Been wanting to try this place for a while. Not a huge fan of Tex-Mex, as it is usually the slightly bland basics of traditional Mexican food, covered in cheese. So I finally stopped in after work. Inside, it is everything you want to see in a taqueria. A flat top griddle, a cold holding station full of salsas, creams and Mexican cheeses like queso fresco, a couple of coolers filled with Coca Cola and topo chico, and 3 lovely Senoritas in the kitchen. The smells were enough to make you drool and the menu is straightforward and to the point. After looking over the menu and since it was my first time here, I decided to try the barbacoa plate, with 3 corn tortillas, to go. The ladies behind the counter were very kind. When I got to my car, it was instantly filled with the aroma of home made Mexican food. This plate has 2 fried eggs and potatoes, beans, barboca and 3 corn tortillas. First off, everything looked and tasted super fresh. There was so much flavor in everything. The barbacoa was flavorful, moist with slightly crispy edges, the eggs were cooked beautifully with a runny center. Potatoes were cooked very well. They were soft with a lot of flavor and what I believe was pico d gallo. The corn tortillas were definitely home made and I would go far as say, the best corn tortillas I have ever had. The plate was a good amount of food for only $11.99. It is definitely a great deal and not only would I have paid more, I will definitely go there again. This...
Read moreI came here because they had machetes on the menu. You just don't see that very often.
The place was very busy with lots of people coming in and out. It's a small place so there's not a lot of seating inside other than about 10 tables.
I just have to say that the machete was under-seasoned. we went with the pollo it just needed a little more seasoning. I've got the salsas they serve with it were also lacking salt. Also, try to bacon breakfast taco because the bacon looked crispy. My main thought is that they must've been out of salt the day I came because somebody doesn't know how to use a salt shaker around here. Just my opinion. They seem to have lots of business and people seem to like the place.
I'm just looking for a place that serves a really good machete. I did not...
Read moreTrying another local joint. This little hole in the wall is definitely closer to back home(956 RGV/MX border). It has a small menu and a handful of tables to sit at but totally worth it. The flavor on their meat is top notch and the street tacos are filled to the brim. We ate, sang along to the tejano music, drank Mexican Cokes and watched the older lady behind the counter make tortillas from scratch. Very friendly staff, clean, and the salsa is actually spicy(that's a first so far up here). We will...
