I want to preface this with we went here for my son's 9th birthday (just family) because of the Arcade games (Toledo). Reset Arcade's website states the following: "Reset is an adult arcade with over 30 free play classic arcade games and over 30 beers on tap!" When I read '30 free play classic arcade games' I assumed the arcade games were free to play (assuming you bought food).
Well I was wrong. Each game takes either single dollar bills or quarters. We went when they just opened at 11:30 so we were the only ones over in the Arcade side and was hard to sometimes find somebody but I understand that. The bill to coin exchange machine was out of order so that was fun. If you count the 2 dart games as "classic arcade games" then Reset has a total of 25 PAY to PLAY games to pick from.
If their website stated the games were not free I wouldn't have been as upset as I was when we arrived and found out I had to pay for each game.
My wife's sandwich was very cold (it was a melt type sandwich, cheese, bacon, etc). But other than that the food was yummy.
I would highly suggest changing your ticketing system too because ordering a Old Fashion with Knob Creek was $14.50 which in an of itself was expensive but on the itemized receipt it stated Old Fashion $2.00 Knob Creek $12.50 Which if you know the prices of whiskey that is outrageous. If the Old Fashion was $10.00 and the Knob Creek was $4.50 that would have been 'better' but still pricey for what it was.
To wrap up, the food and 'atmosphere' was fine but lying on the website to get you to come in is shameful. When we asked the waitress and pointed this out she wasn't 100% sure either so asked and come back to tell us that it was "free" to play any game meaning there wasn't a 'fee' to allow you to play. So Reset Arcade doesn't charge you a cover fee to enter the arcade but you still have to pay to play the "30 free play classic...
Read moreDecent enough idea, but the execution is pretty lacking.
First off, the music is too loud—especially considering this isn't a place where people come to dance (nor is it a place where they could dance even if they wanted to, due to the congested layout). So the result is everyone shouting and leaning in mouth-to-ear, straining to hear each other, and doing that thing where you didn't hear a word the person said so you just nod and say something generic, hoping that was the appropriate reaction.
On top of that, the already-too-loud music is random cranked up for various intervals, to the point where the majority of patrons literally put their hands over their ears. It's pretty comical to see, since this is real life and not a cartoon, but it also indicates that whoever is managing Reset doesn't really understand why anyone would come to Reset in the first place.
The retro arcade games are a novel idea, and fun for the most part. Most of them are free, but 2-3 aren't, which is kind of confusing at first and makes you wonder why they aren't all free or all paid. It creates a weird sort of complication to what should be a straightforward concept, and when you're drinking it's an even weirder complication.
On the plus side, the beer selection is pretty decent.
All-in-all I'd say Reset is worth checking out once, but after that, unless they've changed things up since this review, you probably won't be itching...
Read moreI think it's a great concept, but could use some improvements. First, the music is way too loud in there. You should be able to hear the sounds of the games and be able to socialize in there instead of having to scream to be heard. It should feel and sound like an arcade, not a dance club. The bar is connected to bar 145 and if they want to make it a loud dance club on that side that's fine, but it should be just as loud on the arcade side, there is no escaping the music. There are tons of tables in there, which I assume would be for socializing? Finally, there are multiple machines that are not working properly. For being a new bar, it seems crazy for that many machines to be broken. There are many cool games in there, its a shame that some of...
