Sorry so long, But as much as I was disappointed with everything, I really hope that this family can use criticisms as motivation to better the restaurant, or I very much could see this place closing soon.

What I ordered, fried catfish w/ mac n cheese and wings w/ fries. Comes with disappointing bread $42 order.

Portions- very small amount of fries and mac & cheese, Large chicken wings, Average catfish size. 1/2 piece of regular white bread with maybe a spot of butter on it, soggy. Not toasted. Just grabbed a piece of bread cut it in half n threw it in box.

Seasoning- Fries were flavored horribly! No flavor on chicken, over powering seasoning on catfish, and no flavor at all for mac & cheese.

Texture- The fried chicken and cat fish is not crispy at all, it’s fried but soggy like it was fried and then putting in togo container that was shut for 20 minutes or more. Fries also very soggy. The mac and cheese was stiff like it was set in container day before. From time it was handed to me to when I was at home sitting at my table was less than 4min. (I live close)

Wait time- 40minutes. Not busy at all. Told time for food to be done was 15min.(kids behind counter so I just assumed they not sure) I waited til 30min later (I’m patient) and kitchen said 4min. It was 11 minutes later when the food was ready.

Price- $42 for total order, way over priced I could see a total being maybe $30 tops.

Customer service- umm I don’t really know what to say on this as there’s 2 children (maybe 13years old, probly younger) behind the counter so my expectations are significantly lowered because they are kids. But there’s not really any type of customer service, no welcoming or thank you for coming, just order taken and that’s it.

Cleanliness- floors very sticky, table tops were sticky/dirty as well. It smells weird inside, stinky like musk inside, bathrooms were clean and supplies stocked!

This place was hyped up and I have been SO excited to try and was super disappointed today. Idk why I expected side of bread to be something more maybe like Texas toast but it is literally a 1/2 cut piece of white cheap bread n a spot of butter or something on it. Not toasted or anything just soggy feeling plain bread.

I hope that this family can save this as Topeka needs more family owned places, but honestly it needs complete redo on the food. Potentially more staff.

Recommendations- fry food til it’s crispy crispy, add creole to the mac and cheese I promise you it will make all the difference! Extra on the cheese. If you could use three cheeses, that would be amazing and I would recommend making the mac & cheese and having it sit in a crockpot on low because it will keep it loose cheesy and not thick. Do Texas toast instead of plain white bread. Offer sauces for chicken, It might just be me, but I would label that as almost fried chicken, not chicken wings as I associate chicken wings with Buffalo Wild Wings. With buffalo or bbq etc sauce. I’m so sorry for my review I feel horrible to leave this but this is honesty and as much as it may suck and hurt to read this. It sucked for me to pay $42 on food I could hardly take more than...

I woke this morning and said I want some Cracker Barrel. So I'm off all day i said let's go to Topeka to have breakfast and I can try bbq restaurant i saw on Facebook. So off we to breakfast and drove around until we thought they was open. We arrived the lady at the register must have thought I been there and she finally said how can I help you. I told it was my first dinning what do you have with ribs n rib tips. She recommended the new sampler platter, I said sure I paid and sat around until I told my lady let's walk and grab a beer n margarita from the Mexican restaurant. I returned to check on our it wasn't ready problem. While I see a little boy with dreads sitting at the bar putting his foot on this lady , the lady kept saying don't put foot on me he did maybe 3 times she pushing his foot. The game changer he turned and Spit on the lady. The lady at the register and the guy stocking the refrigerator im finna call grandma. He looked like so what. They told to say sorry I didn't hear him fact or the call grandma and all the adults relatives there. What ashame now I know she's going to tell everyone about her experience there. Especially when the food was absolutely the worst BBQ I've ever had. Everything tasted like liter fluid, the chicken tips especially the chicken tips wasn't cooked all the way. The ribs and ribs needed to stay on the smoker longer they wasn't tender, and the sweet rub on ribs was awful. The pulled pork no flavor or seasoning. The shredded beef aka Burnt ends that's all I can. Last but not least the Mac n cheese was so dry. It was a great day off beautiful drive from Overland Park to visit. This best thing about my food experience was those 2 Modelos and Margaritas. Black folks please run business like a business and not like Kinder Care Day care. Absolutely the worst thing I ever saw a lil boy spit on an adult. Either you train them if not when they get...

Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan yet. The restaurant was not very clean. the floor looked like it had been recently painted and was extremely tacky to walk on. Tables dirty, bathrooms dirty. Only plastic wear available for sit down, very flimsy.. At 530pm, they were already out of wings and baked beans. So maybe those are the top items there. We ordered ribs, hot links, and pulled pork dinners. Sides were okra, fries, coleslaw, dirty rice, and the corn. Ribs and the okra were the high points of the meal. they both had good flavor, but the house bbq sauce was horrible. Pulled pork was pretty good, but again, the sauce did not pair well flavor wise. The hot link was very bland and mushy. Coleslaw was in a tiny to go cup and was room temp. Probably 80 to 85 degrees inside as the AC was struggling. Dirty rice was ok but very mushy/over cooked. The corn side was terrible in taste texture and visual. The children behind the counter running the register were also serving the tables. Im guessing family business. All for that! They are learning, im sure, and were nice. I did leave them a tip. Hopefully there are some improvements coming. Unsure how long its...

J Rocks smoke house offers a laid-back, casual barbecue experience with live music and hearty portions. I stopped in for dinner and ordered the rib tips with okra and fries. The food was solid—rib tips were flavorful and tender with a nice smoky char, and the sides were hot and satisfying. The okra was especially good—crispy and well-seasoned. Live music was a fun touch. The atmosphere overall was decent; that worked well for a relaxed BBQ joint. It’s the kind of place where you come for a filling meal and a chill night out. If you’re in the Topeka area and craving BBQ with a bit of entertainment, J Rocks is worth checking out. Solid food, generous portions, and a local vibe make it a good spot for a casual dinner.

On the night that I went, the restaurant was sold out of everything! I got the last two plates of catfish, and I'm so happy that I lucked out! The portions of fish were huge and my two sides were green beans and fried okra. Everything was amazing! From the hospitality of the hostess to the food and the atmosphere... it was all five star. I am including a picture of my catfish combo with fried okra. You need to get yourself to J Rocks and get some of this amazing food! I'm definitely going back for some barbecue.
