in Sicily to Amalifi, to Florence, etc...there was always a bottle on the table. Sadly not here.
I inquired to how many sausages were included in the Italian Sausage dinner...off to the kitchen to inquire. Two I was told. What was the house red? Off to the bar to inquire.
The house salad was this tiny thing served in a plastic bowl made to look like wood. Greens were good, what there were of them vinaigrette was decent. I wanted separate EVOO and vinegar...no luck.
Next came the bread, truly ASTONISHING how bad this was. I swear I have had better bread on a sub bun from a gas station sub. How can you screw up bred in an Italian restaurant...ESPECIALLY when you have a pizza oven? Our bread was actually cool as if it had been in the fridge. The butter came in tiny little plastic tubs I had to peel off the plastic from. I would not insult my birds with this. BTW the bread was served almost half way through our meal after we asked for it...was part of our meal.
For the real insult though was my main course my Italian Sausage with side of pasta. The sausage was in patty form....WTF? I am not at Bob Evanss having breakfast...though oddly enough Google thought I was as Bob Evans is so close by. NEVER have I seen such a thing. To make matters worse, it was TOOOOO salty and had a lot of heat which is not typical...where was the fennel? Presentation looked like it was done by a child.
Last...thank God, but not least...the pasta. I ordered meat sauce, but when it came it looked like Ragu from a jar. The sauce was loaded with sugar, and as far as I could tell had no meat, but when I asked the waitress told me that it was meat sauce, but the meat was very fine????? The pasta was not al dente, but al gummy.
That dinner was $13.50. Some advice...don't open until your staff are trained, and hire a real chef...not someone who opens jar and packages from Gorton's...
Read moreI have been in Toledo for 2 years now and when I wake up I always wonder to myself what do you have in store for us today Toledo? Does anything remain the same that one can count on for quality? During this time frame I saw the historic pancake house close and the demolition of the former Elder-Beerman's department store. I have been in Franklin Park Mall a dozen times including the day after Christmas when there was a shooting this past holiday season. For five months I had to go miles out of my way on Friday nights heading to Epworth Church due to road construction that closed only three blocks during that entire time. This past Wednesday it was 67° at 10:00 a.m. only to become 28° at 10:00 p.m. . A high end steakhouse down the street was granted 22 health code violations. Outback steakhouses are closing left and right. Bed bath & beyond took their logo literally and they went way beyond landing in the lap of bankruptcy. Ohio State lost to Michigan. Wildfires from a northern foreign country changed our horizons making our entire city look like a smoke stack last summer. The stage queens at Hamburger Mary's had to relocate across the river. Secor Road at Toledo University was closed more than it was open and nobody questioned why. There is the change of pronouns being debated more than Roe versus Wade. What does this have to do with a restaurant review? Everything! This is the city in which we live and we are constantly adapting and adjusting, so isn't it nice to know there is one place you can go where you don't even have to second guess what the experience will be? You know before you get there you will have an exceptional dining experience. And that is fabulous Incorvaia's. I have patronized your hospitality 35 to 40 times in the last 2 years. They hit it out of the ballpark every time. The food is consistently excellent. The service is consistently cheerful. The ambiance is consistently welcoming while the timing by the kitchen staff delivers right on time every time. I don't know if this establishment realizes that they are providing much more than outstanding pasta. I thank them for being reliable. And for always being there in a world where there's way too much uncertainty. And finally shout outs to Logan, Garrett, TJ, Marissa, Taylor and Quinn. As Billy Joel sings...."Don't Go...
Read moreHorrible first experience and wish i took a picture. I ordered 1 large Cheese and 1 large Pep and a children spaghetti . I asked for a "little" extra sauce on the pep pizza. Now, i cannot put in words how much sauce they put on the pizza. It was hands down done on purpose and it was an obnoxious amount. Believe me, i would not waste time to get on here and type this. It was a hysterical amount as if your best friend was pranking you.
This was not even the worst part. So i walked in and spoke to a lady at the bar. "Hello, i'm here for a pickup". She checks me in and all and i stated, "glad that you are open! I've been looking forward to it. Question, are you related to Inky's". She GLARED at me and said and a very rude tone "we are not affiliated with them". Immediately after she walked off. I was blown away by how she just spoke to me. Come to find out from hearing her in the background, she is the owners daughter! and their family was sitting at the other end of the bar. Very rude of her to answer a polite customer's question. A simple, "we get that a lot but no we are not affiliated." would have been appropriate. I then waited 25 more minutes for my food which was not worth the wait. Inky's has better cheese and sauce hands down. Incorv sauce is like a paste - very thick. Crust is almost exactly the same.
I have eaten at Inky's for 30 years and will...
